I mentioned in a previous post that I’m stranded outside my NHL Playoff comfort zone thanks to being sent to a conference for work. Last night I watched the Devils “game” (if the players don’t really play, can you really call it a game?) with Kate the Great and her two friends, who happen to be Capitals fans. If you ever find yourself in a similar bind, here’s a tip for maintaining your sanity:

Don’t complain about Marty Brodeur to Capitals fans.

Turns out they don’t appreciate it. Who knew! Instead of throwing heavy objects at the TV and shouting, “Someone bench him, please!”, remind yourself many teams would love to have a future-Hall-of-Famer who’s arguably the best goalie of all time. Even if you know he’s not giving his skaters the chance to win the game that could be the turning point in the series, remember that their goalie tandem is notable for a) being the tallest pair of backstoppers in the league and b) never giving their skaters a chance to win a single game. If you feel the urge to sarcastically cheer the easy stops he miraculously manages to make, instead focus on happy thoughts like… um… gosh, after last night’s game I’m not sure I’m capable of thinking happy thoughts right now. Ask me again about this in, oh say, July?
