Dear Crunchy,
We drew Joe Sakic out of the Project Bicycle Spoke box today and we don’t know what to write. Do you have any helpful suggestions or tips for a situation like this?
Signed,
The Ookies
Stately IPB Manor, NJ
Dear Ookies,
Life can’t be all about driving around and having other people do your work for you. You have to figure this one out on your own. If I were lazy and dullardish like you two, I’d get my butt off the couch and do some research to see if Joe Sakic’s been in the news lately for any reason whatsoever, then I’d write about that as if I cared about it. I’d reflect on the decades of stolid leadership and classy play Sakic’s brought to the NHL. I’d acknowledge how hard he had worked to earn two Stanely Cup rings.
Oh, fuck it. Just say, “Joe Sakic? Her?” I mean, we’re all thinking it.

Dear Crunchy,
I am helping my daughter plan her wedding, and we are not quite sure how to handle a delicate situation within my husband’s family. He is estranged from his neer-do-well brother, but my daughter and I are very good friend’s with the brother’s wife, who is a wonderful person. Is there a polite way we can invite my sister-in-law while making it clear that her husband isn’t welcome?
Gloria, Providence RI
Dear Gloria,
Yes, there is a perfectly polite way to handle this. Send your husband’s brother’s wife an invitation to the wedding, and hand-write on the invitation, “This means JUST you. Don’t bring your asshole husband with you.” Then, if she insists on bringing the dirtbag with him, make a huge scene and kick them both out of the reception.
–Crunchy
Dear Crunchy,
Do you have any easy recipes for homemade raspberry jam?
Marianne, Carson City NV
Dear Marianne,
Are you retarded? The easiest way to make raspberry jam is to open a jar of it. This isn’t rocket science, you know. Of course, you probably already know that all that jam is going to make you fat, right? Well, it’s probably too late in your case, but it’s my responsibility as an advice columnist to mention it.

Dear Crunchy,
My son recently turned eight, and my husband and I promised him a pet dog, now that he is old enough to help take care of it. Is there any specific breed of dog you could recommend as a good family pet?
Arlene, Augusta ME
Dear Arlene,
For the love of God, don’t get a labradoodle. Other than that, you’re on your own. I’d say get him something with four legs and a tail. Anything less that that will be creepy, and the other kids will pick on him.
–Crunchy
Dear Crunchy,
I have been in charge of a book club for the last two years, and until recently it has been an utter delight. All of the members of the club get along well and share similar interests and temperaments. We have lively discussions about the books we read, but everyone is respectful and shares good senses of humor. However, several months ago a new member joined the club, and it’s been a terrible fit. This person is argumentative, negative, confrontational, and seems to revel in ruining everyone else’s good time. Is there a subtle way I can try to gently push this person out of the book club, so we can go back to enjoying our lives?
Paula, Buffalo NY
Dear “Paula” (or should I call you Paul”a”?),
Screw you. If you don’t like me being in your stupid book club, just tell me to my face, okay? It’s not my fault you all are simpering, fat, stupid, fat, idiotic, fat fatties. I believe that the best approach to life is honesty, and if that means hurting a few feelings along the way, then tough. If you can’t handle hearing the truth (i.e. that you’re fat), then that’s pathetic. There’s no point in letting people continue deluding themselves, because really, all that comes from sugar-coating hard truths is that people get fat.
–Crunchy
P.S. I’m not leaving the book club.
Dear Crunchy,
I work the late shift at the hospital and as a result, I sleep later into the morning than most people. Every afternoon when I go out to retrieve my morning paper, it looks as if someone’s already read it. My neighbor doesn’t subscribe to the paper, and yet he always seems up on stories covered by the paper. I don’t want to alienate my neighbor, who seems like an otherwise nice guy, but I also don’t want to be sharing my newspaper with him. What should I do?
Terrence, South Bend, IN
Dear Terrence,
It’s called a morning paper for a reason. If you can’t drag your lazy ass out of bed to get to the paper before your mooching neighbor, you don’t deserve to know what’s going on in the world. If getting up early isn’t an option because of the “sick people” in the “hospital”, you could always do what I do — work out a deal with the newspaper delivery service to rig your paper with tear gas and angry killer bees. My neighbors haven’t bothered me for years thanks to the dilligence the Greater Buffalo Newspaper Boy Brotherhood has taken in the effort to booby trap my morning paper.
–Crunchy
Dear Crunchy,
I recently considered retirement after spending twenty years in my current job. I thought I was reasonably well-liked and respected, so when I announced I wouldn’t be leaving afterall, I expected a certain amount of appreciation and well-wishes. Instead, I’m hearing people merely shrugged and said, “I didn’t realize he was leaving.” Should I be concerned?
Joe, Denver, CO
Dear EggJoe,
Her?

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: *gasp* ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Oh…my…stars. This is hysterical.
I just wonder if Crunchy’s dislike of Labradoodles will create dissent in the locker room?
Hee! Thanks guys! :D
I wonder if Pommerdoodle read this and was like, “What did I do wrong??”
Pommerdoodle read this and is now distraught — he only has two legs and no tail. He’s like, “Don’t look at me! I’m a freak! A freeeeak!”
Mocking Super Joe? It’s a good job there’s an ocean between my flatmate and you guys, that’s all I’m saying. She’s gone to bed already, and I’m going to make sure I’m at work when she reads this one :)
So does this mean Nat won’t want to play in the Super/AmazingLeagues?
She will, but she may try to injure Pando or Boxworthy.
Sorry, Nat! :D
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I LOVE it when Crunchy dispenses mean advice! LOVE. IT. Crunchy’s such a beeyotch. And I’m pretty shocked he’s come out so publicly against ladradoodles. That’s harsh, even for him.
Also, I can’t believe Goose let Crunchy into the book club. That was HIS bad. Crunchy’s just being Crunchy.
I don’t know if I can stand for that kind of behavior from Nat; this isn’t an eye-for-an-eye league, you know! :P
Katebits, I agree. Goose should have TOTALLY known better than to ever let Crunchy even KNOW he has a book club. (I’m not sure what the deal is with the labradoodle. I guess they had some kind of tiff in the offseason.)
I guess they had some kind of tiff in the offseason.
Haines and Kibblesworth are trying to drive them apart.
Damn Haines and Kibblesworth! They’re so sinister!

Ahhh! We’ve missed Crunchy.
Ahhh! We’ve missed Crunchy.
Haven’t we, though? It’s high time hockey came back, just so we can all have more Crunchy in our lives. :D
It’s September!
Hockey-related things start happening soon!
And the weather’s gonna get less unbearably muggy!
And all the snot-nosed brats and teenagers have to go back to school and leave me alone!
YIPPIE FALL!!!!
Good morning, IPB!
It’s high time hockey came back, just so we can all have more Crunchy in our lives.
I saw Cranky Crunchy on the news this weekend. It was a “holy cow, what is Ryan Miller doing in town two weeks before camp starts?” kind of piece. (Answer: he wanted to settle into his routines rather than running around like a lunatic if he came back at the last minute.)
Hockey-related things start happening soon!
I still cannot believe that it has been five months since I last saw my team play. This has to be the longest off season on record.
Good morning everyone! Hope you had a good 3-dayer. Just popping in to say hi before class! (Research and Intervention methodology-A, if anyone cares. After this I’ll be all qualified to intervene in well, whatever. Fancy ;) )
Good morning, everyone!
And all the snot-nosed brats and teenagers have to go back to school and leave me alone!
Ooooh, this is an oft-overlooked but still very solid reason to love the arrival of autumn! I think Pookie might be feeling that same excitement at the library, in fact.
(Answer: he wanted to settle into his routines rather than running around like a lunatic if he came back at the last minute.)
Well, life can’t be all about running around like a lunatic, can it?
Ah, this has made my Tuesday morning. I love Super Joe AND Crunchy. I know how upset Pommerdoodle is going to be when he reads this so I’ve mailed him a care package. Hopefully, he’ll have enough Beggin’ strips to last him until the start of training camp. I’m sure the issue between Pommers and Crunchy lies in the Beggin’ Strips. They make you fat, ya know.
I’m sure the issue between Pommers and Crunchy lies in the Beggin’ Strips. They make you fat, ya know.
That’s GOT to be it. And Crunchy’s peeved that as long as Pommerdoodle’s getting Beggin’ strips from anyone else, he’s not going to be in the thrall of Crunchy’s moods. He can get as huffy as he wants to about how fat Pommerdoodle’s getting, but it won’t make any kind of dent as long as there are care packages of Beggin’ strips coming Pommers’s way.
Morning, IPB!
Why is it still so hot down here? Why?! WHY!?
Maybe it’ll cool off a bit today, I think we’re supposed to see our first rainfall from Gustav today. Last night you could see the clouds heading our way, it was pretty cool looking.
I’m so sorry it’s still so hot, Caitlin! I’ve reached a point now where the switch has been flipped — I’m no longer anticipating fall, because as far as I’m concerned, it is fall. Pookie said last night, “Well, you’re going to be in for a rude awakening when it’s hot this week.” And I’m like, “Nope. I’m just going to remark on how unseasonably warm it is now.” :P
It’s high time hockey came back, just so we can all have more Crunchy in our lives. :D
I’m just hoping that he finds time to update the blog on his website again because I find the real thing almost as hilarious as his advice letters. Although in a different and less creative way.
Since seeing that clip of This Hour Has 22 Minutes every time I see Sakic’s name I think, “Is it a cul-de-Sakic?” and crack myself up. It’s sad.
Since seeing that clip of This Hour Has 22 Minutes every time I see Sakic’s name I think, “Is it a cul-de-Sakic?” and crack myself up. It’s sad.
Hee hee! There’s nothing sad about that, at least not that I can see. :D
Crunchy’s real-life blog is a thing of beauty, isn’t it? It would be such a waste if he doesn’t keep it up.
Crunchy’s real-life blog is a thing of beauty, isn’t it? It would be such a waste if he doesn’t keep it up.
I don’t know. Blogging is such a labradoodly thing to do that he might not update out of general principle.
In all seriousness, I hope he updates soon, even if its just with positive preseason platitudes.
And I’m like, “Nope. I’m just going to remark on how unseasonably warm it is now.” :P
What’s sad is the State Fair starts something like the 26th of this month, and I was talking about this with Cat & Jen, who were saying, “It’ll only be 85 or 90 degrees then, yes!”
Sad.
I think, “Is it a cul-de-Sakic?” and crack myself up. It’s sad.
Hee! I giggled at that!
Blogging is such a labradoodly thing to do that he might not update out of general principle.
Ooooohhhh… You’re right! He’d just sit in front of his computer, arms stubbornly crossed over his chest, shooting pointed death glares at Pommerdoodle. :P
It is so fall and I’m dying for hockey! Dying! This was the worst off season ever!
And Sundin can suck it. At least Burnaby Joe can make a DECISION, Mars. And I looooove Burnaby Joe, even though he burns my team every single time.
This post is hilarious! Heh.
I can’t believe the Canucks are STILL waiting on Mars. Isn’t it obvious he’s not going there?
Oh it’s extremely obvious. And Gillis has a back up plan set up. But I don’t know. I guess it’s like they’ve waited this long, ya know? Might as well see it through to the end.
Oh, he DOES have a back-up plan? What is it?
Oh, he DOES have a back-up plan? What is it?
An extensive “Who Moved My Cheese” seminar followed by a kick-ass motivational speech.
Good morning, everyone! Driving back to work today for the first time in over a week I tried to psych myself up by reminding myself that although it feels like I’ve been gone for ages, nothing’s going to be different at work. So I walk in and discover that the three decrepit old computers that get the most use, the ones I spend the most amount of time futzing with, have all been replaced by fancy flat-screened beautiful brand spanking new computers! Woo-hoo!
Might as well see it through to the end.
What end do you foresee, Alix? At this point the only thing I can imagine happening is burying him under a pile of Ikea…
At this point the only thing I can imagine happening is burying him under a pile of Ikea…
Hee! All that’s missing is the fans pelting him with meatballs and lingonberry jam.
Oh, he DOES have a back-up plan? What is it?
Probably playing our young guys and hoping for a miracle :P But on the bright side we have tons of money to re sign Matty and give Alex Burrows and the Sedins a raise!
What end do you foresee, Alix? At this point the only thing I can imagine happening is burying him under a pile of Ikea…
Hehehehe. I think it’s 50/50 retire or playing in Sweden.
That RAWKS about your new computers, Pookie!
Hoping for a miracle sounds like a great business plan!
Hoping for a miracle sounds like a great business plan!
It’s a scientifically proved method that guarantees success.
Good morning everyone,
Good 3-day weekends all around? Ours was good, the weather was incredible.
Fantasy hockey signups are out of control! We have just about everybody ready to go. I think Steph is the only person who expressed interest but hasn’t yet e-mailed me. Everyone else is in.
How many people do we have now, andrew?
Fantasy hockey signups are out of control! We have just about everybody ready to go.
Sweet! So are we looking at two leagues again, or are the numbers low enough to just have one?
And I’m glad to hear your weekend was a good one, andrew! It was really muggy here in Jersey for the first in weeks. It was like August suddenly remembered what it was supposed to be doing. So of course we’d made plans to go to a plowing contest at a nearby living history farm. The event was pretty neat, but I could have lived with nicer weather. (And that’s my story. I’m sure everyone cares. :P)
My weekend was good! Drank too much last night though.
I’m off to get stuff to decorate my room and spend my life savings on textbooks. Do you think Matty would pose for a naked portrait?
A plowing contest huh? Would that be something similar to a tractor pull? I had no idea you ladies were a fan of the Redneck Arts. (Just kidding! Sounds like a good time)
Right now we have 21 people signed up. So two leagues for sure. If I end up commissioning both leagues, which seems likely, we’ll be at 23 signed up. If Steph still wants to jump in, that puts us at 2 leagues of 12, just like last year (which I thought was a perfect amount).
My weekend was good! Drank too much last night though.
That will happen. My family was in town, so I went a bit heavy on the drinking as well. But the good news is that it was homebrew, so the beers were (sort of) free!
Hey IPBer’s!
Cool weather and hockey are just around the corner! I can feel it. It’s only supposed to get up to 90 today! And I survived another 5 hour trip (one way) to West Texas to visit the in-laws where it was actually cooler than it was here. Life if good!
Good 3-day weekends all around?
What is this 3-day weekend of which you speak?! I was at school yesterday, listening to a history of the “Science of Choice”. Oh wait… y’all aren’t in Holland and have different holidays? My bad.
spend my life savings on textbooks
Don’t you love doing that! I weighed mine when I got home and, oh my. That’s a lot of reading.
Do you think Matty would pose for a naked portrait?
For you? He’d do anything. All you have to do is ask ;)
Life if good!
That it if, Myra. That is if.
If Steph still wants to jump in, that puts us at 2 leagues of 12, just like last year
Perfect! If Steph doesn’t get back to you in a few days, one of us can email her and ask what’s up.
I had no idea you ladies were a fan of the Redneck Arts.
That’s Old Timey Redneck Arts to you! Actually, I did overhear some old guys have a conversation about how sad it is that no one’s learning the fine art of plowing circa the 1800′s anymore. Heh.
I had no idea you ladies were a fan of the Redneck Arts.
Are we ever! We like to sit on the sidelines sipping pinot noir and noshing on sushi, while cheering on the tractor pull. (It was olde-tyme plowing, with teams of horses or oxen. We wanted to take the new camera for a spin, and it seemed pretty photogenic.)
How was the beer, andrew? As delicious as you’d hoped?
And two leagues of 12 teams is perfect! WOO HOOO!!!
What up Myra? Sounds like a good weekend. Anything to get out of the heat.
Sorry Mags, I guess you wouldn’t be celebrating the same holidays as those of us in the US, now would you?
How was the beer, andrew?
Indeed, how was it! I’m kind of curious :D
Sorry Mags, I guess you wouldn’t be celebrating the same holidays as those of us in the US, now would you?
I’m just messin’ :). But sadly no. But meh, we get compensating holidays on other days, so it evens out.
(It was olde-tyme plowing, with teams of horses or oxen. We wanted to take the new camera for a spin, and it seemed pretty photogenic.)
Hee! That reminds me of when Jen and I took a Saturday trip to Paris, Texas to see the Eiffel Tower they have there (it’s pretty small, and it’s adorned with a cowboy hat on top), and the only thing that was really going on in town was the Antique Tractor Show sponsored by some local tractor club.
Lots of tractors all about…and grass…and that was pretty much it. :D
And two leagues of 12 teams is perfect! WOO HOOO!!!
YAY, I’m so excited for IPB League, woo! I still haven’t come up with a suitable name. BOO.
If Steph doesn’t get back to you in a few days, one of us can email her and ask what’s up.
Sounds good to me. Also, we have one small issue: too many WC drafters.
Right now it’s 13 WC, 10 EC. And that’s with all “dual team fans” drafting out of the EC (Me, Frisby, Chaz). So even if Steph joins, that will put us at 13 to 11. So….one person will most likely need to switch. How we decide, I don’t know. I’m open to suggestions.
That’s Old Timey Redneck Arts to you!
Ha! I haven’t checked out Ye Olde Tractor Pvll myself. Maybe I should make an effort!
How was the beer, andrew? As delicious as you’d hoped?
Yeah, it’s really good. Slightly hoppy with strong notes of caramel, chocolate, and coffee. Yumm.
Good 3-day weekends all around?
What is this 3-day weekend of which you speak?! I was at school yesterday, listening to a history of the “Science of Choice”. Oh wait… y’all aren’t in Holland and have different holidays? My bad.
If it helps not all students in the US had off either. I talked to my friend who is in vet school yesterday and she was busily going to class and learning about the fetal heart (apparently not fascinating) despite the fact that she goes to a school that is not only in the US but affiliated with the state.
So….one person will most likely need to switch.
I’d do it if it came to it. Or I dunno, someone else. Either way, consider me signed up for that job.
Ye Olde Tractor Pvll
I luff your spelling. Complete with olde u, i mean, v :D
Alrighty, I’m off to practice. See y’all in 2-3 hours.
So….one person will most likely need to switch. How we decide, I don’t know. I’m open to suggestions.
Can you pick using that random number generator you used last year to determine who was in what league? That’s the only suggestion I have.
My family was in town, so I went a bit heavy on the drinking as well. But the good news is that it was homebrew, so the beers were (sort of) free!
Nice! Yeah, my night was kind of like, “Let’s throw down the shots because we haven’t seen anyone all summer!”
Don’t you love doing that! I weighed mine when I got home and, oh my. That’s a lot of reading.
Oh yeah! It’s the best!
For you? He’d do anything. All you have to do is ask ;)
Excellent :D
Life if good.
I was using the Old English “s”. Right? Right?
I’ll be watching for pics of this plowing contest. Sounds right up our alley.
See ya Mags, have fun at class!
Can you pick using that random number generator you used last year to determine who was in what league?
We certainly could. I was thinking, maybe there’s another Irregular who has loyalties to more than one team. But I think I’m out of luck there.
Nice! Yeah, my night was kind of like, “Let’s throw down the shots because we haven’t seen anyone all summer!”
Woo! Shots huh? Nice. Nothing says “Let’s make sure we don’t remember this!” Like rounds of shots. Glad you had a good time.
I was using the Old English “s”. Right? Right?
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: (And if you’re really interested, the 70 best pictures [of the 300 we took] are here on flickr: LINK)
Yeah, it’s really good. Slightly hoppy with strong notes of caramel, chocolate, and coffee. Yumm.
Oh my god, that sounds SO good!
It also sounds like we shouldn’t have any trouble finding someone who wants to chuck the opposite-conference thing; it seems like a terrible burden, but one most of us would be willing to take on for the good of the Super/AmazingLeagues.
It also sounds like we shouldn’t have any trouble finding someone who wants to chuck the opposite-conference thing; it seems like a terrible burden, but one most of us would be willing to take on for the good of the Super/AmazingLeagues.
Let’s see where the final final count ends up. Do you want to put a “last day” on sign-ups?
I think I know a fair way to do it, but I’d like to see where we end up, enrollment wise, first.
We can definitely set a last day. What do you think is a good one? This Friday? Some time next week?
What do you think is a good one? This Friday? Some time next week?
Whatever works. It’s your league, you guys make the call!
Come on, Commish. We don’t pay you the big bucks for us to have to make these kinds of decisions. :P
How long do we need to have to set up the auto-draft? How far in advance is it nice to have it all done? I totally can’t remember all this stuff.
Gorgeous pictures, -Ookies! Awww, those horses are TERRIFYING. Horses are scary (alix’s is exempt, I think).
We don’t pay you the big bucks for us to have to make these kinds of decisions.
haha, yeah, you got a point there. I’d say set it for either this Friday or next Tuesday. What do you think?
How long do we need to have to set up the auto-draft? How far in advance is it nice to have it all done?
The hard part is having everyone manually set their ranking list. Once that’s done, we can have the draft finished within about 24 hours. It’s super easy.
It’s cool to have everything set up in advance, but I think having the draft done and everyone ready to go about 1-2 weeks before the season would be perfect. What do you think?
Awww, those horses are TERRIFYING.
We were VERY scared to get too close to them. Not that I’m generally afraid of horses, but the event was set up so that the observers got to mingle right up with the participants, and I was afraid I was going to piss someone off by getting in their way, or by spooking a working animal. It was kind of like when you want to give police dogs a really wide berth. (And thanks! We had a ton of fun with The General. :D)
It’s cool to have everything set up in advance, but I think having the draft done and everyone ready to go about 1-2 weeks before the season would be perfect. What do you think?
That works for me! We’ll set the deadline for next Tuesday, so everyone has time to digest the announcement of it (which we’ll do tonight). Then everyone can set to work fixing up for the auto-draft.
Yeah, next Tuesday sounds great. Thanks for doing that, andrew!
We were VERY scared to get too close to them.
I am not a fan of horses – not a fan at all. I don’t like animals that are bigger than me and unpredictable. So I just stay away.
Then everyone can set to work fixing up for the auto-draft.
This probably means I can’t draft by nationality, huh? ;)
We’ll set the deadline for next Tuesday, so everyone has time to digest the announcement of it (which we’ll do tonight).
Sounds good. That’ll give Yahoo time to, y’know, actually open the league.
I was gunning for Tuesday because, as some of you may or may not know, I’m the only fantasy commissioner you will ever meet who keeps worse-than-bankers hours. I’m like the DMV of fantasy commissioners. I don’t do weekends.
This probably means I can’t draft by nationality, huh? ;)
You can sure as hell give it a shot!
I don’t like animals that are bigger than me and unpredictable.
Well, to be fair, these were draft horses, so they were pretty slow-moving. :P
This probably means I can’t draft by nationality, huh? ;)
Can’t? Or shouldn’t? :P
This probably means I can’t draft by nationality, huh?
I know of at least one Russian in the EC you can draft. :)
I’m the only fantasy commissioner you will ever meet who keeps worse-than-bankers hours. I’m like the DMV of fantasy commissioners. I don’t do weekends.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I’m totally the same way, so I fully support your decision on this. The thought of having some kind of league administrative work falling on a weekend is too terrible for me to bear.
And waiting for Yahoo to open the league seems like a reasonably prudent idea.
I know of at least one Russian in the EC you can draft. :)
And I hear he might have a good year this year, eh?! :D
I’m like the DMV of fantasy commissioners. I don’t do weekends.
I don’t blame you in the slightest…is being the commish that much work?
I know of at least one Russian in the EC you can draft.
Afinegenov was at the US Open this weekend. They showed him on the tv and Ted Robinson asked Tracy Austin how many goals he had last year.
Tracy: 78!
Ted: I don’t think so.
Tracy: 12?
Ted: I dunno.
Tracy: I don’t know what’s a normal amount of goals.
Ted: We’re being told he had 10. 10 goals last year.
[Cut to shot of Max looking very squirrely.]
I don’t blame you in the slightest…is being the commish that much work?
No. Not even a little. I’m just never in front of a computer outside of work hours….so there ya have it.
Pookie, that’s kind of funny about Max, in a schadenfreude sort of way.
Re: WC allegiance, I claim a strong WHL allegiance, and a serious leaning towards the Stars (Devils forever, naturally, but I kinda do like them Stars. Even Averied up as they are). But to put it bluntly, I WANNA DRAFT EC. So there.
And ha, have I got a story for you guys! As soon as I get dried up from the rain.
Cut to shot of Max looking very squirrely.
What you call “squirrely”, we call “normal.”
Amy, that’s funny because when Tracy said, “What’s a normal amount of goals for an NHLer to score” my first thought was, “Wait, we’re talking about Max Afinigenov here — normal’s got nothing to do with it!” :D
But to put it bluntly, I WANNA DRAFT EC. So there.
Thank you Mags, I will certainly take that into consideration when my decision is handed down. (Don’t I do a good job of feigning civility? God, I’m probably the best commissioner ever.)
“Wait, we’re talking about Max Afinigenov here — normal’s got nothing to do with it!” :D
Poor Max, he gets no respect…outside of whatever Russian secret agancy he works for, that is.
I’m sticking by my prediction. I think he’s gonna have a good year. Timmy too. But I’m much less confident with Timmy.
Don’t I do a good job of feigning civility? God, I’m probably the best commissioner ever.
Feigning? I was totally taken in! You fiendish fiend of a commish :P
But I’m much less confident with Timmy.
Poor poor watermelon headed Timmy (can I say that? I’m not a Sabres fan, so I’m not sure… if I can’t I take it back. Forget I said anything at all! Ever. Hi, I’m Mags, I’m new here!)
But to put it bluntly, I WANNA DRAFT EC. So there.
I really DON’T want to draft EC; I like the challenge! :D Anyway, what I’m thinking is — we can have anyone who’s interested in or willing to draft in the EC let andrew know. Then we can use the random number generator to pick out of the pool of people who want to draft in the EC. That way, someone who wants to do the cross-conference thing isn’t disappointed. And then it’s a fair process that won’t leave someone who does want to draft EC feeling like they were cheated.
What’s a normal amount of goals for an NHLer to score” my first thought was, “Wait, we’re talking about Max Afinigenov here — normal’s got nothing to do with it!”
Hee. She does ask a good question though. What would we consider the “normal” number of goals for an NHLer to score?
Timmy too. But I’m much less confident with Timmy.
According to Nathan Paetsch, Timmy’s in the best shape of his career.
Feigning? I was totally taken in! You fiendish fiend of a commish :P
Gotta keep you guys on your toes.
Poor poor watermelon headed Timmy
I like Amy’s prediction for Timmy’s inevitable injury this year: freak toenail clipper accident. Too funny.
I like the challenge!
I know, me too, but I dunno. I feel like I don’t know 70% of the people in the league, period, forget about conferences because I get to watch exactly zero games this year (cable dudes dropped it, so I dropped cable. Made sense). And since I don’t get NHL news here, any sort of bias (other than what the stuff on the internet throws at me) goes out the window too. Fantasy is a challenge anyway!
And now that I’ve said that, I feel like drafting WC again because I don’t want to be an EC sissy… Bugger.
And then it’s a fair process that won’t leave someone who does want to draft EC feeling like they were cheated.
Sounds pretty much like what I was thinking. Either that or a good old fashioned bribe.
According to Nathan Paetsch, Timmy’s in the best shape of his career.
I can’t lie, that does get me really pumped. BUT, I will not get my hopes up again.

Anybody know anything about Lawrence Nycholat(defenceman)? Apparently we just traded Ryan Shannon to the Sens for him. Makes sense. We definitely have too much scoring. And no defence.
Listen, I will fall on the sword of drafting out of the EC if it comes to that. It’s a tough sacrifice but you know, I can step up. Really.
andrew, I think Max is going to have a good year too. I’m not saying anything about Timmy. I’m convinced I jinxed him last season.
Makes sense. We definitely have too much scoring. And no defence.
hahaha!!! Poor alix.
Dude, my keeper fantasy team is all kindsa Canucks. I’ve got Danny Sedin, Kevin Bieksa, and Mason Raymond. And I just might pick up Matty O before the day is over. (If he promises to stay healthy.)

That’s what I’m talking about! Woo!

I’m sorry honey! Cookie? Cupcake? Tequila?
Cookie? Cupcake? Tequila?
I like to call that “breakfast”.

Can’t say you’re wrong in that.

That’s awesome!! I have a feeling Mason Raymond is going to have a pretty bitchin year. And Bieksa is finally 100% healthy, so he should go back to his beastliness of his rookie year(around 40/45 points, shitloads of PIMs) And Matty is going to try his best. He is no longer concussed, and his knee is all fixed.
I’m sorry honey! Cookie? Cupcake? Tequila?
Thanks, Mags! Can I have all three?
And what do you guys think I should get through the season with? Gin or vodka?

That’s what I thought. I’m a believer in picking up guys who are primed for bounce-back years. Picking the guys who had career years last season (outside of the usual suspects) is a good way to get disappointed.
What would we consider the “normal” number of goals for an NHLer to score?
As a Devils fan, I think 10 sounds about right.
Makes sense. We definitely have too much scoring. And no defence.

Er, I mean, sorry alix! I’m thinking if you just stick with the Canucks long enough, there’s going to be some serious reward being as wheaty as you’ve been considering what your team is doing these days!
Oh and Mags, I’m so sorry you don’t get to watch any games this year! Your cable company dropped NASN? That sucks! You have my utmost sympathy! Does Center Ice Online work in Holland? :(
what I’m thinking is — we can have anyone who’s interested in or willing to draft in the EC let andrew know. Then we can use the random number generator to pick out of the pool of people who want to draft in the EC.
Count me in for that doodad. I’m not even gonna feign “oh, challenge, if I win victory will be all the sweeter because I pushed myself to learn about teams I know nothing about!” Nuts to that, I wanna draft EC because it’s easier. :P Booyah Grandma.
Josh, you’re a hero to us all! :P
Yes, but having WC players is easier. I know they suck because I see their sucky stats everyday, but I don’t have to see them suck in person because I never watch any WC games!

That’s what I keep telling myself!
