Tonight we’re undertaking a terrible, odious task — we’re trying to like the Senators. Even just a tiny bit. We owe it to Sherry, who we like a lot, SenatorsLove aside. The first step for us was splitting a bottle of wine. The second step was warming our hearts with the glow of our favorite movie, which we watched while eating dinner before the game (because really, who doesn’t eat at their couch in front of the TV this time of year?). The third step? Sigh. We guess it’s actually sucking it up and trying not to hate so much; as Schnookie said over lunch the other day, “There’s only so much hate I can have for hockey.”
VS is making this hard for us. The pre-game was entirely Sabres-centric. Based on what we’ve seen, we can confidently say that Lindy Ruff is not one of IPB’s dedicated Gentle Readers — there was no mention of Derek Roy being benched in favor of Drew Stafford. Hmph.
FIRST PERIOD
19:31 Oh dear. The Sabres get the first power play of the game, Mezsaros for a phantom hook on Hecht. We’d be troubled, but in our new Sen-friendly approach, we’ll instead be happy the Sabres are going on their sucky-assed power play!
18:51 We hated, hated, hated what Lindy Ruff was wearing in the last game (kind of pink-tinted silvery-gray tie that was askew all evening with a gray shirt), but tonight he is sharply accoutered in Senator blue-and-yellow. And close-ups show the gold in his tie is the same color as the gold foil used to wrap cheap chocolates, so not only does he look snappy, but he also makes us hungry.
