After a terrible night of having to watch baseball, we’re finally back in the warm embrace of hockey tonight. Of course, it’s still just the Wings/Pens SCF, so… open thread it is.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Starting the thread with a goal! Way to go, Pens!
I guess the Pens were tired of listening to us bitch. :P
No way. Us? No way. :P
Our teams can learn from the Pens. Scoring equals a stop in the bitching.
Cleary sometimes forgets to wait for somebody to hit him before he dives.
Our teams can learn from the Pens. Scoring equals a stop in the bitching.
The Devils are like, “No it doesn’t! We freakin’ won our division, and they STILL bitched!” :P
The only thing Versus ever gives us replays of is the cheating on faceoffs because it’s Edzo’s favorite point to beat to death. Why are they showing us every single faceoff in repeated replays, but they don’t show us penalties?
I don’t want to jinx it, but this game is kind of interesting.
Dang it. I knew I’d jinx it. Now it’s a stupid stupid game.
Maybe it’s his gear, but Lidstrom looks like he has the posture of my grandpa.
Geez. Butthead forgot which goalie he was supposed to stand in front of.
Lidstrom looks like he has the posture of my grandpa.
I completely agree.
And I missed the goal. I was helping with the process of cutting the enormous swath of fabric that’s going to be the backing on Squaresville! (EEEEEEEEE!) Was it a typically shitty MAF goal? :P
hmm. yeah. Hockey.
Wow. That was quite a goal. If only he did that more often, he might be worth what they’re paying him. Heh.
Oh, and THAT’S the Brian Rafalski I remember so well.
I LOVE shorties! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
(I think I’m in here by myself.)
(But it’s okay! Pens got a shortie.)
Briiiiiiiiiian Rafalski.
(I think I’m in here by myself.)
I’m here now! I just had some quick quilt cutting to do! Also, my brain was completely killed by a training I had to attend today. Sid needs ot revive my brain.
Oh look! Literally as I typed that… WOOOOO!!!
Was it a typically shitty MAF goal? :P
Actually not his fault!
And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
SUCK IT, WINGS!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just in time for 2 Pens goals! Great goal Sidney!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry! I forgot to turn on the lights before I assumed I was alone. :P
That second one wasn’t a shortie, was it?
Second one was a breakaway but not a shortie. Pretty one, though!
(I think I’m in here by myself.)
I just woke up. And apparently so did the Penguins. Weren’t they losing two seconds ago?
Am shocked by the excitement of this game! This one’s actually fun to watch!
Mmmmmm J Stall. And what the fuck Mmmmmm Malkin.
WOOOOOOOO!!
Woohoo!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
I LOVE THE PENS!
And THERE’S the Chris Osgood we know so well. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Tic-Tac-Toe! That was beautiful!!!!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4-2!!!
I’m a little surprised they haven’t pulled Osgood yet. Pull the goalie!
I just woke up. And apparently so did the Penguins.
The Penguins have been playing well pretty much the whole game, surprisingly. Butthead just screened the wrong goalie on the Wings’ second one.
I’m a little surprised they haven’t pulled Osgood yet. Pull the goalie!
Babcock probably figures there’s no point in pulling him because it’s not his fault and it wouldn’t help to wake up his teammates — it was just some great anti-Wings conspiracy that caused those goals.
I heard that Bettman told the Wings they can only dress one goalie tonight.
I heard that Bettman told the Wings they can only dress one goalie tonight.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Actually, he told them no goalies, but Babcock just smirked and went right ahead doing whatever he wants, because he’s a hero.
Mike and I love Paul Maclean’s (The ASS coach for Detroit) oldiey time moustache. I can just picture him riding one of those bikes with the big front tire to practice every day.
Awwww! It’s Fin’s birthday today and he visited Canucks Place Children’s Hospice. So precious. I hope he gets lucky with Pam Anderson again. Lol.
I love Babcock even with his oily smirk.
I heard that Bettman told the Wings they can only dress one goalie tonight.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I can just picture him riding one of those bikes with the big front tire to practice every day.
AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That’s delightful! (It’s also delightful that he’s the ASS coach. Heh. I can’t decide whether that means he coaches just the asses, or whether he’s the assiest coach…)
…whether he’s the assiest coach
I doubt that’s it. :P
Apparently there’s a guy on the Cup from like the 50s or something that has ASS MAN next to his name. LOLS.
I doubt that’s it. :P
Heh heh. I have to agree.
…it was just some great anti-Wings conspiracy that caused those goals.
I heard that Bettman told the Wings they can only dress one goalie tonight.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Jordan’s beard has filled in nicely.
I am decidely pro Pen, but I do love Lidstrom.
The Blersus guys are all bright orange tonight.
Hub and I want to know if the Red Wings dye their beards read, since they all appear to be the same color.
Hub and I want to know if the Red Wings dye their beards read, since they all appear to be the same color.
They were factory made that way. Ever wonder what they’re doing with the shut down auto plants? Making a hockey team.
They were factory made that way.
Teehee! Robot hockey players that look too much like humans, so we reject them!!
Ever wonder what they’re doing with the shut down auto plants? Making a hockey team.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Robot hockey players that look too much like humans, so we reject them!!
Well, that certainly explains why everyone hates the Wings! Heh.
Robot hockey players that look too much like humans, so we reject them!!
Of course! That explains everything!
Guys, ixnay on the Ecrets-say of the Ings-way — Bettman will shut us down!
Um, er, Detroit Red Wings?! Uh, noooo! I was of course talking about the Flint Red Wings! They’re an adult rec league with a undefeated record. Yeah, so there Bettman! *shifty eyes*
Okay…ookiepay! hahaha…Ettmanbay is an olltray.
Wait, there’s a Red Wings in Detroit, too? Since when?
Guys, I have to share one of the ditsiest moments I’ve had all year. I was watching ESPN today and they were talking about Terrel Owens. I was about to say, “Man, he’s gonna make Buffalo a circus to live in, I’m soooo glad…” and before I could say “I don’t live there” I looked over at the school paperwork I have to fill out for next semester. My transfer paperwork for Buffalo. Yeah. I’m that dumb.
Wait, there’s a Red Wings in Detroit, too? Since when?
Not long, I don’t think. How old’s the NHL?
mcguffers, :^:::::::::::::::::::::::::: That reminds me of the interview with Mike Commodore I read. He said the summer after his senior year of high school — after he’d committed to UND for the Fall — he was watching the news and saw footage of a huge flood. He said, “I was like, ‘thank goodness I don’t live there!’ and sure enough the caption came up saying ‘Flooding in Grand Forks’.”
If Crosby’s hurt, I will cut a bitch.
Oh, unrelated to anything, I have to share my reason of the week that I love the interwebs. Yesterday Boomer was all in a tizzy about the toy gunman at Princeton, and was all, “We need to turn on the local news [which we never do] to see about this wacky story I’m sure you guys don’t know anything about!” And Pookie and I were like, “The toy gunman at Princeton?” And Boomer was all, “Oh. I guess you already know about it.” And we were all, “Of course we knew! Our friend in Vancouver, whom we’ve never met in person, told us about it while we were at work!”
And that’s my story.
“Of course we knew! Our friend in Vancouver, whom we’ve never met in person, told us about it while we were at work!”
Best. Story. Ever!
Teehee! Robot hockey players that look too much like humans, so we reject them!!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
You’re a genius, Carol!
It’s never OK to rub another guy’s rhubarb. LOL.
He said, “I was like, ‘thank goodness I don’t live there!’ and sure enough the caption came up saying ‘Flooding in Grand Forks’.”
That’s so gonna be me!! Every winter, I’ll watch the news at night to see what to expect weather wise. No matter how bad Rochester gets it, Buffalo is 10 degrees colder and gets six more feet of snow. I can just see myself watching the news this year going, “Woah, that’s gonna suck to be them…. oh shit….”
“Of course we knew! Our friend in Vancouver, whom we’ve never met in person, told us about it while we were at work!”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Isn’t that how everyone gets their local news?
I can just see myself watching the news this year going, “Woah, that’s gonna suck to be them…. oh shit….”
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
It’s never OK to rub another guy’s rhubarb.
HAHAHAHAHA! So true. So. True.
“Of course we knew! Our friend in Vancouver, whom we’ve never met in person, told us about it while we were at work!”
Best. Story. Ever!
I agree!
I often get odd looks when I already know something my “friends in New Jersey/Buffalo/Rochester/Vancouver/Southlake/etc.” told me!
Of course, canning another guy’s rhubarb is fine, right Carol? :P
AHAHAHAHA!!
It’s from the Molson Canadian ad.
I often get odd looks when I already know something my “friends in New Jersey/Buffalo/Rochester/Vancouver/Southlake/etc.” told me!
I get that whenever I mention random knowledge about a team that I usually wouldn’t know (such as a curling outing.) I try to play it off like i’m just really worldly.
I have enjoyed this game immensely. I have to say.
Yeah, this was a good one!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Cleary’s a thug.
I’m ready for bed, again. Yes. I did wake up at 9:30pm and I’m going to bed at 10:45pm. I blame the pink eyes. (If you haven’t noticed, I’m a huuuuuggge Princess when I’m “sick”)
I blame the pink eyes. (If you haven’t noticed, I’m a huuuuuggge Princess when I’m “sick”)
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::: Poor thing! I hope you feel better tomorrow!
Thanks, Schnookie! Now that I have the weekend off, I’ve been feeling much better :)
g’night ladies!
WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we have a Series!!!!
And I’m sorry your sick mcguffers. I’m sending you virtual Mom Hugs and chicken soup.
G’night, mcguggs!
I think it’s time for us to watch some Rockford now — see y’all tomorrow!
mcguffers, your eyes just need some Sprite and coloring books!
Good night, everyone!
Good night Ookies. Enjoy Jim.
Good night, mcguffers! I hope you are cured by about 3pm on Friday, so you get to keep your weekend. :D
Whoops. I stepped out to work in the garden, but I’m back now to say…
Of course, canning another guy’s rhubarb is fine, right Carol? :P
Yes. Yes it is. And I’m probably going to go to my friend’s place to get some more to can this weekend. Whoopee!
Of course, canning another guy’s rhubarb is fine, right Carol? :P
Yes. Yes it is. And I’m probably going to go to my friend’s place to get some more to can this weekend. Whoopee!
Rhubarb in the can? you ladies sure do push the boundaries of good taste around here.
Rhubarb in the can? you ladies sure do push the boundaries of good taste around here.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: We sure do! But that’s what makes IPB such a special place. :P
And good morning, everyone! It’s almost the weekend!
It’s almost the weekend!
THANK CHRIST.
WOOOO, IPB. How is everyone today?
It’s almost the weekend!
Almost? hell, its close enough to call it the weekend. and besides, its my birthday today. Go Devils!
And, its National Donuts Day! thats all the reason anyone needs to celebrate.
How is everyone today?
Just fantastic. Today is “rediscover my desk” day, wherein I catchup on all the stuff I missed this week while in a project crunch. And it’s going really well so far.
I’m just happy that the Pens win last night turned this back into a hockey series again instead of a one-sided blowout.
Happy birthday Ken! And happy National Donuts Day!
Happy birthday, Ken! Have a good one!
It’s almost the weekend!
I’ll drink to that. If, y’know, I were a drinker.
Speaking of rhubarb, I made (yet another) rhubarb strawberry crumble/pie thing today. It’s sitting in the kitchen, torturing me.
while watching that game last night, albeit multitasking-ly, i’ve realized for these playoffs, that in each game i’ve rooted for whoever was losing at the end of the first period.
very peculiar way to pick a team, i guess, but it is what it is. and last nights second period was awesome. hopefully someday the Devils can learn to play like that .
Happy Birthday, Ken! Woo!
-Ookies, I don’t know if you’ve seen this yet or not, but I saw it and instantly thought of y’all, since you’re watching Rockford and were discussing old tv openers.
I give you – Han Solo, P.I.: http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/06/04/votd-han-solo-pi/
Amy, I’m sorry you’re having to rediscover your desk. Ouch. They should let you go home early for your trouble. ;)
I’m just happy that the Pens win last night turned this back into a hockey series again instead of a one-sided blowout.
Word. I am really starting to love goofy-faced Malkin. It’s disconcerting. Alternately, I’m starting to hate the Wings more. No surprise there. Heh. :p
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEN!!!!! Woo hooo! I hope you enjoy quite the bacchanal.
I’ll check out that link when I get home, Caitlin!
And ugh. I thought today would be an easy day, because I get to leave at noon, and my bosses are all out of the office, but when I got here this morning my bosses’ boss was here. Offering me a promotion I really don’t want. So now I have to decide whether I want to take a big raise to start a job I don’t want to do in an office I don’t want to work in. While it’s highly likely that someday I’ll have to do that involuntarily (and without dictating the pay terms) no matter what I choose, and if I say no, the person who’s currently doing that job will probably get fired. Happy weekend to me.
I give you – Han Solo, P.I.: http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/06/04/votd-han-solo-pi/
I am slain. Excuse me while I lie here on the floor, recovering from that laughing fit.
Happy weekend to me.
I’m sorry, Schnookie. I’m so sorry.
Schnookie- Wow. I think your only way out of this is to make a totally unreasonable demand to take the promotion. Like 5 hours a day off to blog or 6 pounds of artisinal pork a week.
Happy Birthday Ken!! I hope someone takes you out for a nice cookie dough, stuffed olives, ginger ale and doughnut dinner! (yeah, I forgot the cereal)
And I thoroughly don’t care which team wins. At all. They could end the series with a tie and put both teams names on the cup for all I care.
Schnookie, I’d say take the job. Because I like money. And Greed, for the lack of a better word, is good.
Happy weekend to me.
That blows! What a bummer, Schnookie. I don’t even know what to tell you about that – just that I hope everything works out okay in your favor. :(
I think your only way out of this is to make a totally unreasonable demand to take the promotion. Like 5 hours a day off to blog or 6 pounds of artisinal pork a week.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I think your only way out of this is to make a totally unreasonable demand to take the promotion. Like 5 hours a day off to blog or 6 pounds of artisinal pork a week.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Only 6???? (And that’s a good suggestion. I’ve known this job offer was in the works for months, and I’ve been trying to think of what my COMPLETELY outrageous salary demand would be. I’m just afraid that I’m going to sound like Dr. Evil asking for one million dollars. And then I’ll be stuck in the job having asked for less than I could have wrung from it.)
I think your only way out of this is to make a totally unreasonable demand to take the promotion. Like 5 hours a day off to blog or 6 pounds of artisinal pork a week.
Oooh, oooh, and you get to pick the next Devil’s bonding day!! I would LOVE to see Zach quilting!
(In all seriousness, being backed into a corner at work sucks balls and I feel your pain. I quit my job and went back to school, but I really, really, really hated it there.)
I think your only way out of this is to make a totally unreasonable demand to take the promotion. Like 5 hours a day off to blog or 6 pounds of artisinal pork a week.
:^:::::::::::::: Sounds completely reasonable to me :D
I would LOVE to see Zach quilting!
I think he’s just, erm, Zach-esque enough to be good at that.
Oooh, oooh, and you get to pick the next Devil’s bonding day!! I would LOVE to see Zach quilting!
EVEN BETTER! (I would very much like to see that, too. Oh, they’re all supremely hockey skilled and all, but my fine-motor control is way better than theirs. I’d feel so superior to the Devils [more than I do already... heh] watching them try to sew! :P)
In all seriousness, being backed into a corner at work sucks balls and I feel your pain.
Thanks, I appreciate it. And I feel especially awful because there are so many people in the world — and so many good friends here — who are looking for work, and here I am being all, “I’m being offered a big promotion and raise, and it’s SO TERRIBLE!” (The VP is trying to appeal to my ambition. She’s being all, “This is a big advancement, great for your career development. You’ll be working directly with the Senior Leadership.” Meanwhile I’m thinking, “If I had even an OUNCE of ambition, do you think I’d be a secretary?”)

Eh, if the new job made you a miserable whiny biotch, we’d like that less. :P
Happy birthday, Ken! *tosses couch-pillow-colored confetti*
Schnookie, that totally, totally, totally blows. I’d say ask for 2 million dollars, 6 pounds of artisanal pork, and the ability to work from home.
Eh, if the new job made you a miserable whiny biotch, we’d like that less.
:^:::::::::::::::::::: Yeah, I’ve already got the Devils for that! Heh.
Speaking of miserable and whiny, it also happens to be my farm day, which means picking 4 quarts of strawberries in the pouring rain. It’s been raining for two days here — I’m meeting Boomer over at the farm in a few minutes and her sign-off was, “Bring your scuba gear!”
I’m so sorry, Schnookie! I’ve been in similar situations before, where people want to make the manager of people like me and it’s crapshoot whether to do it. Like you, I’m not that ambitious.
BUT! Would it be worth all the extra quilt fabric you could buy with your new money?
Maybe you could insist on a desk by a window.
Speaking of miserable and whiny
… I just tried to bake cookies using a recipe online and then my stupid computer died and then my modem started acting up! I guess cookbooks aren’t so bad afterall…

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I have cook-pile. I print recipes then stack them in the pantry. Then I have to rifle through them when I want to make something.
I have cook-pile.
I have a stack of cooking magazine that live on my coffee table. I used to clean them up in the bookcase once a week, but whenever I took the trouble someone would request something specific and I’d have to pull out all the magazines to find it. So I gave up on that, heh.
I print recipes then stack them in the pantry. Then I have to rifle through them when I want to make something.
I tear out recipes (like my favorite rhubarb cake) and laminate them (yes, laminate) and then put them in a binder. 1. Because I’m a huge dork. 2. Because if I spill stuff on them, I can wipe them off. and 3. see #1.
I guess cookbooks aren’t so bad afterall…
I have cook books, print-outs, tear-outs and electronic copies saved on my hard-drive, email and external-drive. I never know which version of the recipe is the right one, and always lose the one with my notes.
but America’s Test Kitchen has the best recipes. THAT much i do know. Their brownie recipe is phenominal. and their instructions are idiot proof – and thats coming from an idiot.
KenF: America’s Test Kitchen has a podcast so you can see them do stuff. So cool. They taught me how to cook steak! Wooo!

I realized the other day that I’m becoming addicted to cookbooks and I have no place to put them. So, we put up shelves in the kitchen and now one whole shelf has nothing but cookbooks.
We have a big bookcase built into the island and several shelves worth in the living room. Schnookie has two binders for recipes that are printed out or handwritten. But my problem is, printing is a pain (I still have to install drivers on my newish laptop to get it to connect to the printer) so I always figure it’s easier (and slightly less wasteful) to just take the computer into the kitchen and work off the recipe on Epicurious or IPB Living. Normally that works fine, but today? Not so much. Heh. (The cookies appear to have turned out okay, so that’s good!)

Yet another reason I need a laptop!
Honestly, Smitten Kitchen has been a lifesaver for me. She has great recipes with good notes. If I had a laptop, I’d be dragging it in the kitchen with SK and IPB Living.

But I’m glad the cookies came out okay! And you have homemade cookies! ::stomach growls::
I realized I had a problem when I looked at my cookbooks, became aware that I had two copies of the same edition of the Joy of Cooking and had no problem with that. (And kept them both.)

Nothing wrong with that. You could accidentally spill something on one copy, and this way you have a back-up!
(The cookies appear to have turned out okay, so that’s good!)
They sound delicious!
I like Smitten Kitchen, too. I have tried a few recipes from Pioneer Woman, too. She gives instructions as if she’s talking to a small child who has never cooked. It’s a huge help. :D
I love SK’s pictures even if the recipe isn’t something I’m at all interested in making.
i like Smitten Kitchen, my daughter and i made the soft pretzels a couple times, very tastey and fun to make.
i’ve dvr’d America’s Test Kitchen a few times, but never know when its on anymore. will have to check out the podcasts. they give some great tips.
Happy birthday Ken! And happy National Donuts Day!
Seconded!!!

I really like their show. I never think to watch it, then I’ll trip over it on some weekend afternoon and really enjoy it.
Thanks All for the birthday wishes. off to drinks. Go Pens or Wings or whoever.
Oh, and Happy Birthday, Ken!!!
Happy Birthday Ken!
My Aunt is going to send me a recipe for rhubarb custard pie. Uh, YUM! Also, sounds healthy, no?
While it’s highly likely that someday I’ll have to do that involuntarily (and without dictating the pay terms) no matter what I choose, and if I say no, the person who’s currently doing that job will probably get fired. Happy weekend to me.
Oh crap. Time to get quilting. When the going gets tough, the tough get quilting. Or rhubarb canning. Whichever works.
Mo’ money, mo’ problems. :-(
Mo’ money, mo’ problems. :-(
I don’t know what they want from me it’s like the mo money we come across the mo problems we see…
Sorry, I loves the gangsta rap.
That’s a really sticky situtation, Schnookie. I’m sorry :(
(That’w what she said)
That isn’t a good situation, Schnookie, but is it possible that, despite your lack of ambition, they see qualities in you that are a good fit for that position – even if you never go any higher after this promotion? One thing in your post confused me – you mentioned that if you said no to the job the current occupant would be fired. Not if you said yes? What happens to that person if you say yes?
I know people who aren’t all that ambitious (the guy at my client who left that I used to work with who I said was a great client was actually one of them) but people value them in spite of that – and want them for specific jobs for specific reasons. If the job were open and someone weren’t going to get fired over the whole thing would it be of any interest to you?
When the going gets tough, the tough get quilting. Or rhubarb canning. Whichever works.
HA! Absolutely! :D
Not if you said yes? What happens to that person if you say yes?
The whole situation is such a mess. The problem is that this VP doesn’t get along with her admin — they’re oil and water. So the situation has become increasingly untenable, and now her solution is to put her admin in my job and move me into her admin’s job, but create a promotion in the doing. I don’t think HR is even going to let her do that anyway, but if I don’t agree to it, she’s going to have to fire her admin and find a new one. I don’t want the job (and I really don’t want her current admin to have my current job — heh), and after talking to some higher-ups, I’m feeling increasingly confident that I’m not screwing myself over if I say no. And that it’s not my responsibility to solve the personality dispute issues between that VP and her current admin. So I’m going to enjoy my weekend of quilting worry-free! :D
Thanks SO MUCH, you guys, for listening to me whine and being such good help. Y’all are the best!
Y’all are the best!
We know, right?
In all seriousness, I’m glad it’s not eating at you. It’s not worth it to worry.

Cheers to that! With 2 jars of stewed rhubarb. *Clank!*
Carol, that’s mm mm good! :P
