There will be no game diary this evening, Gentle Reader. Try to contain your disappointment. Please, all that clothes rending and hair pulling is unbecoming! Instead, enjoy this open thread! Here’s hoping for better results than last night, eh?

Okay, the chorus at IPB Manor after watching the pregame is that Sutter is right — the guys need to put their heads to the grindstone. Heh. We are FULLY in support of that.
Jim Fox said on my feed that Peter Harrold is DRIVING from our minor league affiliate. haha DRIVING!!
Hey, we used to joke, back when San Jose was the perennial last-place team, that when we hated a player we wanted him traded so badly we’d drive him to San Jose ourselves. So it always cracks me up when players have to drive places. :D
haha, apparently he’s in the building now but not out there yet. Cracks me up.
Wooooo!!! That Clarkson toe drag is a thing of beeeeaaauty! (Sorry, CKim.)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just in the midst of saying, “I’m calling 5-1 LA, with our one goal coming late in the game from either Brylin or Asham.” Pause. Pookie: “Or Clarkson.” WOW!
Sorry, CKim. :D
AHHHHHHH!!!!!
Stuart might be back on my shit lisssssssssssst.
Boyle’s out there!! haha
Stuart might be back on my shit lisssssssssssst.
The Clarkson toe drag is not something to be ashamed of failing in the face of. :P
I’ll admit it, it was nice.
I hate Cox Digital Cable…It sucks. I wasn’t home and it was recording the game but it decided to quit and stop recording. So I missed the goal. And then I have to leave in an hour to go to my game. :(
KG, maybe your not recording was lucky? Maybe Clarkson feels shy and intimidated around you? (I’m sorry you missed it, and that you have to leave in an hour!)
Thanks for the laugh Schnookie. I needed it. Nothing seems to be going right today for me.
Maybe when I leave again Clarkson will just turn into a huge star. :) Or Zach will do something well for once.
Zach’s been playing OK, I think, so far. I mean, even without my Zach goggles I think he’s had some jump. He feels bad that he’s let you down, KG.
It’s kinda hard to semi live-blog, watch the game, and be here. haha
Hello, IPB!
A belated WOOOOOOOOO!!! for Clarkson!
It’s kinda hard to semi live-blog, watch the game, and be here. haha
I have massive admiration for anyone who can live-blog and do anything else. When I diarize I can’t even eat dinner, let alone comment on blogs (let alone blogs that aren’t my own! :P). I’m very impressed!
KG, I’m sorry you’re having a crappy day. I would not be surprised if we saw Zach winking at the camera and waving at you, though.
Zach should feel bad for letting everyone down not just me. Hopefully last night was just a little push towards the right direction for him hopefully. And he wasn’t even that pretty looking during his interview last night.
And good god that was way too close of a Kings goal for me to handle.
A belated WOOOOOOOOO!!! for Clarkson!
Hey Frisby! I’m actually thinking that in the likely event of a Devils loss tonight that these losers don’t deserve me immolating myself on a soldering iron. :P
Hey Frisby!
I agree, Schnookie. These guys aren’t worth soldering irons right now.
CKim, good luck with the diary!
Ha I wish Schnookie. That would make all the crap seem so unimportant.
Quick question since I missed most of the first period, has Zach, Gio and Elias been playing together since the beginning of the period?
Thanks! But I’ll probably be delayed in anything I type. haha But check for my post after the game ends.
Will do, CKim! Looking forward to it!
KG, yup. Sutter’s been sticking with these lines from the get-go.
You guys are definitely looking feisty.
Hmm I hope that means Sutter has faith that Zach, Gio and Elias will do something.
Me too, KG, me too. More than that, I hope it means that Zach, Gio and Elias will do something! :)
I agree, ookies. I didn’t bother with soldering irons or anvils last night either.
Ha yeah I hope so. Did any one see how high Zach jumped in that little clip of the US Junior team?
Youthful Zach had a lot of jump in his little legs.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at Gio and Patty trying to pretend like they don’t suck. Isn’t it cute?
I didn’t bother with soldering irons or anvils last night either.
Yeah, last night was a foregone conclusion.
Speaking of that Junior Team, I was looking through some magazine articles I have saved from a while ago and I found an article on the winning team and I just started cracking up when I saw Zach’s name and a nice picture of him.
Hmm I like the close up of Elias and Zach just looking up at the replay. Maybe they really can do something on the ice.
This Patty/Zach/Gio line is making Sutter look stupid for not having put them together sooner. (Of course, meanwhile, Travis and Langer are like, “Yeah, we suck.”)
Yeah and it’s definitely giving Zach lots of time on camera…
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! for Captain Hugs!
Man, what has gotten into Rupp lately? He has been a monster. Is he really that worried that he may lose his spot to Cam?
If that Devils/Rangers game at the end of the season that Steve was just getting all excited about has anything at stake, I’m not watching it.
Man, what has gotten into Rupp lately? He has been a monster. Is he really that worried that he may lose his spot to Cam?
It really seems like he is, doesn’t it?
I think Marty’s going to be the goalie in the HOF who’s allowed the most “first goals in the NHL” against.
WOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooowah-huh?!?
Rachunek? Whatever! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
WOOO!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Way to respond!
I think Marty’s going to be the goalie in the HOF who’s allowed the most “first goals in the NHL” against.
I was thinking the same thing. He really is going for all of the goalie records, isn’t he?
JP’s going to be here for five games? That means we have to deal with Zach’s JP Issues for that many games. *SIGH*
(Oh, and WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was in the kitchen when Rachunek scored. CRAZINESS!)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Way to go Whitey!
WOOO I love Colin White
I feel like whenever I blink, someone scores!
WOO I love Colin White. :)
Just got home – go Devils! Go dudes on my fantasy team (that means you, too, Parise!)!
-Ookies, I purchased the stuff to make an English Rose on my way home. I’m pretty stoked about trying it!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! (We’re a bit on TiVo delay right now…)
(Oh, and as for the second Kings goal, you know what I love? How well the Devils forwards backcheck and play in their own zone. Wait, no, what’s the opposite of “well”?)
Modry is an ex-Devil? When was he a Devil? TELL ME WHEN!!!
I feel like whenever I blink, someone scores!
That’s a Devils game! Oh wait, no… Sorry. :)
Cat, I hope the English Rose does you well! It is Pauile’s favorite, afterall. And I’m sure Russian drinks girly drinks instead the privacy of his alligator-guarded fortress.
Cat, I do not think the English Rose is going to disappoint. (I don’t think I put the actual recipe on IPB Eats, but the way I made it was 1 1/2 oz gin, 3/4 oz dry vermouth, 3/4 oz apricot brandy, 1/4 oz fresh lemon juice and grenadine to taste. Shake and strain into a chilled, sugar-rimmed cocktail glass. And because we’re wimps, we drink them on the rocks.)
Eep I have to go in a few minutes. I hope Zach’s issues with his dad go away soon, I would like another goal or two from him in the near near future. He has to earn my love back.
Bye everyone. I hope the Devils can pull out a W on this one.
Modry is an ex-Devil? When was he a Devil? TELL ME WHEN!!!
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
And, um, before my time, I guess. To answer your question.
See ya, KG! Have fun at the game!
Bye, KG! I’m sure the Devils are going to want to have a happy result waiting for you when you get back!
Awe yay Travis!!
Ha I hope they have a happy result, but then again they’ve been good at blowing leads.
DAMN IT I forgot to buy lemon juice! And despite the fact that there is not much lemon juice IN it, I suspect it is a vital ingredient.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Travis looked like he honestly thought he was never going to score again. I love this team. Heh.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Acorns!!!
I looked it up and Modry was a 9th round draft pick by the Devils. He only played 52 games as a Devil in two seasons.
DAMN IT I forgot to buy lemon juice! And despite the fact that there is not much lemon juice IN it, I suspect it is a vital ingredient.
I’m sure it does work as an important element, but perhaps you should give it a try without the lemon, so you can taste test a comparison in the future when you remember to buy the citrus. (Our cocktails today were Rum Sangarees. Dark rum, Cointreau and Ruby Port. Yum.)
Frisby, I looked up Modry to and read out loud to Boomer and Schookie: “On July 9th, 1995 Modry was traded from the Devils to the Ottawa.” I got a big chorus of “Modry played for Ottawa?!?” Modry’s full of surprises tonight!
I’m sure it does work as an important element, but perhaps you should give it a try without the lemon, so you can taste test a comparison in the future when you remember to buy the citrus.
I have just done that, and it is still quite delicious, even without the lemon.
Modry’s full of surprises tonight!
He really is. I think during the third he’s going to strip at center ice to reveal he’s actually a woman.
I’m glad you’re digging the English Rose, Cat! It really surprised me. I might even go so far as to call it the Modry of Cocktails.
Disturbing! Don’t say things like that!!!
I have just done that, and it is still quite delicious, even without the lemon.
I’m so glad to hear that! And now you’ve got an excuse to make the drink again, just so you didn’t buy all that liquor for nothing! :D
Disturbing! Don’t say things like that!!!
Hey! It’s not my fault he’s full of surprises tonight! Seriously, he is TOTALLY building toward a reveal like that. I suppose he could alternately stand at center ice and pull off a Scooby-Doo style mask to reveal his long-hidden identity. Or he could reveal he’s secretly been twins all along.
Disturbing! Don’t say things like that!!!
Modry’s never going to look the same again, is he? :P
I just looked up Modry on TSN.ca and see that NJ traded him to Ottawa for a 4th round pick. NJ used that pick to get Alyn McCauley. Who the hell is Alyn McCauley?
Alyn McCauley I remember. He had concussion problems. We traded him to Toronto.
Frisby, I remember Alyn McCauley! I don’t remember anything about him other than that I used to laugh and laugh every time he didn’t get any ice time with the Leafs after we traded him (among other things) for Gilmour.
And then the Kings got McCauley and he did nothing.
One thing (of many) that I’m going to miss about Center Ice? Chico Eats.
Ratti!!!
Uh oh, Rupp didn’t do very well in that fight. Watch out, Rupp, Cam is ready to take your spot! (yeah right :P)
And then the Kings got McCauley and he did nothing.
McCauley was a King? TELL ME WHEN!!! :P
Cat, I was so glad to not have to diarize Chico Eats tonight. That one was lame. Although it sent us off on a lengthy tangent about what we would do if we ate at that restaurant and saw JP Parise. Pookie said her Zach goggles would fog up from the proximity of the danger.
Watch out, Rupp, Cam is ready to take your spot! (yeah right :P)
Don’t even say that, Frisby.
My bad, Schnookie. Go ahead and delete that comment, if you can.
We can only delete comments from obnoxious Caps fans, sorry!
I think he did absolutely nothing last year and I have no idea where he is now.
Awww… Patty didn’t want me to forget he’s fired. Thanks, Patty, for shooting wide on that mini-break. :P
I think he did absolutely nothing last year and I have no idea where he is now.
According to wikipedia, he’s moldering as an unsigned free agent.
Moldering? Maybe just molding. haha
Maybe they do deserve a soldering iron tonight after all…
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally called a late goal from Sarge! Go back and look at the comments! I CALLED IT! (Granted, I called it in a 5-1 loss, but still…)
WOO! 6 for the Devils! Obviously I’m fond of the Devils, but ESPECIALLY when they’re delivering an ass-whooping on a division opponent of the Stars.
Sarge, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I would like to see Weekes get the start in our next game. Just sayin’.
I’m fond of the Devils, but ESPECIALLY when they’re delivering an ass-whooping on a division opponent of the Stars.
Yeah, we tend to do best against any division but our own.
Okay, as I just went off on a shrill rant in the face of Steve and Chico talking about how well the Devils thought they played against the Rangers (“They never got the puck below the fucking faceoff dots! I hate how this team thinks they’re playing well just because they had the majority of the puck possession! GOD!”), Pookie said totally happily and sincerely, “Paulie is so cute.” Pause. “And that’s all that’s important here.” Being a girl and a hockey fan is so fun.
Hey CKim, sorry about the loss, but… WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Honestly, I thought the Devils would lose because they were playing the worst team in the league. It’s the Devils forte. What a pleasant surprise tonight!
Yeah, I’m sorry CKim. But not, you know, really sorry. :P (Seriously, we needed this!)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UGH, my game post will be up in a couple of minutes ladies. SIGH.
Honestly, I thought the Devils would lose because they were playing the worst team in the league. It’s the Devils forte. What a pleasant surprise tonight!
I agree. I mean, last-place team, inter-conference game, second of a back-to-back, and on a losing streak at home? It spelled DISASTER. I’m stunned.
I was with you, Fris. There was no way the Devils could win tonight. None. And yet!
UGH, my game post will be up in a couple of minutes ladies. SIGH.
No offense, but if you’re asking for my expert opinion, I hate to have to say that the Kings did not lose to a very good team tonight. Sorry! @@@@@
Okay, Langer totally knows how to play me. He just completely won me over by going on about how awesome Pando is. Aw, Langer — I know how marvelous Pando is… but you can tell me again!
Pookie said totally happily and sincerely, “Paulie is so cute.” Pause. “And that’s all that’s important here.” Being a girl and a hockey fan is so fun.
This made me really happy, because I do this exact thing when my team hasn’t been doing well. “Mike Smith let in 50 million goals tonight and was so fucking SLOW!!….But look at his cute little smile.”
This made me really happy, because I do this exact thing when my team hasn’t been doing well.
Well, to be fair, if the Devils had been losing this one she wouldn’t have been saying that… :D
For example, last night it was all “Paulie Martin is the worst person on the face of the planet!”
Aw, guys, I’m glad the Devils attempted to make restitution for their recent suckiness tonight. Hockey is so much more fun when the team you cheer for looks competent!
Boo! What a disappointment. No game diary from IPB. At least Sergei scored a goal and had an assist. Plus, the Devils won. So, the evening’s not a total loss.
Sorry Douglas! I’m not going to lie — it was nice to get a break from diarizing. But we’ll try not to do it too often. :D (It’s very nice to hear that the Devils winning salvaged a diary-less evening for you; I’m glad to hear your priorities are straight! :P)
Hockey is so much more fun when the team you cheer for looks competent!
I know! Competence is such an added bonus!
And I’m sure Russian drinks girly drinks instead the privacy of his alligator-guarded fortress.
My undercover operatives report that the Fortress of Zubovitude is a Stolichnaya only establishment, but you never know. Some lemon juice, gin and cranberry juice could have infiltrated his heavy security without his knowledge.
Doubtful, but possible.
My undercover operatives report that the Fortress of Zubovitude is a Stolichnaya only establishment, but you never know.
If he’s like the Russians I knew, he also drinks a lot of homemade fermented fruit compotes that he brewed under the bed at his dacha.
Mmmm homemade fermented fruit compotes…. My host family had some grape juice they’d made at their dacha and I think might have been the most delicious thing I’ve ever drunk. It was like essence of grape in cloud-syrup consistency. It was basically beyond description.
My undercover operatives report that the Fortress of Zubovitude is a Stolichnaya only establishment
As it should be!
Go Stars! While I like the Flames for some reason that I can’t really explain, my Stars get the full support tonight.
If he’s like the Russians I knew, he also drinks a lot of homemade fermented fruit compotes that he brewed under the bed at his dacha.
The mental image I have right now is…utterly hilarious.
It was like essence of grape in cloud-syrup consistency. It was basically beyond description.
Ahhh, I want to go to Russia even more now!
Hey, Flamey McFlamersons, if you could keep your hands off Robi, I’d appreciate it. I don’t like the idea of Phaneuf getting all handsy with Robi. :D
Homemade fermented fruit compotes? Interesting….
Game post is up….
Hey, Flamey McFlamersons, if you could keep your hands off Robi, I’d appreciate it. I don’t like the idea of Phaneuf getting all handsy with Robi.
Phaneuf looks too much like Frankenstein, and I don’t like it. Also, I bet Robi could kick his ass.
I saw the diary, CKim! Nice job!
Ahhh, I want to go to Russia even more now!
You know what was paired with the grape juice? Brown bread. You know how the brown bread was prepared? The 3/4 of an inch that was teeming with ants from being left out on the counter was sliced off and then the next slice in was served to me after being fried in butter. I looked at the slice, thought about all the ants, and decided that, although there were doubtless many, many fried ants in my bread, they were all cooked and filled with vitamins. So I ate it anyway. And it was delicious. Deliciously ant-a-riffic.
Thanks! Good job to your boys tonight. At least I got a win outta Brodeur for my fantasy team. =P
Hey, does Colin White have a nickname? I’ve found another picture I want to post.
He does have a nickname but it’s one that sounds… well, when I’m talking about the team to non-hockey fans they’re like, “Wha-huh?”
Whitey.
Yeah. Whitey.
haha, ok, I’m gonna post it now. One moment.
Nothing shocking. Just amusing myself. Take a look.

Ah, okay.
My stomach says, “Hold off on Russia for a while.”
Congrats on the win, -Ookies!
CKim, nice! :^:::::::

The black bread was actually the culinary highlight. It was really terrific. The ants gave it an extra crunchiness I guess! It was the ice cream that was really the problem. (To be honest, for the first two weeks the host family I was with served me nothing but frozen fish sticks and boxed cherry juice. The fish sticks were like the exact ones I had in my youth. The cherry juice? So nasty I can still taste it.)
Razor was just so kind to inform us that Marty Turco will be publishing a series of children’s books called “Smarty Marty”. I hope to god that he’s not kidding.
I hope to god that he’s not kidding.
Well, Cat, you know Marty’s two main missions in life: Playing hockey and helping underprivileged children to learn to read.
Marty’s Day Timer must look awesome.

That’s just an estimation.
12:00pm: ping-pong with Russian
…Fully clothed ping-pong, that is.
10:00pm: drink, giggle, and sway
I’m hoping he has a swaying partner or else I’d be giggling too.

Unlike Mike Smith, Mr. I-Play-Ping-Pong-Wearing-A-Jockstrap. Geez.
I’m hoping he has a swaying partner or else I’d be giggling too.
On the Dallas New Years Eve festivities thing that was televised, Marty was onstage being interviewed, along with Brenden Morrow, and Marty had clearly already been hitting the bottle. I still have it on my DVR. He was giggling, slurring, swaying, etc. The best part was when no one was talking to him, and he was kind of in the background…He would smile and giggle at what was apparently nothing, and sway. It was, in a word, awesome.
HAHAHAAH, that’s the greatest thing I’ve heard today.
*crickets, echos*
Look how awesome Lui’s father in law is, hee hee. This was right before the Panthers game
“Gina, she can’t walk and has to be in wheelchair right now, so we rented a suite,” said Cerbone, who doesn’t want to hear any catcalls from the Panther crowd. “If anybody says anything about Roberto I’ll bite their ears off,” he said. “Whoever talks bad about my son-in-law, I’ll break their head.”
That’s a great story, alix!
I couldn’t believe the Panthers organization was trying to make it look like he bailed on them. He signed a contract. He was willing to stay. Then they traded him.
Jerks.
I know, Patty! It really grinds my gears. Dumbasses. He was actually devasted when he heard. Obviously he loves it in Vancouver now, but at the time he wanted to stay.
