Well, Gary Bettman has proved that he doesn’t read us, because he’s settled on this awful M-W-F (Edit: It has been brought to my attention that that’s my wishful thinking talking there. Stupid M-W-Saturday schedule…) Stanley Cup Final schedule, which means a possible two Wednesday night games. Jerk. At any rate, despite Game 2 being on tonight, Pookie’s still working late, so we’ll be starting into our game diary this evening on a 2-hour TiVo delay. Plan accordingly, Gentle Reader!

Please write the mystery/suspense/hockey novels and be sure to include regular torture and misfortune to Bettman in them – they’ll sell like hot cakes! (Wait, wait, icing does not like hot cakes, they make icing melt, no no no – cool cakes only).

I love the irony when east coast residents complain that a west coast game is starting too early. I’ll try to remember that as I skip out of work at 2 pm today to make that awesome drive down to Anaheim.

In a somewhat related dilemma, I just found out that my company would like me to travel to Chicago next week for a convention I consider to be wholly unnecessary (and they had already told me for a few weeks I didn’t need to attend). Brainstorming help: what’s a good way to get out of this trip? I’ve already told them that “it doesn’t look good” and “you should have told me before I made plans”, but what’s my best play?

Explain that I have already thrown down good money for tickets to G5 (which would be a blatant lie, but nobody would catch me on it)? Or something more creative?

Oh, we’ll be there, just two hours delayed — everyone who wants concurrent updates will just have to set their own TiVos to synch with ours! (And I can’t imagine a fate worse than not having our brilliant commentary to go along with the game. That would be terrible!)

As for getting out of the conference… hm. I’m probably not qualified to answer that, considering my social skills and office etiquette are marginal at best. I’d probably just blurt to my boss, “You can take your conference and shove it!” then burst into tears. Not only would I get out of going to this particular conference, but I’d never be expected to go to any in the future, either. Actually, now that I think about it, that might be the best way to go…

2 hour delay huh? Well luckily tonight is a rousing game of street hockey and our tivo is already set, we will be ready to go with you!

By the way …. for any of you that have children (or relatives) there is an amazing book “The Magic Hockey Stick”. *can find it on amazon, B&N, etc* Even better it’s character is a girl that plays hockey! Great for probably the 7 and under set!

Earl, just after we started IPB I got sent to a conference that conflicted with the first round. It was terrible. I say tell them you already have plans. I mean, you do — even if you’re not going to the game, you’ll still be watching it. Right?

Well, I just sent the e-mail explaining why I can’t go. I don’t know why I spent so much time apologizing, as it was management’s negligence to wait until today to tell me that I was going (after weeks of telling me that I wasn’t), but if apologies buy me any leeway, I can give ‘em all day.

On opening day last season I told my boss that my wife locked her keys in her car all the way across town and that I had to leave to go bring her a key.

I wasn’t even going to a game, I just wanted to be at home to watch the opening faceoff live. It’s a sickness.

I am beginning to think that she thinks she has something to show off but from what I can see it’s only if her, uhmmmm…, bosom starts about two thirds of the way down her torso… ^_~

Niekon, I feel so bad now that we didn’t snark on Chris’s outfit last night. I was so distracted during the one interview we watched, because it was with Getzi. And Getzi’s awful brown teeth. *Shudder*
