We are ushering in the second half of the season by making one marriage official and by accepting the calling card of some certain gentlemen callers.

There’s no going back now. We’ve printed out their schedules. We’re in it for the long haul!
(One question: why is it the Flyers are the only team in the league that makes their “printable” schedule a Word document? Are they stupid? Wait. Don’t answer that.)

Maybe they’re just lazy. Or lazy and stupid (I think this is a fairly good option when it comes to the Flyers organization).
Oh my goodness! I’m so used to the Flyers format that I can’t look at any other kind. (Not that I was looking to print out the Canadiens schedule or anything.)
(Man does it get annoying going to their website every day to see when the next game is….)
I think this is a fairly good option when it comes to the Flyers organization
What Meg said. One of the lowly Tranny Bride minions probably hasn’t figured out how to create pdfs yet. Word is about as hi-tech as they get.
Meg, I gotta think you’re right. They are definitely lazy and stupid. Or they can’t afford pdfs under their cap.
(Man does it get annoying going to their website every day to see when the next game is….)
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: It just might be time, kristin, to admit you need to print it out. :P
Good morning, everyone!
Good morning!
Do you ladies need any Flyers shirts? I have plenty to share, especially since my collection of Canadiens gear is growing….
HAHAHA! No, I think I can live without any Flyers orange in my wardrobe. But thanks. :P
Good morning all!
I am assuming Pookie made it home alright last night? Mother Myra was worried.
We had some pretty thick fog this morning and they were warning everyone to stay away from the High Five still. Hopefully, Patty won’t have any trouble getting in.
After seeing Jeff Carter, I can understand your “interest” in the Flyers and I can tolerate the Bruins now. Just not Hnidy or Jack Edwards. Never. Never. Never.
The Stars schedule that you print out is just a Word document, I think.
Morning, Myra! Pookie sure did make it home safe and sound, although she accused us of trying to kill her because the driveway was all icy by the time we got home. But Boomer was watching to see if she was going to have to salt it, and not long before Pookie got home, it was still 38 degrees out. Less than an hour later, the water was all frozen. Hmph. (I can’t believe the High Five is still an icy deathtrap!)
As for the Flyers, Farter’s not the only one! Richards is also a total dreamboat! And they’ve got an extensive cast of easy-on-the-eyes-albeit-pretty-douchey supporting players too. :D
And I hate to say it, but if the Flyers are lazy and stupid for having their schedule in a Word document, so are the Stars. :PPPPP
Farter’s not the only one! Richards is also a total dreamboat!
And you could get lost for days in Marty Biron’s eyes.
Schnookie, sounds like Sven is branching out from temperature control to grounds maintenance.
Hee hee! Sven is TOTALLY our groundskeeper! :D
And I hate to say it, but if the Flyers are lazy and stupid for having their schedule in a Word document, so are the Stars. :PPPPP
Well, you may be onto something there. Their website is kinda boring this year. The media section is a vast waste land.
Can you tell no one else is here yet this morning and I don’t have much to do?
I agree on Richards too but he has been letting the Ice Trolls down a bit lately. He needs to pick his production back up or Hub is not going to put up with him for just being cute.
Flyers? Really? You’ve moved too far south, haven’t you.
Their website is kinda boring this year. The media section is a vast waste land.
Story of the Devils fans’ lives. Sigh. That’s one reason we’ve enjoyed the Flyers this year — they have TONS of content on their website!
And Richards has been totally dogging it lately. It’s diminishing my enjoyment of the Tranny Brides, that’s for sure!
LizD, what can I say? It’s not like it was voluntary on my part — I mean, they choo-choo-choosed me! The heart does foolish things, especially when confronted by the likes of Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. :D (Although we’ve never lived in Devils country. We are totally in the Flyers part of Jersey, so it was very against-the-grain for us to embrace the Devils in the first place. I was hoping we’d be trendsetters, but alas…)
Morning IPB Broadcasting!.
I can’t decide if my favorite highlight last night was Sid’s backhander against King Sieve or Godard pasting Orr in the mush.
Or was it Rayzer beating on some cossack?
Decisions, decisions…
It was quite an entertaining night whichever way you slice it, wasn’t it? I’m voting for Sid’s goal. Actually no, my highlight of the night was that Pens/Rangers game going into the third tied 1-1, with Sam and Micheletti leading off the period by saying the Rangers just need to keep playing smart, sit back, and let the Pens make the first mistake… and then Lundqvist promptly let that terrible shot from Gronk beat him, and the wheels completely fell off the Rangers. That was delicious.
I can support that. I couldn’t watch Pens/ MSG employees when the night began. Both Sam and Micheletti were in their usual homer groove and driving me batty. If the Flames/ Sabres were a little more entertaining (or if TSN’s cameras weren’t whiting out my picture), I wouldn’t have bothered to watch the third. Then Staal scored, followed by LETANG! (Is he a noun? a verb? or just a name begging for onomatopoeia status) and I couldn’t turn away. When Sid popped that shot I woke up the dogs with a shout. THat third made up for a less than stellar Life on Mars or Top Chef last night…
Wednesday nights are normally a total drag at stately IPB Manor, since Pookie works the late shift at the library and Boomer and I spend the evening in suspended animation. It was a typically drowsy night last night, then, until that third period.
(or if TSN’s cameras weren’t whiting out my picture)
Oh dude, SERIOUSLY! We kept flipping over during intermissions, and it was blinding. How is it that these channels haven’t yet figured out how to deal with filming a large sheet of ice under bright lights? They’ve only been working on it for a few decades now…
LETANG! (Is he a noun? a verb? or just a name begging for onomatopoeia status)
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I am assuming Pookie made it home alright last night? Mother Myra was worried.
Aw, thanks, Myra! I did get home fine, although it was some kind of windy last night. I always forget that wind is actually the harshest driving weather I ever deal with; it’s nasty, yo!
Schnookie, sounds like Sven is branching out from temperature control to grounds maintenance.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::: The thing is, it was 38 degrees out, but the driveway is always in the shade and never ever melts as fast as everything else. So even though the temps were high, everything in my past history with our driveway convinced me it would be icy. And I was right. So Sven can suck it!
I can’t decide if my favorite highlight last night was Sid’s backhander
That goal was INTENSE! I’d say it was almost as fabulous as Paulie’s breakaway goal! :P
It was especially nice after Sam/ Mich went on about Orr’s hit on Sid in the first, how it hurt him, how Sid’s knee needed rest and on and on. And then, three points later, Sam/ Mich mush-mouthing about Sid’s performance being good in spite of the knee but the real story being Rainjuh penalties.
Not to get all man-crushy but that 87/9/71 line is pretty amazing. Two of ‘em work the puck along the boards, while the third drifts about until the slot opens and SHAZAM! scoring chance (When 58 is on the ice, it is appropriate to sub the SHAZAM! with a LETANG! MLA Hockey Committee has recently approved this. Next stop OED).
If the Flames/ Sabres were a little more entertaining (or if TSN’s cameras weren’t whiting out my picture)
I didn’t think the glare was that bad from the Flames/Sabres game, but I wished many, many times that Pierre would just STFU already. He was practically ready to anoint Cammalieri as the second coming.
HAHAHA! The “Oh man, Sid is TOTALLY hurting” followed by, “Ulp. I guess he’s not as hurt as we were hoping” narrative provided by Sam and Micheletti was fantastic.
(When 58 is on the ice, it is appropriate to sub the SHAZAM! with a LETANG! MLA Hockey Committee has recently approved this. Next stop OED).
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: You’ve been a dazzling force of nature shaping the hockey lexicon lately, Stalky! :D
Amy, the first time we flipped over to the Sabres game I was like, “ACK! Pierre! TERRIBLE!!!” and quickly flipped back to the previous channel. And then I was like, “ACK! Rangers intermission show! TERRIBLE!” and went back to Pierre.
I LOVED Sid’s goal! Then I checked Puck Daddy today and he had a bunch of made-up reasons why it wasn’t a good goal. Greg W. is irking me a lot lately with stuff like that.
It was a great goal! Very few have that power and accuracy on the backhand.
I didn’t think the glare was that bad from the Flames/Sabres game, but I wished many, many times that Pierre would just STFU already. He was practically ready to anoint Cammalieri as the second coming.
I didn’t really notice a lot of glare either…then again, I was making dinner for most of the game, so I wasn’t paying close attention.
Amy, wasn’t he rediculous? God, Pierre is such a shithook.
Anyways, my favorite was during the intermission. They were playing “the quiz”, and Tortorella basically told all of the other talking heads that they were stupid and so was “the quiz”. Anyone catch that? I was cracking up. Torts can be such an ass. I love it.
Then I checked Puck Daddy today and he had a bunch of made-up reasons why it wasn’t a good goal.
That was REALLY puzzling. I don’t entirely understand when we started judging the highlight-reel qualities of goals on how clutch they necessarily were. Also, since when were we judging them on how shitty the goalie was? The annals of Great Goals are chock full of ones the goalies want back. Sheesh. I’m so torn with Sid these days. First I REFUSE!d him along with everyone else, then I relented and let him win me over, then I succumbed to the anti-Sid backlash, and now the overwhelming tide of that backlash is making me REFUSE! anti-Sidism again. :P
now the overwhelming tide of that backlash is making me REFUSE! anti-Sidism again.
I was thinking the same thing after reading Greg’s post today. However, my anti-anti-Sidism is tempered by my intense anti-Penguins-ism. It’s so hard being me!
I don’t entirely understand when we started judging the highlight-reel qualities of goals on how clutch they necessarily were. Also, since when were we judging them on how shitty the goalie was?
Exactly! Why didn’t he analyze Rick Nash’s famous goal last season based on all the crappy defense he waltzed through?
I’m fully anti-anti-Sidist. I’m thinking of telling Sid he can come over here and sit by me.
However, my anti-anti-Sidism is tempered by my intense anti-Penguins-ism.
That does complicate the issue a bit, no question.
I’m fully anti-anti-Sidist. I’m thinking of telling Sid he can come over here and sit by me.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Me too! He just has to promise to find a better team to play for, though. :P
Poor Sid. He probably was going to sign with the Stars, then he heard Avery might be on the team so he decided to re-up with the Pens. Now he’s pissed that he could have been a Star!
I predict Zetterberg will wish he wasn’t tied to the Wings someday. Even if it’s six years from now, he’ll have six to go. I just can’t imagine knowing that you’re going to be in the same locker room for 12 years, whether you want to or not. It’s different when you look back on 20 years with the same organization, than when you see it looming in front of you. I think Sid’s thinking that way right now. And I bet DiPietro is, too. The Islanders are going to suck for most of his contract. He might be wishing he was coming up on free agency in a couple of years.
Why didn’t he analyze Rick Nash’s famous goal last season based on all the crappy defense he waltzed through?
I think Wysh gets a ton of shit over there no matter what he writes. The Wings and Pens fans are absolutely rediculous on Puck Daddy. He’s probably just writing that to stem the backlash a bit.
Then again, he hates on both the Wings and the Pens quite often. So maybe he’s just stirring the pot to drive up readership. I like Greg, he seems like a cool guy…y’know…for a Devils fan.
Just to chime in: I’m so effing sick of hearing about Sid. I thought the league would calm down on him a little after a few years, but they just keep pimping him as hard as they can. My wife, who doesn’t even watch hockey, is sick of him because he’s pushed so hard on us viewers. It’s really a shame. He’s such a good player, I hate to REFUSE! him, but that’s what it’s come to.
And I bet DiPietro is, too. The Islanders are going to suck for most of his contract. He might be wishing he was coming up on free agency in a couple of years.
I bet DiPietro loves those 12 more guaranteed years on his contract. It’s the Isles who are wishing they could do things differently. Heh.
As for the other long-term contracts, I think the regret about them would vary from team to team. The Wings have proven they’re a good franchise to play for over the last two decades, so there’s not a lot of indication that things are going to go hugely south in a hurry. Sure, they won’t be an elite team forever, but the environment of working there will probably remain stable. But teams like the Pens and Caps (why is Ovie’s contract never one that comes up in these conversations?) haven’t exactly demonstrated an ability to maintain longterm high levels of success or off-ice stability. If I was a player, I’d be a lot more wary of what the landscape of the franchise is going to be like with those kinds of teams than with the Wings.
andrew, is your wife sick of Ovie yet? I feel like he gets more hype, but maybe because I like Sid better. :D
And I don’t know what Wysh is doing lately. I seem to disagree with him more than agree lately, and the throw-in joke about Avery’s suspension versus every other suspension that comes up is getting so tired, I usually just stop reading when I see it and move on.
I like Greg, he seems like a cool guy…y’know…for a Devils fan.
Heh. We’re a pretty lame group, I know. I appreciate how willing you are to hang out with Devils fans, andrew. :P (And I like Greg a lot — Puck Daddy is by far my favorite non-Irregular hockey blog going.)
As for the league pushing Sid, I’ve done a remarkable job this year of pretty much ignoring everything. I think I’ve been really distracted this season by stuff like real life (I spent the first month of the season paying attention to the elections, and have only recently started getting more deeply immersed in hockey again), so my exposure to main-stream hockey content is really limited. So all I’m reading now is blogs, which means that the angle on Sid that’s getting vastly overexposed for me is the backlash. It’s sort of funny having this perspective right now, because I’m getting all the breathless Sid hate and none of the breathless Sid hype. It’s like bizarro world!
That’s a good point, Schnookie. I felt for Brad Richards early this season when things were SO crappy for the Stars. I pictured him thinking, “Sure, any move is a crapshoot, but the Stars are classy and have been for a decade, and they make the playoffs 99% of the time and surely it’s a good place to go.” So he waives his NTC, comes to town, and everything goes to shit. He was probably thinking, GEEZ, I would NOT have waived it if I’d known this was what it would be like.
Fortunately, it was just a blip. I’m pretty sure.
I seem to disagree with him more than agree lately
I loved almost every word he wrote about the Red Wings’ ASG suspensions. :D
andrew, is your wife sick of Ovie yet? I feel like he gets more hype, but maybe because I like Sid better. :D
Actually no. Here’s what I think…to us core fans (who watch all the time), it’s a matter of both Ovie and Sid being shoved down our throats (I’m a little sick of them both, TBH). To the passing observer though…it’s all about Sid. Every commercial, every Vs. broadcast, NBC broadcast, etc. I think Sid is mentioned way more than Ovie. To the point that even when he’s not playing, they’re talking about him.
Oh, and also I think these long contracts are asinine! Look at Briere or DiPietro. Bad moves! Joe Thornton was asked yesterday about Zetterbergs contract and god bless him he said he thought it was great for Hank, but he would never sign anything over 3 years beacuse he wouldn’t want to handcuff himself or the team. Awesome.
I seem to disagree with him more than agree lately
I had to stop reading blogs altogether a few weeks ago because of school work (sorry y’all. I’m sure every entry you wrote in the mean time was a special slice of brilliance!), but whenever I did get a chance to go on PuckDaddy I had the same thing. Sort of disappointing.
Heh. We’re a pretty lame group, I know. I appreciate how willing you are to hang out with Devils fans, andrew. :P
Hee! I thought you’d get a kick out of that. Of course Devils fans (or rather, Devil’s fans) are cool! For having such a successful franchise, you guys sure do have to put up with a lot of shit from other fans and the media. I don’t think I could hack it
For having such a successful franchise, you guys sure do have to put up with a lot of shit from other fans and the media. I don’t think I could hack it
Heh. It’s not easy, believe you me. :P (The only reason I didn’t burn down the interwebs when the A2Y crowd was crying about the lack of Wings on the All-Star team, and how no one loves them even though they’re the Cup champions, was because we’ve been blogging long enough now that I know it’s not worth engaging. Thank heavens I know now that no one on the interwebs listens to anyone else, otherwise I would have wasted a lot of my time on them.)
That’s awesome what JoeTho said! I love when players are forthright and actually rational about contracts.
Yeah arguing about sports, especially over the internet, is rarely a fruitful endeavor. Some of these people out there are just comically misguided.
Thornton is a cool dude. He doesn’t even test the waters with his short contracts. He just ran the last one out and then signed a new one the second he was eligible. Good guy.
Oh! I almost forgot to tell you guys. I ordered my seeds this week! PUMPED!
That IS cool what Joe said! He’s so right. Eventually it’s going to handcuff the team, at least.
And don’t get me wrong! I still love Puck Daddy. We’re just in a FIHT lately. We’ll make up.
He doesn’t even test the waters with his short contracts. He just ran the last one out and then signed a new one the second he was eligible. Good guy.
Just like Marty! Gotta love that! :D
And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! for the seeds! Any new and exciting veggies for this year?
JoeTho told E! that Lui was a hot looking Italian guy. Heh. I love him.
My team? Not so much. I hate them actually. Is it too late to accept gifts from Patty Marleau and the Sharks or Lucic and the Bruins?
Is it too late to accept gifts from Patty Marleau and the Sharks or Lucic and the Bruins?
It’s never too late, alix! I accepted gifts from the Hurricanes in 2006 after they beat the Devils in the second round. I mean, there are no rules! :D
Any new and exciting veggies for this year?
Um…nothing exotic, but we definitely got some good stuff: Yellow Perfection and Arkansas Traveller tomatoes, Bush Champion cucumbers, Hidalgo and poblano peppers, Sunrise orange bell peppers, Cocozelle Bush zucchini, Genovese Sweet basil, Mesclun salad mix, and
He just ran the last one out and then signed a new one the second he was eligible. Good guy.
That’s like Lehtinen, too. He was signing 3-year deals, but for so little, that he was getting calls from the NHLPA. He’s like, I like it here, that’s plenty of money, why would I leave?
a cover crop seed blend.
Tracie said, “Mescalin salad mix? WTF? That can’t be legal.”
I love that woman.
Good to know, Schnookie!
I Just…I can’t believe AV hasn’t been fired yet. And I sure as hell don’t know why they stop playing when they have the lead. He was juggling the lines in the 2nd period when they were UP two goals. Arggghhhhh!!!
He was juggling the lines in the 2nd period when they were UP two goals. Arggghhhhh!!!
Sounds like he went to the Ron Wilson school of coaching. Christ. Sorry alix, I hope he gets canned soon…for your livers sake.
I hate them actually. Is it too late to accept gifts from Patty Marleau and the Sharks or Lucic and the Bruins?
Of course it’s not too late! It’s never, ever too late! Watching sports is supposed to be fun, not just some duty you feel compelled to fulfill. I’m finding I’m much happier about the Devils season now that I have the Flyers and Bruins to make hockey fun again. Embrace both the Sharks and the Bruins! It’s not permanent or anything. I think the discipline of serious fans embracing secondary teams is one that’s not explored enough.
As for Puck Daddy, I also agreed with every word Greg wrote about the Red Wings suspension, and got a kick out of laughing at the commenters. The Sid thing struck in my craw because I had been agreeing with him so much lately.
And WOOOOOOOO!!! for new seeds! What’re you growing? And how are the hops coming along?
Oh and whoever this Joel Ward person is on my shit list. He elbowed Matty in the eye and made him bleed! Then only Matty was called for a retalitory slash. Hmppph.
Oooh, mesclun salad mix is so pretty! We had some two years ago and didn’t keep up on it (we get sooooo much lettuce from the farm, we really don’t need additional salad stuff) so we’ve haven’t planted it since, but I really, really love that spring green color the baby leaves get. I almost want to plant it decoratively! I was also very tempted by Hidalgo peppers myself, so I’m interested to hear how those go!
Embrace both the Sharks and the Bruins!
Do it alix! (And I can tell you, the Sharks are making it easy to like hockey this year. It’s amazing what consistent winning will do for your pysche. I find myeslf complaining a lot less…honestly I don’t know what to do with myself.)
And how are the hops coming along?
Poorly. Turns out I planted them way too late last year. I’m going to buy new rhizomes this year and plant them in late February/early March.
That sucks about the hops. I hope this next batch goes better!
andrew, that sounds like one tasty, tasty garden you’re going to be growing this year! I just looked up your tomato types — those sound SO good.
And Tracie’s right — mescalin salad mix is fantastic stuff. :D
I was also very tempted by Hidalgo peppers myself, so I’m interested to hear how those go!
I’ll keep ya posted. I hear they’re super easy, just like jalapenos. I’m all about super easy.
Sorry to go off track for a second, but did I tell you guys? I’ll be getting the first and third Friday of every month off from now on! Without pay! The State of CA is so broke that we employees are being furloughed for the next 18 months to save money. Can you believe that?
alix, I’m so sorry AV is being such a dink with the line changes and everything! Sutter was like that last year… ::Shudder:: I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that he gets fired soon.
I’ll be getting the first and third Friday of every month off from now on! Without pay!
Holy crap! That’s awful! Well, the time off is nice, but the “without pay” is awful. That is really unbelievable.
That sucks about the hops. I hope this next batch goes better!
S’cool. It should go much better this time around…I planted in May last year. I’m a dummy sometimes.
that sounds like one tasty, tasty garden you’re going to be growing this year! I just looked up your tomato types — those sound SO good.
Yeah, should be fun! I got the tomatoes mostly for their hardiness and disease resistance. Mine got a bit of the blight last year, so I’m hoping to avoid that. Plus I’ve had the Arkansas Travelers and they’re freakin’ delicious.
And Tracie’s right — mescalin salad mix is fantastic stuff. :D
She’s a keeper, that girl.
Holy crap! That’s awful! Well, the time off is nice, but the “without pay” is awful. That is really unbelievable.
I know. The real estate market crashes and we’re now suddenly facing an eleven figure budget deficit and zero liquidity. My question is, what the hell happened to the literally billions of dollars in property taxes and capital gains taxes and everything else that CA has been collecting for the last eight years? Inept to a shocking degree, my employer.
I got the tomatoes mostly for their hardiness and disease resistance. Mine got a bit of the blight last year, so I’m hoping to avoid that.
Ahh, it’s the sign of an experienced gardener, going for hardiness and disease resistance over flashy descriptions. We’re doing that this year, too — growing the ones that specifically thrive in Jersey rather than just picking the fanciest ones from the seed catalog. I guess it’s a nice thing about tomatoes, though, that even if you’re just planting the ones that you know are hale and hardy, they’re still scrumptious. :D
That’s awful about the furlough! I’m so sorry! But, I suppose it’s better than people losing their jobs outright, right? Sigh. I’m so sorry.
My question is, what the hell happened to the literally billions of dollars in property taxes and capital gains taxes and everything else that CA has been collecting for the last eight years? Inept to a shocking degree, my employer.
Dude, seriously. Wow. I am so sorry.
My question is, what the hell happened to the literally billions of dollars in property taxes and capital gains taxes and everything else that CA has been collecting for the last eight years?
Sitting in a bank account someplace. That’s crazy. I’m so sorry!
We’re doing that this year, too — growing the ones that specifically thrive in Jersey rather than just picking the fanciest ones from the seed catalog.
Smart move! I need to study up a bit more on which ones handle the heat out here. I’m all about growing stuff that is suited to your region.
But, I suppose it’s better than people losing their jobs outright, right? Sigh. I’m so sorry.
Supposedly close to 20% of the state workforce is in danger of getting laid off. Also, the state controller has said that they might have to start paying employees in IOUs next month. Because there’s no cash. Wheee!
But honestly, thanks for the sympathies guys. I’ll be just fine though. I’m taking a 10% paycut with the furlough, but I’m exempt from both the layoffs and the IOUs because of the department I work in, so it’s all good. For now!
Also, the state controller has said that they might have to start paying employees in IOUs next month.
Holy shit! That’s INSANE! What a complete nightmare. (I’m glad that you’re doing okay, though.)
(I’m glad that you’re doing okay, though.)
Thanks!
Sorry for derailing the conversation…twice.
So…how ’bout them Flames? (Stupid effing Flames. God!)
Also, the state controller has said that they might have to start paying employees in IOUs next month.
I’m with Schnookie, that’s insane! There’s just no excuse for that!
Sorry for derailing the conversation…twice.
Well, we do have a strict “always on topic” rule around here, so…. BANNED!
Late comment, so a the risk of being BANNED for tardiness… I will never warm up to Sid because he has learned all of the whiny B.S. from Mario. It’s as if the whiny torch was passed from Mario to Ron Francis to Sid.
I did agree completely with Wysh about the Red Wings ASG stuff, but I keep forgetting because I expected him to go the opposite way. :D
andrew, I’m so sorry about your crazy employer! I am kind of not surprised that the real estate bubble got crap all over everybody when it burst, though. When a little 50s ranch like mine is going for $750k as a fixer upper, it’s not going to end well. :D But it’s hard to stop it once it gets going, eh?
Pish posh! We never ban for tardiness! Only for veering off topic. Heh.
So…how ’bout them Flames? (Stupid effing Flames. God!)
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::
BANNED!
Damnit!
Quick, somebody change the subject again to get conversation going — I’m bored to tears here! (Seriously, this day just suddenly screeched to a painful halt. Time is standing still.)
Umm.!!…oh!!!…Shoot, I got nuthin’.
I buckle under pressure. Like a belt.
I’m reading a book about the world within books. It’s really kind of awesome. The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde, if anyone cares.
Oh! I know! How about this?
Giguere TOTALLY deserved to win the ’03 Conn Smythe over Marty.
That’s a blast from the past conversation starter, eh?
Giguere TOTALLY deserved to win the ‘03 Conn Smythe over Marty.
That’s a blast from the past conversation starter, eh?
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::
I don’t ever CARE enough about Giguere to start a fight with you over that one. But YOU’RE WRONG.
But YOU’RE WRONG.
Works every time.
Oh hey, Ookies. I learned a valuable garden lesson this year that I would love to share: Never plant Borage. Ever.
I threw some seeds in the garden, just to let them pop up randomly. They’re a fantastic bee attractor, I had bees out the wazoo. Anyways, I ripped them out in October and ever since they won’t stop coming out of the ground. They are so invasive! I’m pulling new sprouts every single week. Nightmare.
Giguere TOTALLY deserved to win the ‘03 Conn Smythe over Marty.
That’s a blast from the past conversation starter, eh?
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: That… wasn’t what I was looking for. But thanks — I appreciate the effort. Heh.
Ack! The borage sounds terrible! We have that same problem with catnip. We let a bunch go to seed two years ago, and now it’s just part of our garden landscape. There is no winning against the catnip.
No borage, okay. *nods* The catnip was a great bee attractor too. Huh. Maybe that’s why there are no bees anymore? Everyone’s sick of the stuff that attracts them? Oh, that reminds me! I think it’s time to put out the mason bee house!
Oooh! Our mason bee house! I can’t wait for our little pet bees to move in!
Sorry, I should have said, “It’s time to remmeber to remember to put out the bee house!” Sorry, as soon as we start talking seeds, I assume it’s Springtime. Heh. I’m super excited, though, because Boomer cleaned all the unnecessary furniture out of the room where we put the seedling trays, so now I’ll be able to get at them to water them without stubbing my toes. The room is basically a blank slate just waiting for seedlings! I can’t wait!
We weren’t supposed to put the house out in the Fall, were we? Are the bees supposed to overwinter in it? I’m totally confused. I’ll have to remember to read the scruntions this weekend.
*looks outside* Hmm, yeah. I can’t really imagine anything growing out there yet. But hey, good for you guys!
I think the bees want to move in in the Spring. We just need to be sure to have the house out for them before pollination season starts.
Mags, this is the time of year where you look outside and visualize the tomatoes and peppers and other bounteous bounty! :P
Hey, speaking of seedlings…how do you guys grow yours? Just under normal light in a room in the house? I was thinking about building a plexiglass box to leave out on the patio, but I don’t know if it’s worth it.
We have an exceptionally sunny bow window that we grow our seedlings in. We’d love more space, and grow lights, but for the time being, this set-up is doing fine for us. The key is that we get LOTS of sun in it, and even that isn’t enough for stuff like lettuce. So we have to pick and choose which things we start and which things we direct-sow. We run out of space really quickly, though, so given the choice between our current set-up and something more greenhouse-y, I’d go with greenhouse.
The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde,
I read “The Fourth Bear” and “The Big Over Easy” by him. Talk about enjoyable, yet cracked out reads. Both deal with crimes related to nursery rhyme characters living in the real world.
Amy, I’ve got “the Big Over Easy” sitting on my bookshelf, waiting for me to get done with this one. I really wonder what the heck that man is smoking to come up with this stuff.
I recently read some cranky garden blogger being all, “You CANNOT ever, ever, EVER start seeds just in a sunny window! EVER! They will be rangy and awful!” But… Three years in a row now we’ve had success with stuff started in the window so… ::shrugs:: We only start onions (and those get put outside pretty early), peppers and tomatoes. Everything else gets direct sown. And yeah, the tomatoes were rangy, but you know what? They gave us a shitload of delicious tomatoes, so take that cranky garden blogger!
Huh…good to know. I haven’t decided whether or not I’m even going to start anything indoors. I might just direct sow everything.
I’m the laziest gardener, I usually just buy seedlings. But not this year!
Yeah, just direct sow everything. We direct sowed onions the first year and they were fine. We start them indoors now because we had some squirrel problems the next year. The peppers and tomatoes should be fine direct sowed where you are because it gets warm enough sooner. I would think.
Our lettuce was rangy, but everything else has started just fine in our sunny window. But yeah, direct-sowing is also a winner; I know some cranky-pantses are all, “You can’t direct sow tomatoes!” but we’ve done that and had success with it. I mean, they’re plants — you put a seed in the dirt and watch it grow. It’s not rocket surgery! :P (Our nosy, know-it-all neighbor nearly had a heart attack when we told her we were starting tomatoes from seed. She’d never heard of such a thing. I… don’t understand.)

Without any pests around, I think I can direct sow without fear of the seedlings getting munched.

Yeah, it’s warm fairly early out here. March is practically growing season.

That’s what I’m talking about!
I’ve got to say, I can’t BELIEVE it’s already getting to be seed-starting time. We’re going to get our onions going in two weeks! This past year just flew by, didn’t it?
This past year just flew by, didn’t it?
It surely did.
I swear, I don’t even know where the time goes anymore! It’s insane. I’m only 30! I’m too young for nostalgia!

I know! I can’t believe January is almost over!

You mean tomato plants don’t all come pre-grown from the garden center?
Bobby Flay was working with the most gorgeous heirloom tomatoes yesterday. He dressed them with some fresh basil, some mozzarella and a honey dijon vinaigrette. I was practically drooling.

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Oooh, I bet the honey dijon is good with that dish. Mmmmm… Heirloom tomato season is only like seven months away! Woo-hoo! It’ll be here before we not it!
OK, I’m heading out! Toodle-oo everyone!
HAHAHAHA. Oh MY God! My team is cracking up. Willie Mitchell apparently ran Mason Raymond in practice, Raymond got pissed and pushed him back, and Willie Mitchell cross checked him and punched him (with his glove on). SOB jumped in to defend Raymond and asked Mitchell to fight.
Oh and Big Baldy is playing on the checking line. YEAH. That makes a shit load of sense.
alix, the Canucks sound like the Cowboys!
I’ve heard people say it happens all the time, but I think I might be worried if teammates were fighting each other.
So sorry about all that, alix! When you interview them, ask what the heck Sundin is doing on the checking line!
Yeah, Patty. SOB and Mitchell didn’t end up fighting, and the coaches said everyone cooled down after that…but still. You don’t like hearing it, really.
Earlier in the season, they kept saying how they’ve never been on a team where the guys liked each other so much, so maybe they’ll be just fine when they finally win a game again.
*Sigh* And Mats hasn’t been lights out. He’s still struggling a bit. I adore Burr and Kes with all my heart, but there’s no way a guy getting that much money should not be playing on your top 2 lines. Ever.
I heard the broadcasters saying something about Mats skating somewhere other than at practice or something? What was that about?
Oh…maybe just that he went up to Whistler over the all star break and worked out instead of taking the time off like the other guys did?
That could be it. Seems they’d be glad he worked out, since he’s so far behind!
