After a delightful night of socializing in a non-hockey setting, we’re ready to fire up the TiVo and check out the most anticipated game of the week, Sharks-Sabres. What’s that? This wasn’t the most anticipated game of the week for the entire league? Well, whatever. If you live in IPB’s comment threads the way we do, then this is what it’s all about.
We ended up TiVoing the Sharks feed, which means a delightful evening with Randy and Drew. They lead us in with some chit chat about how Joe Thornton’s kind of a pretty good hockey player, and then we get an interview with Mike Grier, who doesn’t look spectacularly overwhelmed with playing in his 800th game, nor with the prospect of playing the Sabres. Drew and Randy then give their viewers some thoughts on the Sabres, including the statement that choosing Crunchy over Biron was the right thing for Darcy to have done. Schnookie: “Damn straight!”
We are then informed that the energy in the building is high, as “there are a lot of Western New York fans who have relocated to the bay area.” That was definitely a shoutout — hi, andrew!
FIRST PERIOD
18:56 Max gets in around the D and rips a tricky shot that Nabokov handles well, thereby giving the Sabres more good scoring chances in this game than they had in the entirety of the Ducks and Kings games.
