So, Gentle Reader, we have all survived another Draft. How exciting! And as difficult as it is to believe, given how thrill-a-minute the Draft is on TV, our not-trip to not-Montreal was equally exciting. Yesterday was our “later rounds of the Draft” day in not-Montreal, and Mats was happy to show off how we would have spent our time if we’d actually been there.
First, he listened to some music — we made special playlists just for this road trip, and Mats was really proud of how his turned out.
Then, after an exhausting few minutes spent paying only the slightest attention to the later rounds of the Draft, Mats settled in for a long afternoon nap.
Now that he thinks about it, Mats is actually glad he didn’t end up paying for a hotel room to spend so little time soaking up the sights and sounds of Montreal. Not-road-tripping definitely has its benefits.
Another great benefit of only being not in Montreal? We don’t have to spend today driving home. Instead, we’re going to put up our feet, put on some movies, and stitch the day away.
“Wheee!” says Mats. “This is so much more fun than sitting in the car all day! This was the funnest Draft weekend ever!”

I love that VE Mats wears his pink sunglasses to bed when he naps.
Not sure if anyone noticed, but USA Men’s soccer blew a 2-0 lead and lost to Brazil 3-2 today. To be fair, team USA was a major underdog. Hmmm. An underdog with a rockstar goalie coming out strong and losing a lead near the end of the game. That sounds like another team I know but I’ve forgotten their name…
Mats is living in the lap of quilt luxury.
It looks like Mats had fun!
Has anyone heard any news about Travis lately? :/
Looks like Mats had great fun on his not-cation.
Has anyone heard any news about Travis lately?
I wonder if he’s enjoying a trip aboard the SS “Not a Priority Right Now” with his old friend Staffy?
Has anyone heard any news about Travis lately?
His qualifying offer has to be in by COB today (I guess that’s 5pm) or he becomes a UFA. I expect Lou’s not dumb enough to miss the deadline.
Looks like Mats had great fun on his not-cation.
Is a not-cation different from a staycation? Probably the difference is that a vacation was planned and then NOT taken. As opposed to a staycation where not going anywhere was the plan all along. :D
Probably the difference is that a vacation was planned and then NOT taken. As opposed to a staycation where not going anywhere was the plan all along.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Yup! That is the difference! :D
And good morning from our last vacation day, everyone! We just harvested potatoes! We were going to do a photoshoot of Mats digging the potatoes up (they’re bigger than he is), but we’re lazy. And that’s my story.
I expect Lou’s not dumb enough to miss the deadline.
Travis keeps reminding himself it’s happened before! He’s planning all the ways he’s going to use his massive UFA pay checks this season. His agent keeps saying that’s a bad idea, but Travis just won’t listen!

Awww, sad! That would’ve been fun to see.

He’s got his eye on a gold-plated cribbage set.
I just had this horrible thought that the real Mats has stumbled across IPB, found all of the VE Mats postings Heeee-larious and wants to sign with the Devils now.
He’s got his eye on a gold-plated cribbage set.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Morgan, that would be TERRIBLE! We’d trade Holik for Mats! OK, wait, that’s an upgrade…
I just had this horrible thought that the real Mats has stumbled across IPB, found all of the VE Mats postings Heeee-larious and wants to sign with the Devils now.
When I read “real Mats” I had a mental image of VE Mats surfing the web and finding IPB. Then I realized “real Mats” is probably a reference to the actual real Mats. It’s a major sign of hockey withdrawal when you see a guy’s name and think playmobil figurine and not hockey player.
It’s a major sign of hockey withdrawal when you see a guy’s name and think playmobil figurine and not hockey player.
Or it’s a pretty telling statement about the relevance of Mats Sundin in today’s NHL… :P
Or it’s a pretty telling statement about the relevance of Mats Sundin in today’s NHL
That’s it, now you’ve made Larry Brooks mad!!!
We’d trade Holik for Mats! OK, wait, that’s an upgrade…
I don’t think Gillis would fall for that one.
That’s it, now you’ve made Larry Brooks mad!!!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: What a terrible thing to do!
Or it’s a pretty telling statement about the relevance of Mats Sundin in today’s NHL… :P
Ovechkin should be worried then, because I saw the number 8 this morning and didn’t immediately think of him. (my first thought was “Ech. Too Early.” And my second thought was, “Hmmm, the Sabres have #8 available, Komi…”)
That’s it, now you’ve made Larry Brooks mad!!!
*GASP* Oh no you didn’t!
Ovechkin should be worried then, because I saw the number 8 this morning and didn’t immediately think of him.
Yes, but if you’d seen a grape or an ape, you would have immediately been like, “Ovie!” So he’s happy with that.
#8 always makes me think of Igor Larionov. Sorry, Ovie.
#8 makes me think of my birthday. And I’ll thank Ovie for not stealing that from me!
Hmmm. An underdog with a rockstar goalie coming out strong and losing a lead near the end of the game. That sounds like another team I know but I’ve forgotten their name…
Yup. Sounds VAGUELY familiar. :-(
Although, the town is buzzing with Gaborik rumours right now…and the fact that the Sedins have not been signed yet. OH LORD! Help us!
In all fairness, I think the Sedins’ request was rather greedy. 12 years? Really?
Stay-cation with Mats is awesome. Thanks for the play-by-play.
I don’t know what to make of the Sedins’ demands. I mean, on the one hand, people seem to think they’re pretty good hockey players. On the other hand, I always assumed they were just a draft gimmick by Brian Burke and were to be regarded as living jokes. I’ve had a hard time reconciling that impression with their actual playing careers. I think I’m probably not a good judge of the situation.
And I’m so glad y’all enjoyed staycation (wait, not-cation? Yeah, that’s right) with Mats. Goodness knows I’ve enjoyed it!
I think it’s cute the Sedins want to stay together, but to insist that they both get 7 mil a year has got to be crazy! It just wouldn’t be smart to have $14 million in cap space on the same line. This isn’t 2002! :D
On Heika’s blog somebody in the comments quoted a supposed Bob McKenzie report that Dallas offered a package of Ribeiro, Brunnstrom and Niskanen to Ottawa, but the Sens are concerned over Ribeiro’s heavy price tag. Of course that’s a ridiculous offer, so people were calling BS on it. The guy said he saw in on Bob’s twitter feed! Then another guy said yes, so did I! Then somebody finally told them that’s a fake twitter feed. In the meantime everybody’s in a panic.
So Heika’s next post is: “Ok. Enough of the silliness.” And proceeds to point out that the Stars don’t want Heatley, can’t use Heatley, and would never pay that for Heatley.
I love Heika.
Now watch them do that exact deal.
I guess I left out the “…for Heatley” part there. But y’all get the gist, right?
I always assumed they were just a draft gimmick by Brian Burke
Brian Burke use a draft gimmick…next you’ll say Mike Milbury would trade a franchise goaltender for practically nothing to draft a goaltender first overall who never quite lived up to the hype……never mind =)
Speaking of Brian Burke, Down Goes Brown (one of my new faves) had some of Burkie’s mic’d up conversations that TSN decided not to show.
Patty, that is hilarious. Even though they aren’t real, they could be. They ARE Burke. I just wonder what it was he really learned from Lou at Providence (or, from any of his professors at Harvard Law). Because Lou never says anything that tells you anything, and I can’t believe that Harvard Law encourages you to say anything that comes into your head.
And proceeds to point out that the Stars don’t want Heatley, can’t use Heatley, and would never pay that for Heatley.
It’s always nice this time of year to see someone thinking level-headedly! :D
Completely not hockey related, but that second pic of Mats has got me strolling down memory lane. I TOTALLY have a set of sheets that match that pillow case… Or whatever looks like s pillow case.
Even though they aren’t real, they could be.
That Glen Sather one has to be true! Hee hee!
Matt, that is indeed a pillow case! :D I love those bedsheets. I don’t know what I’m going to do when they fall apart and I have to buy new ones.
I’m pretty sure the convo with Joe Nieuwendyk has to be true, too. :P
That Glen Sather one has to be true!
Yeah…but I have to admit he seems unwilling to shell the $$$ out for his own free agents (see Antropov). His comments about the agent being unrealistic were interesting. However, they weren’t nearly as fun as Mad Mike’s comments about Ziggy Palffy’s agent “depriving a small village of a pretty good idiot”.
Sather must be waiting to overpay for some other team’s UFA.
Good morning, everyone! WOOOOOOOOO! I’m back at work! What fun!!!
Sigh.
How are we all doing today? (I was about to say “on this fine Monday”, but then I realized with no small excitement that it’s not Monday. Thrilling!)
How are we all doing today?
I was doing surprisingly well given that it’s my first day back after vacation until I had this exchange:
Customer: I need old cowboys.
Me: What do you need to know about old cowboys?
C: I need OLD COWBOYS!
Me: Yes, but… I need to know more than that about what you’re looking for. What kind of information do you need about old cowboys?
C: Information?! I don’t need information! I need a BOOK!!!
Me: A book about old cowboys.
C: Yeah. I checked it out and then returned it.
Me: Do you remember the title?
C: No. I checked it out and returned it. 20 years ago.
Me: Oh… OK, let me take a look…
C: Old cowboys! John Wayne!
Me: Do you need a book about movie cowboys or real cowboys?
C: John Wayne IS a real cowboy! [walks off]
Me: I’m going back on vacation.
I realized with no small excitement that it’s not Monday.
Score! This means I’m halfway through my work week! We get Friday off for the 4th of July.
How is everyone this morning? … And Lou was trained at Harvard Law?
John Wayne IS a real cowboy!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Honestly Pookie, did you really expect anything different today? :P
And I’m so excited that it’s only a three-day week! SWEET!
As for Lou, I can’t say I know his resume off-hand (other than that he invented Hockey East and was the AD at Providence who hired Rick Pitino), but that sounds about right for him. I mean, he is an evil genius, right? :P
I mean, he is an evil genius, right? :P
I thought all evil geniuses came from Harvard Law, so yeah, it fits!
C: John Wayne IS a real cowboy! [walks off]
WOW. If someone had mentioned old cowboys to me, I just would’ve been thinking of the Marlboro Man.
I’m so sorry, Pookie. If someone asked me to find a book they checked out twenty effing years ago, I’d probably throw a stapler at them.
If someone asked me to find a book they checked out twenty effing years ago, I’d probably throw a stapler at them.
This particular person is a new addition to the stable of regulars and I’m trying very hard to train him to ask questions in the form of some specific need rather than just walking up to me and saying simply, “Elvis Presley”. One of these days I’ll just answer, “No, Pierce Morehouse Patchett”. It’ll be like throwing a stapler at him but less likely to get me fired!
I thought all evil geniuses came from Harvard Law, so yeah, it fits!
Damn straight!
So unrelated to Lou (since it’s not like the Devils are going to sign any of them), I keep looking at the lists of UFAs for this summer, hoping I’ve overlooked some key interesting names. And every time I look, I rediscover exactly how boring this year’s crop of free agents is. Tomorrow isn’t going to be a very thrilling UFA Day, is it?
This means I’m halfway through my work week! We get Friday off for the 4th of July.
Same here. And I took Monday off to have an extra long weekend.
C: John Wayne IS a real cowboy!
Except when he was playing a soldier, that is.
And Lou was trained at Harvard Law?
No, Burke was. Burke played for Lou at Providence and his professors told Lou he was smart enough to get into Harvard Law. Lou, unlike most college coaches, told him he was going to study for the LSATs and do his best to get in. He got in.
I still can’t believe Burke (who runs his mouth at every opportunity) was a product of either one. I believe Harvard Law produces huge egos. But usually they know when to shut up. And Lou is a master of it.
Tomorrow isn’t going to be a very thrilling UFA Day, is it?
Hey, the way I see it, it’s already been a success — we’re not getting Bill Guerin! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Hey, the way I see it, it’s already been a success — we’re not getting Bill Guerin! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Yep, if you think about it, Holik retired and Guerin’s a Pen, there’s hope yet.
Tomorrow isn’t going to be a very thrilling UFA Day, is it?
I’m thinking there may be more trades that “holy cow, they signed WHO for HOW much?” deals.
No, Burke was.
Wow. That sound you heard? Was my jaw hitting the floor. Holy cow.
I hope tomorrow is an unthrilling UFA day for the Stars. I’m worried for Lehtinen and Zubov. I know they’re old and probably ready to go off to the glue farm, but I’m too sentimental to let those guys go.
Pookie throws verbal staplers!
Mirtle just tweeted that the Devils re-signed Oduya for 3 years at $3.5 million per.
Mirtle just tweeted that the Devils re-signed Oduya for 3 years at $3.5 million per.
So it’s now official? The Swdish press said he signed a few days ago, Lou denied it, then Lou said he thought they were close to a deal (at least that’s what the Star Ledger reported late yesterday).
but I’m too sentimental to let those guys go.
I know that feeling all too well. My advice is to get a hard, steely heart — you get too sentimental about old guys and you end up not having a leg to stand on when you rail against your favorite old guy losing his job to Brendan Shanahan. *A single Pando-colored tear trickles down my cheek* (Just kidding. Who can ever predict when their favorite washed-up old guy is going to lose his roster spot to an even MORE washed-up OLDER guy?)
And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! if the Oduya thing is true! (There have been some false starts on the Oduya news…)
I’m trying very hard to train him to ask questions in the form of some specific need rather than just walking up to me and saying simply, “Elvis Presley”.
I think the proper response to “Elvis Presley” is “Dead”.
(Just kidding. Who can ever predict when their favorite washed-up old guy is going to lose his roster spot to an even MORE washed-up OLDER guy?)
If Nieuwy does this to me, he is dead to me! Dead, I say! I may be a bitter, cranky, grudge-holding fan but at least I’m honest about it.
I think the proper response to “Elvis Presley” is “Dead”.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
So true. Someone probably forgot to send that man a telegram about Elvis!
I think the proper response to “Elvis Presley” is “Dead”.
Then how did I see him eating at the Waffle House in Florida??
I’m already having a horrible morning and it’s my day off. I’m trying to get all my paper work done for school. I went to a very large high school, about 100 years ago, with another girl who graduated with me and has the exact same name. It took them roughly 15 minutes to find my transcript and forward it on. My doctor’s office has the simple task of filling out a form saying that I got three shots when I was toddler and sign the fucking form. I’ve gone to two different colleges before this, so this goons have had to do this fucking thing two other damn times. It’s taken them five days, four phone calls and 156 hours of being on hold for them to finally get it done. Oh, and thanks MOM for fucking up the spelling of my name. Why couldn’t you have named me “Apple” or “Rainbow”? At least then I wouldn’t have to re-spell it 6 times per phone call.
*breathes*
Then how did I see him eating at the Waffle House in Florida??
They put hallucinogens in the food that are specifically designed to produce Elvis illusions.
mcguffers, that sounds like a horrible way to be spending your time! If it’s any help, I’m doing that “just back from vacation” drraaaaaaagging thing here at the office. I have no interest at all in mentally engaging with my surroundings. We just had a fire alarm, and I actually sat there for a few minutes wondering what the flashing lights and announcements to vacate the building really meant.
McGuffers, it is amazing, isn’t it? I was applying for jobs when I was unemployed a few years ago, I went to college over 20 years ago, they still wanted my college to verify my GPA (not just that I graduated, my GPA). They wanted my B-School GPA as well, and when I explained that the one I went to doesn’t give them anymore (because recruiters complained that too many of my classmates spent their interviews talking about their GPA’s), they just do Pass/Fail, people refused to believe me. But, they are a top-tier B-School and they don’t have GPA to report.
I would have massive problems with HR because they thought I was lying and I finally said, “Haven’t you had anyone apply from X program before? It’s been this way for a while?” and there would be stunned silence.
Mcguffers, I’m so sorry today is such a drag! Last year when I was re-applying for my scholarship after switching majors, I went through 3 weeks of saying “Yes, I am in fact Miss Mags. Yes, I know you spell it oddly.” before they believed me. I totally understand how you feel.
On a more cheerful note: Yay Johnny! Now please don’t suck out loud, ever again.
I actually sat there for a few minutes wondering what the flashing lights and announcements to vacate the building really meant.
We’ve had some fire alarms go off and no one ever moves to leave the building. We just bitch about the noise and get back to work. We’re all about safety here.
And my little Crunchy was the only Sabre invited to USA Hockey Olympic Training Camp. (It really needs a catchier name). But the Devils were really represented with Paulie, Zach and Langenbrunner.
They put hallucinogens in the food that are specifically designed to produce Elvis illusions.
I knew the loaded hash browns were a bad idea…
Thanks for the sympathy, guys! I feel much better after venting (and now that I have my form). And it could be worse. someone could have broken into my (non-existent) Twitter account and announced my death.
Ookies, first day back from vacation, er stay-cation, uh, er no-cation is always the worst. Maybe you should take a “Break-cation” a la the Dunkin Donuts commercial!
someone could have broken into my (non-existent) Twitter account and announced my death.
Did I miss something? Does that happen often?
On the upside (or maybe downside, it’s awful cliche) it does give you the right to use the phrase “reports of my death are greatly exaggerated” when talking to people…
Maybe you should take a “Break-cation” a la the Dunkin Donuts commercial!
Considering my lunch today is a turkey burger make with cilantro and garlic from our garden, and a homemade burger bun, it feels like a vacation! :D (Also, the 3-day week is reeeeally helping.)
Good morning/afternoon!
Gillis apparently flew to Sweden to give the soft peepers one last offer but apparently they’re going to test free agency. Tommorow will be a gong show! WOOOOOO. I hope somene takes good care of Matty.
Awwww VE Mats. So precious.
Hey alix! Did you have a good time in Montreal?
Schnookie, I really did! Man oh man. It was like a non stop bender of drinking, napping, smoking Paulie’s favourite thing, and walking around.
Thursday night I went to an after hours club and rolled out of there at 6 am. Went for breakfast and spilled my OJ all over the floor because I had been up for 24hrs+
Friday, got kicked out of a casino for being too drunk.
Partied with Whyshinski one night. He’s a really nice dude.
Yup. It was an adventure.
Friday, got kicked out of a casino for being too drunk.
Just like V.E. Mats! :D Glad you had a great time!
You partied with Wyshynski, alix?!?!
That’s so COOL! I’m glad to hear he’s not a jerk. Did you meat any other famous bloggers? Like RudyKelly? Heh.
Um… MEET any bloggers. Not meat any. I probably don’t need to hear any of those stories.
I probably don’t need to hear any of those stories.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
And I’m so glad you had such a great time, alix! (I’m also feeling old just listening to it all — it’s a good thing I stayed home. :P)
I probably don’t need to hear any of those stories.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Yeah, I’ll keep those on the down low.
Thanks, Pookie!
I met the Pension Plan Puppet guys. Went with wraparoundcurl and Sports and the City. But I guess Wysh was probs the most “famous”.
Schnookie, yeah. You definitely needed your party stamina. Heh. I’m going to be detoxing for like 2 days.
Alix, I’m so jealous you got to meet, much less party with, Wyshynski! It’s great that you had such a good time :D
I probably don’t need to hear any of those stories.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Sounds like you had an awesome time, alix.
I probably don’t need to hear any of those stories.
Saskatoon Airport, is that you? Don’t be shy!
Saskatoon Airport, is that you? Don’t be shy!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Saskatoon Airport, is that you? Don’t be shy!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! And yeah, Saskatoon Airport, you’re not fooling anybody.
Have they announced where next year’s draft is going to be? Because I wanna go. *Fingers crossed for Denver or Vancouver or some other cool place*
Have they announced where next year’s draft is going to be? Because I wanna go.
Not yet. There was a post about it on Puck Daddy… or maybe Mirtle wrote about it. Don’t remember.
I think I’ll start being jealous of all the people going to the draft now. That’ll spread it out over a whole year, so I don’t you know, scream in jealousy whenever Tweetdeck pings ;)
Good afternoon…I’m strangely happy for keeping Oduya! yay!
alix, that sounds like an awesome trip! A vacation isn’t a vacation until OJ is spilled and you’re ejected from a casino! And Patty, I totally want to use the phrase “meat a guy” from now on. As in, “I want to take Goose behind the barn and meat him.”
Mags, apparently someone hacked into Britney Spears’ twitter account and announced her death. Ah kids these days.
I’m totally psyched for Oduya re-signing! Who ever would have thunk it?
And Patty, I totally want to use the phrase “meat a guy” from now on. As in, “I want to take Goose behind the barn and meat him.”
Feel free! I wanna take RudyKelly behind the barn…
I heard a rumour a while ago it’s Philly…which ummm…meh.
Chicago might be in the running.
Congrats on Oduya! (I kind of wanted him for the Stars. Sigh.)
apparently someone hacked into Britney Spears’ twitter account and announced her death. Ah kids these days.
What with everyone dying lately, Britney would’ve been just another name in the crowd. Which she is anyway, if you’re looking at a crowd of loonies (of the non-Canadian variety).
I’m totally psyched for Oduya re-signing! Who ever would have thunk it?
I am too! But as previously stated: with the proviso that he doesn’t return to suckage.
Is it unfair that we’re all holding our breath waiting for Oduya to turn into a really good D-Man? I don’t think so. He always has a good +/-, and usually there are others back there that I would rather kill than him. (See: Mottau)
I heard a rumour a while ago it’s Philly…which ummm…meh.
Oooh, Philly? Really? That’s just a 45-minute drive for us!
Is it unfair that we’re all holding our breath waiting for Oduya to turn into a really good D-Man?
I’m pretty much ok with Johnny the way he is now. I mean, he has his moments of complete idiocy, but who doesn’t? And on average he’s been sort of good at what he does (I got the impression anyway, might be mistaken). Overall it’d be super nice if he were like, Nik Lidstrom, but that’s not exactly realistic. I can live with this state of being. However, should he return to the phase where he needed his stick taped to his hands, I will personally hotglue/staple/sew it in place.
Mags, that makes sense. He’s decent now. And he’s never gonna be Lidstrom. You’re right, if he can hold onto his stick, that would be nice.
Ookies, I gotta ask, is the draft more interesting in person? On TV, it’s like watching cement dry.
Is it unfair that we’re all holding our breath waiting for Oduya to turn into a really good D-Man? I don’t think so. He always has a good +/-, and usually there are others back there that I would rather kill than him. (See: Mottau)
I think it’s a sad reflection on the current state of the NHL that you have described why Johnny is worth 3 years and at least $3 million a year.
I bet this is what agents are currently using to describe players like JO to GMs:
“He always has a good +/-, and usually there are others back there that (you, your coaches, the media and your fan base, pick one or more of them) would rather kill than him.”
That gets the player $3 million per year if they are headed for UFA.
And I like JO. That’s the market.
Ookies, I gotta ask, is the draft more interesting in person? On TV, it’s like watching cement dry.
Dude, this year was the first time I’d watched the draft on TV, and it was shocking how not-even-remotely-worth-watching it was. In person it’s a lot more fun, but bear in mind, I’m saying it’s “a lot more fun” than “not-even-remotely-worth-watching”. Heh. I found the second day of the draft a lot more interesting than the first round. We got to sit down way close to the floor and watch all the comings and goings of all the draft people; it was kind of like those glass-bodied clocks, in that you could enjoy seeing how the mechanisms all worked. The first round we saw had a record number of trades, so that was fun — the crowd was huge and every time they announced a trade, everyone would get all excited. Everything else? Especially if you’re like we are, and don’t pay any attention to hockey prospects? Pretty damn dull. I think it’s fair to say that one draft in a person’s lifetime is plenty. :D
I bet this is what agents are currently using to describe players like JO to GMs
Sue, that’s funny, and true. I should be an agent!
I think it’s fair to say that one draft in a person’s lifetime is plenty. :D
If they ever have one in NJ, I’ll go.
I didn’t even make it to the second round. 10 am is too early. I think I was still drunk.
I’m pretty much ok with Johnny the way he is now.
Me too. I love that he and Paulie are the mighty d-pairing of not-quite-finishers-not-quite-stay-at-homers.
And…it’s pouring again. I don’t believe it.
I love that he and Paulie are the mighty d-pairing of not-quite-finishers-not-quite-stay-at-homers.
That’s what she said?
And…it’s pouring again. I don’t believe it.
I’m sorry. I’d trade you, for a few hours anyway. I burned my feet on the balcony this morning, the tiles were that hot.
Mcguffers around? Mirtle just tweeted about Komi and free agency.
When I attended the draft in Hartford (yeah it was THAT long ago) I too enjoyed the later rounds more than the first. I believe rounds 1 and 2 were the first day, maybe even 1 -3.
I did get to see Patrick Elias drafted in the 2nd round and Sheldon Souray drafted in the 3rd by the Devs. I distinctlly remeber Souray shaking Larry Robinson’s hand with a look on his face like, “Oh God, let some of this rub off.”
Of course I did also get to see Vadim Sharifijanov get drafted 25th overall by NJ. Who? Exactly.
I don’t know if I made it to the 9th round, but we also drafted Steve Sullivan.
Can you tell I’m looking stuff up now? Holy crap, I also got to see future 2003 Devils cup winners Oleg Tverdovsky and Jeff Friesen, 2nd and 11th overall. Who knew?
I burned my feet on the balcony this morning, the tiles were that hot.
Ouch! I can solve that by not going out.
The problem right now is that it is pouring and the thunderstorm is right overhead. So, I have 2 cats looking at me and meowing,”Make it stop”. If I had that kind of power, it wouldn’t have started. =)
Of course I did also get to see Vadim Sharifijanov get drafted 25th overall by NJ.
We palmed him off on Vancouver. I don’t recall for what. If Vancouver had any sense, a bag of used pucks.
Wow, Morgan, that was a pretty exciting draft to have seen! I hope someday I can look back all fondly on the day I saw Tedenby get drafted.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Heh.
I hope someday I can look back all fondly on the day I saw Tedenby get drafted.
BWUAHAHAHAHA! That’s rich! Oh Schnookie, you crack me up.
I’m looking forward to the day I can say I saw Patrice Cormier get drafted!
HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!
Heh.
I wonder how long it will take for Grrrreg to stop by (or if he’s just up and committed suicide already).
Gainey traded Higgins, a guy I understand is Montreal’s top prospect (Ryan McDonagh) and two other players to NY for Gomez and two players.
I’d really, really like to know what Sather has on Gainey.
I’d really, really like to know what Sather has on Gainey.
I’d say “cocaine and hookers”, but that appears to pretty normal in Montreal. I’d venture a guess it’s got something to do with goats.
I’d venture a guess it’s got something to do with goats.
Possibly.
Maybe all the family tragedies have just made Bob lose any hockey sense. He used to know better.
i think gomer must be way beyond mere despair…in montreal his every game, every period and every shift will be put under a microscope until he is truly miserable…HAHAHAHAHA
Gainey doesn’t seem to be the genius he’s always made out to be. Maybe we’ll see it years from now in hindsight.
I’m a little chapped that Sather gets to have the Gomez signing basically expunged from his record now. I wanted him to pay for it for the duration.
I have another question, if he continues to “fail” in Montreal, who will he blame there, the Devils (as he did in NY), the Rangers, or both?
Because we KNOW it can’t be him. And he won’t be stupid enough to blame his current GM/team (or will he…I forgot who I was discussing for a moment).
I’ve seen some Habs’ fan reaction and it’s not pretty. they weren’t happy with the trade when they thought it was Higgens for Gomez. But, they thought there might be something decent coming back to Montreal because, usually, to get a team to take a contract like that, you give something with it.
Then they found out about McDonagh. I don’t think Gainey should be seen in public in Montreal any time soon – unless he pulls off something very, very good in UFA.
I’m looking forward to the day I can say I saw Patrice Cormier get drafted!

I’m looking forward to the day I can say I saw that guy from Baskin-Robbins get drafted! No, wait. Not Baskin-Robbins…Russell Stover! That’s it. :P

And I just got up from a monster nap and haven’t cleared all the cobwebs yet. My initial reaction to the Gomez trade is equal parts “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” and “Wait, no fair!” On the one hand, boy things just aren’t getting any better for Gomer, are they? HAHAHAHAHA! On the other, stupid fucking Habs helping the Rangers out. The Rangers should have been stuck with that millstone for the rest of eternity. Hmph.
*sniffles* aw, Higgy :^(
*sad sigh* bye Komi :*^(
According to one of the Rangers’ beat writers, this means Heatley to NY, tonight. I have no idea if he’s correct, delusional, or it’s somewhere in between.

My condolences, mcguffers.
Why do I feel like this season’s going to suck for me already?
Oh, and a friend of mine suggested I get a job at a bar she knows where the Sabres go after games. I said I probably wouldn’t root for the Sabres after meeting some of them. Her response: “Yeah. Connolly’s a dick.”
It made me giggle.
Aw, mcguggs, that’s so sad!
And I’m so not sure about this Heatley thing. The whole situation is very troubling. Don’t tell me they can find a taker for Redden, too!
I think I’m going to avoid NHL.com for awhile.
on the bright side, I’m sure Higgins is probably kind of happy about the trade. Even though those guys really liked each other, he took a verbal lashing from Montreal (fans, press, rioters) so I’m sure he’s not shedding too many tears right now. But seriously? Terrorist face? WTF? Was the Rangers’ zamboni driver’s contract too much for the Habs? Cause I would’ve taken him.
Don’t tell me they can find a taker for Redden, too!
I haven’t heard that yet…just Ranger fans discussing when/how he could be exiled to Hartford to get his $$$ off the cap. I can’t imagine Ottawa would take him back.
If Sather manages to get someone to take Redden – who is clearly declining – he’s got to be casting voodoo spells over his fellow GMs.
Then again, Lou got the Sharks to take empty cap space that couldn’t be exiled to the minors, disguised as Malakhov, for a first round pick. It can be done. But, it was only $3.6M or something like that…but with a lower cap.
