IPB would like to start off tonight’s game diary with warmest Mothers’ Day wishes to all our Gentle Readers, be they mothers or celebrators of mothers. Neither of us has been so unfortunate as to end up with children of our own yet, so we got to spend today attempting to make up to Boomer for all those awful years of having to deal with us. So we took her out for ice cream and gave her a PSP. She considered the day a rousing success. Boomer rocks, and we’re lucky to have her.
So turning our attention to the game… VS seems to be trying to raise the stakes every night of this series with a newer, more ugly pre-game player interview that makes us reconsider our fondness for HD. Game 1 it was Chris Pronger, tonight it’s Tomas Holmstrom. Thanks, VS.
Eddie and Doc inform us grimly that Anaheim will be without the services of Kunitz; as somber as they try to sound, they can’t fool me — they want Detroit to win. (Hey, we’re Devils fans. We always assume a media bias against the team of our choice. And the lesser of two evils in this series is the Ducks. What can we say?)
In the in-studio segment pre-game Engblom’s hair has taken on startling new proportions. It looks like it’s going to start spinning around on the top of his head before flying back to its home planet.
19:37 That didn’t take long. On Detroit’s first offensive rush Marchant trips Datsyuk on the blue line.
