Merry Christmas to everyone from stately IPB Manor!

V.E. Mats poses with the kick-ass Christmas card we received from our newest Canucks fan friend, Carol Browne.
Victory Euro Mats is spending his holiday hoping Playmobil Santa will be bringing him lots of presents, which we’re sure he will, and we’re spending our holiday greedily eying our pile of loot and counting down the minutes. Because that’s the true meaning of Christmas, right?
Anyway, one way to help hockey-starved fans get through these two bleak, dark, hockeyless days is this truly mind-boggling feature on the Devils website. Seriously, everyone should go soak up the brilliance of the season with the Devils.

I’m not sure if this was mentioned in the game diary thread, and I’m too whomped from lack of sleep to check, but Gulitti asked the Devils what their best non-hockey Santa gift was.
Captainbrunner’s response:
Jamie Langenbrunner: Playmobil guys. “I had them all set up under the tree.”
Did Langs have a VEM of his own?!

Happy holidays -ookies and all Irregulars!
Josh, we all nearly died when we read that about Langer and the Playmobil! I’m SURE it’s a shout-out! :D
Happy holidays to you and yours!
Check out my site right now and you can see Salvador’s double ugly sweater.
Happy holidays to you Ookies and the Devilogosphericbutmorecubelikething. I wish you good tidings and a hope you get over your hatreds of the Czech Hitmachine Bobby Holik and Iowa’s Very Own Scott Clemmensen.
Happy holidays to you and yours, John! We can’t all help but be merry after seeing those sweaters, can we? :D
Just a quick visit on my way to bed to wish a Merry Christmas to all the IPB regulars, and in particular to our gracious hosts – have a good one, Ookies!
Thanks, Iain! Same to you! Enjoy the holiday!!
Thanks Iain! And Happy Holidays to you, too, Josh and John!
Hey Everyone! Happy Holidays! I wish I could be around here more but the new job takes up much of my blogging time. Those sweaters are u.g.l.y. It took me awhile to realize those were worn by actual Devils players. wow.
Hey, kms2! Long time, no see! Sorry your job is taking up your blogging time; I hope it’s at least a fun job! The Devils ugly sweaters are truly fabulous. I love that they’re all like, women’s teachers ugly sweaters. Doesn’t Langerbrunner look like he borrowed his kid’s elementary school teacher’s favorite holiday look?
Hey kms2! Good to see you, and happy holidays right back atcha! Aren’t those sweaters magnificent? I hope they’ve brightened your holiday! :D
Happy Holidays, IPB! I want a Victory Euro Santa!
I just saw the sweaters and Langer is giving us a double-shot tonight, isn’t he? First he’s wearing jeans and skates and a silly sweater, then he admits he loves Playmobil guys! We want him back! You said we could have him. :P
Merry Christmas, Oookies!
Merry Christmas, Ookies!
And all the irregulars!
Merry Christmas, everyone! :D
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, IPB!
I am completely in awe of the Devils holiday sweaters. Does anyone else think that Zach’s contribution looks like it’s straddling the fine line between “holiday sweater” and “Cosby sweater”?
I think Myra has everyone of those sweaters!

“Zach, I’m telling you this for your own good, that’s the worst fuckin’ sweater I’ve ever seen. It’s a Cosby sweater, A Cooossssby sweater!”
If someone REALLY wanted to win the worst-sweater competition, they would have just put on a Rangers jersey. :)
Merry Christmas! Happy 5th day of Hanukkah!
If someone REALLY wanted to win the worst-sweater competition, they would have just put on a Rangers jersey. :)
Do you think they’re that creative?
If someone REALLY wanted to win the worst-sweater competition, they would have just put on a Rangers jersey. :)
AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Absolutely! That’s BRILLIANT!
I think Myra has everyone of those sweaters!

Merry Christmas everyone!
How about a Cosby-version of a Rangers sweater?
I’m late, but happy holidays to everyone!

I beg your pardon, Hub, but even I would not stoop so low as to wear the Zach/Christmas/Cosby sweater. But I pretty much have ones very similar to all the others, including the turtle-neck. :P
Merry Christmas to all! We got a Wii and I got NHL 2K9!
Merry Christmas, IPB! :)
Good morning, everyone!
Myra, congrats on getting a Wii! You guys will have so much fun with that! Had you played one before? I cannot recommend MarioKart as a post-bad-game de-stresser enough!
Anyone else get anything good? For those of you following the “Schnookie Got Pookie a Dead Fish” sub-plot, the dead fish was, in fact, AA batteries. Yes, my own sister wrapped up and gifted to me a pack of batteries. Granted, the batteries were purchased to go alongside the external flash she got me so we can take better photographs, but still! Batteries! I bet that’s what Zach gives Boxworthy for his annual holiday gift. :PPPPPP
Good Morning! I hope everyone had a WONDERFUL holiday! =)
I, like Myra, also received a Wii. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten to play it yet because my Mom is having a little too much fun with it. Who da thunk?
Batteries! I bet that’s what Zach gives Boxworthy for his annual holiday gift.
I bet Boxworthy gets AAA batteries, cause they’re easier to store for someone Boxworthy’s size. =P
I bet Boxworthy gets AAA batteries
Totes!
I got Boomer a Wii game (De Blob) but it was too hard for us to master instantly. So we watched “Octopussy” instead. It was surprisingly not nearly as bad as I remembered.
I got Boomer a Wii game (De Blob) but it was too hard for us to master instantly.
Rut row, my 5 yr old nephew got that game yesterday. We didn’t play it because he chose to open Mario Kart instead. He couldn’t have given a rats rear about “driving”, he just wanted to go in the water. So, if they ever make Mario Swimming, it’ll be a huge hit with the 5yr olds and NJ Devils!
Good morning, everyone! Wiis all around! WOO HOO! Sounds like we all had pretty good Christmases! As for giving Pookie a box of batteries, I’ll have you note that for much of December, the presents at stately IPB Manor are all about quantity instead of quality. So there. (I also gave her a new set of flannel sheets and wrapped all the components separately. Like, “Yay! You got a fitted sheet. Hope Santa thought to bring you a flat sheet and pillowcases while he was at it…”)
Schnookie –
The IPB method would be a HUGE hit in the Chaz household. My nephews went around counting the number of boxes per person and were so excited to get more then the rest of us. =)
It’s always best to be the one with the biggest pile. Sure, getting the nicest presents is fun, but it’s not as much fun as having more to open! :P
I also gave her a new set of flannel sheets and wrapped all the components separately. Like, “Yay! You got a fitted sheet. Hope Santa thought to bring you a flat sheet and pillowcases while he was at it…”
Hee hee! I hope a stately Christmas went down at Stately IPB Manor! :D (Your card is in the mail, by the way, it will just be…late).
My mom likes to do stuff like that; she also likes to fake us out. Toward the end of present opening, she faked me out with two cookbooks from the ’50′s before finally passing over my copy of Bourdain’s Les Halles cookbook she got me. I love my momma. :D
AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA! Your mother is diabolical, Caitlin!
OH! How could I have forgotten my BEST present? Pookie is such a genius. She got me a “grow your own mushroom” of the month club. Like, every month I get a new mushroom-growing kit. And the presentation? She folded up a print-out of the description of the club, put it in the bottom of a small box, then filled the box with dried mushrooms and topped it with an origami mushroom. She’s BRILLIANT! She then taunted me for a MONTH with the parcel, being all, “I had to STYLE one of yours. It was GENIUS. You’ll NEVER guess what it is…”
And yes, our holiday was super-stately. And yours? :D
Oooooo, Pookie is a genius! Plus, grow your own mushrooms? GENIUS!
Our holiday was awesome, but it wore me out! Double vodka tonics were required.
There’s a lot to be said for exhausting holidays! :D Did you have tons of fam around, or were you guys all just kicking up clouds of merriment?
Tons of family! Plus I did half the cooking and most of the cleanup for a ten person dinner. :)
Pookie is a genius! Plus, grow your own mushrooms? GENIUS!
Yup, I’m a genius. :P Actually, Schnookie asked for a grow-your-own shitake kit ages ago but Boomer and I kept forgetting. Then I saw the 12-month mushroom kit and was like, “Oh yeah!” Then I proceeded to almost spill beans so many times that I actually ended up saying “mushroom” instead of “marshmallow” three days before Christmas. I was like, “Uh, no, no mushroom. You’re not getting mushrooms. Never! Mushroom? What? Never head of the things. Shut up go away leave me alone!”
Happy Boxing Day, IPB!
My sister (in Tulsa) sent my niece and nephew (in Keller) each a $50 bill, but they were origami-folded into a heart and a shirt, respectively. I have never seen anything like it.
My sister got a book from the library on how to do it but struggled mightily. She even had to take the two bills back to the bank to exchange them for nice fresh ones. :D
She finally realized that origami is a science, more than an art, so she had her husband do it.
It was such a cute idea. I think it took the kids a few minutes to realize what it even was.
Sounds like everybody had a good haul! My mom gave me a REALLY nice skillet. She said she had to search high and low for one that wasn’t non-stick, and it befuddled my dad, big-time.
“But I had it ‘splained to me,” he said. :P
She finally realized that origami is a science, more than an art, so she had her husband do it.
Yeah, my origami mushroom left a little – nay, a lot – to be desired, but I figured it was the thought that counted.
Plus I did half the cooking and most of the cleanup for a ten person dinner.
Oof! Vodka tonics all around! :D
Patty, that’s so cute about the origami presentation of the moneys! (When I worked as a bank teller, I HATED Christmastime because everyone always wanted new bills. We’d get new hundreds and fifties early in December, but ALWAYS ran out. And there was always that doofus showing up on Christmas Eve looking for new fifties for his ten grandchildren, and all we’d have left would be the fifties in everyone’s “mutilated money” piles for taking out of circulation. And that person would invariably be a TOTAL asshole about it. And that’s my story.)
WOO HOOO for a new skillet!
Schnookie, I never even thought of that! I’d be one of those annoying dorks that thinks she’s the only one that thought of crisp new fifties for the kids. :P
You’d probably think to get the crisp bills EARLY in the month when a bank could still rightly be expected to have them! :P
If you have any recipes that require de-glazing a pan, I’m all ears! :P
Have you taken the pan out for a test run? (I was SO excited when I finally got a non non-stick pan of my own. I came into cooking back when EVERYTHING was non-stick, and it was the greatest thing, and blah blah blah, and then, finally, one day I got a non non-stick skillet and a whole new universe opened up for me. I pretty much deglaze for everything now. At least, that’s what I like to call it. What I’m usually doing is burning shit to the pan and then “deglazing”.)
The best thing about the skillet? It says right on the packaging that it’s dishwasher safe!
I can’t wait to try to make biscuits and gravy. The first time I ever tried was only last year, but there was nothing to make the gravy with. The sausage bits all stayed stuck to the sausage. :P
The sausage bits all stayed stuck to the sausage. :P
That’s a big problem for gravy, that’s for sure! (I can’t believe you’ve become biscuit-and-gravy enabled AFTER I visited. Damme you! Now I’m going to have to go back to Dallas!)
(Um… I better start practicing.)
By the way… the temp right now? 81 degrees.
I have no idea what the temperature is here, but I can assure you it’s colder than 81! Yowza!
Weather Underground says it’s currently 39.8 degrees in my zip code. Not to put too fine a point on it. (Yeah, wouldn’t want to go crazy and round up to 40. That would be madness.)
Accuweather tells me it is currently 10F where I am. It’s kinda cold…
Yeah, wouldn’t want to go crazy and round up to 40. That would be madness.
That’s the sort of attitude that crashes space shuttles.
Good afternoon, IPB! Sounds like we all survived the holidays (more or less).
In addition to my new iPod, my parents got me a box of crayons and a coloring book for “stress relief.” It’s been awhile since I had crayons, so this 120 count box is blowing my mind.
Dude, a box of 120 crayons? What an AWESOME present! And coloring books! AND an iPod? Your parents RAWK, Amy!
That’s the sort of attitude that crashes space shuttles.
She’s got a point there, Schnookie! Do you think Moonraker 5 rounds up to 40?!
Do you think Moonraker 5 rounds up to 40?!
I don’t think Moonraker 5 can count to 40 to start out with.
Amy, that’s like the best present ever! I can so see you sitting in front of the Sabres game with crayons in hand! :D
I don’t think Moonraker 5 can count to 40 to start out with.

Followed by me not knowing what the fuck is going on.
You guys, we watched Moonraker just so we could know for sure what it was going to look like when the Devils hit that phase of their season. And holy crap does that movie make NO SENSE AT ALL.
120 crayons. I’m not sure what I’d do with that. But it’s a pretty great gift :D
My sister got me these. I’m completely, totally and utterly in love with them.
Those are adorable, Mags!
Mags, I saw those in your photostream and nearly died! They’re SO COOL!
Flutter says thanks! She totally tricked me too. She was Christmas shopping and called me on the phone to ask if they’d be a good gift for her “friend”. And I got all “Eff your friend, I want those!” (Because I’m sharing and caring like that). Turns out they were for me all along. Heh.
And I got all “Eff your friend, I want those!” (Because I’m sharing and caring like that).
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: That’s DIABOLICAL of her! And very clever. If only I bought things for friends, I’d totally do that to Pookie…
If only I bought things for friends, I’d totally do that to Pookie…
You could buy stuff for the cats…
Hee hee! Yeah, I’ll be all, “Pookie, do you think Matsui would like this macro lens?”
Meanwhile, Matsui really want the macro lens, but is lamenting his lack of opposable thumbs.
…my parents got me a box of crayons and a coloring book
I LOVE crayons and coloring books! Now all you need is a bottle of Sprite. :P
Mags, those cookie cutters are hilarious! I need those.
