This is the 26th in our summer series in which we are drawing hockey cards at random from a box and then writing about them.
Today was one of our favorite days, Schedule Day. While this year’s big schedule reveal had a disturbing number of instances that had our ears ringing with the sound of *clank!* (our desperate plea for 7:30 start times seems to have gone unheeded, and the NHL schedulers still don’t seem to understand that the Devils shouldn’t be required to play Wednesday night games) there is something… a je ne sais quoi… an anti-*clank!* to every Schedule Day: The Promise Of A New Season. Who knows what will happen next season! Who knows which players will bust out and which will be just plain old busts, who knows which teams will start strong and end weak, which rivalries will live up to the hype and which won’t.
But most tantalizing in these dog days of off-season — which players will have commentators bless them with comments like, “He’s like a wizard out there! That’s why they call him Kazoo!”
