The Ecstasy: Yay! We re-signed Oduya! Every time we’ve looked at the pending UFA lists in the last few months, his was the only name on there that set our hearts a-flutter. We would have been some very sad Ookies if he’d flown the coop, so thank goodness our very own Johnny Handsome remains our very own.
Also, Yay! Scott Gomez’s life is about to get a lot more miserable. Have fun playing for Jacques Martin, Gomer! And enjoy the scrutiny as you very expensively continue to not be Vinny Lecavalier. HAHAHAHAHA!
The Agony: Wait, someone actually took Gomez off Glen Sather’s hands? BOOOOOOO! That blows. What kind of world do we live in?

Schnookie:
…on the other, stupid fucking Habs helping the Rangers out. The Rangers should have been stuck with that millstone for the rest of eternity. Hmph.
you are very cruel, schnookie…i on the other hand are far more tolerant…i’d have been happy with gomer merely serving out the remaining 5 years of his 7 year contract with the rangers :D
And enjoy the scrutiny as you very expensively continue to not be Vinny Lecavalier.
That’s exactly what Higgins told him.
I imagine this is going to be the chapter in Higgy’s bio that he titles “That’s when I kicked my coke habit and switched to Meth.”
I have seen a summary of Gomer’s first interview with the Montreal media. Someone heard it on Team 990 (I guess that’s in Montreal. The part that was priceless was when he told them that he had to head back to his fishing trip because they were eating into his time and he assured a reporter who asked him about playing with a big contract that he wasn’t about the money.
Damn. I am going to have to make sure I find money in the budget for Center Ice next season. It’s a train wreck, waiting to happen.
BTW, Bouwmeester signed with Calgary. 5 years, $6.6 million per year cap hit. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283345
That’s not nearly as ridiculous as it could have been tomorrow. Now UFA day is gonna be boring! And I took a day off for it!
The teams are starting to realize that spending like a drunken sailor gets them into trouble down the line.
Then again, what do I know? I’m a fan of a team who’s general manager is taking part in an internet talk show during the first half hour of free agency instead of working the phones. Like he’d work them anyway, but perception is reality in some cases.
i’d have been happy with gomer merely serving out the remaining 5 years of his 7 year contract with the rangers
Isn’t that like an eternity? :P
I imagine this is going to be the chapter in Higgy’s bio that he titles “That’s when I kicked my coke habit and switched to Meth.”
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
So, I wonder, if tomorrow wasn’t a holiday in Canada already (Canada Day), would they make it one? If I worked out of our Toronto office, I’d have the day off!
I have the day off tomorrow and it’s going to be boring! BOO! :P
Hey now — Lou didn’t qualify Andy Greene! How boring can a UFA Day be when the homeless man’s Brian Rafalski is available? :P
the homeless man’s Brian Rafalski
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
That does make me feel better!
On ESPN right now: Our extremely hot USA men’s vollyball team. Schnikies. Tall+Hawt+Already wearing knee pads=Perfect Man.
Greene’s the homeless man’s Briiiiiiiiian Rafalski, please.
Patty,
If it gets to boring, just check this out and boring might not be so bad (either that or your blood pressure will go through the roof)

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Sheesh, American schools!
Why you gotta do that, Myra? WHY?!
Oh, by the way, I totally forgot to be relieved that Bouwmeester’s off the market! Now our newbie GM won’t offer him the moon.
The kid actually got it right. I really should listen to her on computer matters.
Can’t blame Myra for this one. She is playing Bunco. It was the dog’s ideal!
Myra’s Hub
Oooooh! Bunco is so fun! I played once, with my friend’s friends (she was the only one I knew) and I won the whole thing. That might be why they didn’t ask me back.
If it gets to boring, just check this out and boring might not be so bad (either that or your blood pressure will go through the roof)
Interestingly enough, the Chris Drury slide won’t load on my computer.
It was the dog’s ideal!
That dog is so dastardly!
That dog is dastardly and muttley! :P
(Most of y’all probably don’t get that one.)
Hoo-rah! Now Liz and I can wear our Oduya and Martin jerseys for at least one more year!
I got the dastardly and muttley ref. Well played, Patty (in Dallas) well played.
Thanks, Morgan! :D
Congrats on your jersey relevance!
TSN is claiming Heatley is about to go to Edmonton for Cogliano, Penner, and Smid.
If Heatley will waive the NTC for Edmonton. Amazing, the guy with the NTC demands to be traded, you’d think that would amount to waiving it, but apparently not, they still have to ask him.
Didn’t waive it. What a puunkkk.
Man, Heatley is a jerk. I love it (but if I didn’t so dislike the Sens I wouldn’t love it one bit).
Good morning, everyone!
I’m so glad that the Paulie/Oduya sweater pairing from stately Morgan & Liz Manor remains relevant! WOOOOOOOO!
Meanwhile, has there been any more insanity since I went to bed last night? Or is Gomez-to-Montreal as much insanity as a girl can hope for?
Good morning, everyone!
I, too, am glad that Liz can continue to be decked in current Devils gear! I’m also glad that today could end up with my old Gionta sweater being past history Devils gear. Heh heh heh.
Man, Heatley is a jerk. I love it
Hee hee! I love it too. How quickly that particular juggernaut crashed down to earth… It’s the Curse of Beating Brodeur, I’m tellin’ ya! :D
has there been any more insanity since I went to bed last night?
No actual insanity, but potential insanity has been reported by Greg W. as the Sabres having interest in either Erik Cole or Gionta.
No actual insanity, but potential insanity has been reported by Greg W. as the Sabres having interest in either Erik Cole or Gionta.
If the Sabres wind up with Gionta I am going to be so, so cranky.
Cole at least fills a need in a way even if his injury issues are a concern.
Meanwhile, has there been any more insanity since I went to bed last night?
I think the Devils did… something. But it didn’t look particularly insane.
Did Heater finally, really, truly nix the deal with Edmonton? If so, do y’all think he should be added to the tribe of doucherockets?
If the Sabres wind up with Gionta I am going to be so, so cranky.
Whyever would you be cranky about that? Brian Engblom keeps telling us Gio’s a proven forty-goal scorer! :P
You mean Gio’s not going to head straight to Montreal for an emotional reunion w/Gomer?
By the way, I just can’t stop laughing at Scott Gomez. I just love that it only took TWO YEARS for his dream of being a big star in New York to be crushed. I mean, I realize he’s still getting paid, and now he’s moved to a team buried under mountains of hookers and blow, so he’s probably pretty happy with the situation, but still! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
It’s the Curse of Beating Brodeur, I’m tellin’ ya! :D
Dude, you’re right! I forgot they’re mixed up in that, too! And Gomez is feeling it, too. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
By the way, I just can’t stop laughing at Scott Gomez.
That is pretty funny. :D He’ll learn next time to get more iron-clad NTC.
And Heatley will learn to get a LESS iron-clad one. (I’m holding out for official word that he’s refusing Edmonton, but when it comes I’d definitely consider him for the list, Mags. Even though I really liked him all this time and his turning out to be so petulant is not good.)
When Gomer first bought his condo in Manhattan, Liz looked up what it went for on a public records site, and let me tell you he’s screwed if he’s going to try and unload it in this real estate market. Oh, and good luck with the Montreal press.
* supressing giggles*
What time does Free Agency start? Is it in the afternoon or something?
I mean, I realize he’s still getting paid, and now he’s moved to a team buried under mountains of hookers and blow, so he’s probably pretty happy with the situation, but still!
I keep laughing this morning. The cats keep looking at me. I can’t help it.
If it weren’t for the fact that Sather got out from under some of his cap problems, I’d be laughing even more.
SG thought he was in the spotlight and under pressure in NY (and he pretty much flopped – except against NJ, but let’s set that aside), he’s experienced nothing yet. Yeah, the Ranger fans expected he’d play up to his contract but in the end, most New Yorkers had no idea who he was and the Rangers didn’t make the headlines all that often.
LOL. Welcome to the Habs, welcome to the Montreal fans, media, being unable to go anywhere and to them being on your case 24/7 unless you win the Cup. And then, you are given 1 day to enjoy it. And, welcome to yet another defensive system.
By the way, I just can’t stop laughing at Scott Gomez.
Me neither. It’s all so completely hilarious. I really hope he gets completely slaughtered (figuratively, of course)
The only one I’m worried about with this Gomer thing is Grrrreg. Poor guy. I’m not sure he’s going to like this at all.
I just love that it only took TWO YEARS for his dream of being a big star in New York to be crushed.
The icing on the cake is that they booted Avery and then brought him back; you know there’s no hope of that with Gomez. Tee heeeee.
Oh, and good luck with the Montreal press.
Gomez is going to turn into Jack Nicholson’s character from The Shining.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I hadn’t even CONSIDERED the situation with his condo! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I must be off my laughing-at-Gomer game.
If it weren’t for the fact that Sather got out from under some of his cap problems, I’d be laughing even more.
Yeah, that’s really the only gray cloud to be found on this silver lining. I was saying to Pookie last night that it kinda blows because I hate the Rangers way more than I could ever hate Gomez, but I don’t think I want to let that get in the way of my enjoyment of this. I mean, it’s just so hilarious! And that it’s a Jacques Martin team he’s going to, on top of the whole “flamed out in NY, now going to a REAL pressure cooker” aspect of it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *Happy sigh*
Also something Pookie and I were discussing last night — can you even BELIEVE this Scott Gomez is the same person as the kid we all loved back in 2000? I just can’t even reconcile what he is now with what he was then.
let me tell you he’s screwed if he’s going to try and unload it in this real estate market.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

That’s what really gets me. Teeheeheee, have fun with that, Gomer. Hehehehehehe.

I don’t get his comment that he was surprised that he was traded there because they weren’t on his list. Then again, this is Gomez. I’ve heard about his NTC, he gets to give the team he’s on a list of 3 teams that he WON’T go to after a certain date in June every year. So, yeah, if a team isn’t on his list, he CAN be traded there. So, why the surprise? Then again, it’s Gomez….
What time does Free Agency start? Is it in the afternoon or something?
The proof that many NHL GMs are insane starts at noon.
So, yeah, if a team isn’t on his list, he CAN be traded there. So, why the surprise? Then again, it’s Gomez….
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: He probably thought the teams he was naming were the teams he wanted to go to. Slats was like, “Just to clarify, you won’t go to Detroit or Pittsburgh? Waaaaaaiiiiiit… no, I think we’re all straight here. No need to clarify. I read you loud and clear, kid. We’ll make this work out…”

Hahaha! You don’t suppose he really gave them a list of teams he WANTED to go to, do you? And they carefully avoided them for his sake? Hahahaha!
Hahaha! You don’t suppose he really gave them a list of teams he WANTED to go to, do you? And they carefully avoided them for his sake? Hahahaha!
I have no idea. But I know how his NTC works. So, the Rangers were only obligated to obey the list of teams he told them he didn’t want to be traded to. And if he only gave them one list, the 1st three teams that were on it were the ones he wasn’t going to.
Anything after that they could ignore, and if he gave them a list after that of teams he wanted to go to they didn’t have to pay any attention to it.
Gomez appears to have no idea how his own contract works.

It’s an easy jab, but I don’t think Gomez knows how anything works.

True…and we could put him on a line with Derek Roy and Nathan Gerbe.
True…and we could put him on a line with Derek Roy and Nathan Gerbe.
I could see that working. They’re all so teensy the opposing team would A) not see them at all B) miss every attempt at stopping them.
let me tell you he’s screwed if he’s going to try and unload it in this real estate market.
It took Briere over a year-and-a-half to unload his McMansion in a not that hoity-toity subdivision, so I can only imagine the length of time that Gomer is going to be stuck with that NYC condo. Unless he uses it as a “vacation pad” or something.
True…and we could put him on a line with Derek Roy and Nathan Gerbe.
They’ll just skate through everyone’s legs.
Since nnon is fast approaching, I just want to fire off a quick prediction. I believe Kevin Weekes is resigning with the Devils. I have seen two articles lately where Weekes has talked about how important it is for him to be playing in Newark to give the local kids of color a role model to look up to. I don’t think these stories come out now if he was not seriously wanting to come back.
Just my two cents. As for everything else. Who knows? I do think Gio’s gone, ’cause the Devs have got 5 mil locked into Rolston and he’s got to play on a top two line, but still, who can say?
I would love for Weeksie to re-sign. I would love for Gio to go elsewhere just to get some fresh blood in. I am totally ambivalent about Madden. That’s my official stance.
The Sedins officially signed with Vancouver. 5 years at an average of $6.1 million per year for both of them.
And Chris Neil turned down Ottawa’s deal. Please let that rumor about him coming to Buffalo be fake.
The Sedins officially signed with Vancouver. 5 years at an average of $6.1 million per year for both of them.
I’m kind of happy about this. I am still absolutly amazed by the size of contracts (you’d think I’d be used to it by now) but I remember when Scott Stevens signed with St. Louis for something like $1 million a year in the early 1990s and it was considered outrageous. I’m old.
I like to see players stay with the team that drafted them.
I have seen two articles lately where Weekes has talked about how important it is for him to be playing in Newark to give the local kids of color a role model to look up to.
I would love for Weekes to stay with the Devils for that reason. He talked a lot about that being why he came to the team in the first place, and I’ve just thought he was the bee’s knees ever since. Of course, now he’ll probably pull a Rafalski… :P
The Sedins officially signed with Vancouver.
Soft peeping all around!
I’m glad the Sedins took the deal, too. It’s a lot, but it’s not crazy. And it’s not for 15 years.
I wonder what Scuderi’s gonna go for. And where.
Oh, by the way, Schnookie and mcguffers, I got my invite to the Stars Ice Girls auditions! Want me to forward it to you?
Are you serious, Patty! I’m SO in! I was thinking I was going to have to move to Anaheim, but I guess there might be Ice Girl possibilities all across the league!
If you were a Stars Ice Girl, we could get a million-dollar condo downtown!
Ohlund signed with Tampa. I’m so sorry, alix.
I’m so sorry, alix!
I’m sure he and your cousin will be fast friends and you’ll be able to hang with him for years!
Ohlund signed with Tampa. I’m so sorry, alix.
Shoot. Poor Alix.
Aw, alix, I’m so sorry!
I’m sure he and your cousin will be fast friends and you’ll be able to hang with him for years!
Oh my god, that’s a GREAT point! I’m sure he only signed there to get closer to alix!
Hossa’s supposedly close with Chicago. I still feel sorry for him, kinda. I am hoping he can bounce back from all that pressure he got in the Finals. I wouldn’t have minded him on the Stars one bit.
I’d love to know what salary Chicago is going to dump to make room for Hossa.
Is Chicago full up on cap space, Amy?
I kind of want them to re-sign Havlat. He’s one of my Twitter friends! :P
They look like they’ve got about 18ish to spend, but they have over $12 million tied up in Huet and Soupy alone.
Pookie and Schnookie, don’t pull a tendon rolling your eyes! :P
they have over $12 million tied up in Huet and Soupy alone.
Ooh, yikes. I keep forgetting about Huet. That was really a bad gamble there. :D
If they sign Hossa, they are stuck with Huet, I guess. Or, do they plan to exile him to the minors and go after another goalie?
Dude, where in the hell is Chicago hoping to find money for Hossa? I think they’re trying really hard to be our new tranny team, what with this aping the Flyers salary structure.
Maybe they’ll let Duncan Keith go when his contract comes up and the Stars can swoop in and get him. Like in a year or so. Not this year.
Well the colton Orr era is over in New York. He’s a Leaf now.
Some Rangers fans I know (ones I like, yes, I know that’s practically a sin) will be very upset about this.
Leafs fans should like Orr. Then again, Bruins fans liked him and so did Ranger fans. Most fans like a guy who can win a fight and sort of take a regular shift.
Maybe they’ll let Duncan Keith go when his contract comes up and the Stars can swoop in and get him.
No way! Duncs is all about coming to NJ next year! He’s totally quiet and mild-mannered! He’d definitely fit in with Paulie and Johnny Handsome!
OK, I can understand the Leafs signing Orr (and I can even sort of understand paying him a cap hit of $1 million per), but 4 years?
Colton Orr is one of those players I just can’t help but hear his name in my head in Sam Rosen’s voice. Consequently, I hate him with every fiber of my being. :P
Colton Orr is one of those players I just can’t help but hear his name in my head in Sam Rosen’s voice. Consequently, I hate him with every fiber of my being.
That’s a perfectly good reason, Schnookie. There are players on the Flyers that I hate just because I can recall Bobby Clarke picking them on draft day.
Thanks guys!
My first reaction was “OH GOD NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”
But I’m coming around OK. Tampa’s just working it to be my new favourite team. Draft my cousin, sunny climate, draft that ravishing Hedman, sign my fave player. It could have been worse. He could have been a Flame or a Ranger or a Duck or a Wild.
Yeah, alix, Tampa is really playing you, aren’t they? Next thing you know, they’ll be handing out free pot brownies.
Radek Dvorak re-signed with Florida. Until just now when they showed a picture of Dvorak, I had totally forgotten that I decided he was a hottie last spring. Good for him!
Schnookie, heeheehee! I can almost see it.
David Booth just re-signed with Florida. 6 years, $4.25 million per.
Kovalev’s agent denied reports that he re-signed in Montreal. Didn’t say he wasn’t considering it, but that he hadn’t actually signed.
Hey IPB! Long time no see. Life has been rather hectic, but the re-signing of Andy Greene has just made my Canada Day ;)…
Just wanted to share a story. Pops and I braved the weather and the mean streets of Newark for the Draft Party on Friday. Pops walked away with a game used Pando stick (from the night Marty got hurt, luckily, we’ve been injury free since the acquisition). I pulled a Paulie stick so it was a good night for us. I don’t really know what to do with a game used hockey stick other than stick it in the corner and let it catch dust but it is pretty cool I guess.
Is it October yet? The Mets have me on the brink and I would much rather pull my hair out over the Devils…
Sue, I’m watching NHL Live and EJ Hradek was reading a text from Kovalev’s agent right on the TV! It was pretty cool!
Hey Tim! Sounds like you guys made out like bandits at the Draft party! Awesome stick choices! (We have a game-used stick collection from our early days as fans. It’s sitting in a heap in our attic right now. Very useful tools, those game-used sticks. But they’re fun!)
If Hossa does go to Chicago (and there are continuing reports out of Canada, first TSN, then the CBC that it is going to happen) he really needs to write a book called, “My tour of the former US industrial heartland in search of the Stanley Cup”
Pittsburgh-Detroit-Chicago
Where will he go next? Toledo?
I want Lou to sign Travis already. I don’t like fretting over this. :(
Where will he go next? Toledo?
Good grief Hossa just likes to travel. I wonder where he will go next too.
12 years, $5.2 million per for Hossa in Chicago.
12 years…that’s insane.
Pierre claims Hossa causes a change in the balance of power in the West. Um…I don’t think other teams are that scared of Hossa.
Hossa’s the NHL doorknob.
12 years? What is this madness? Thanks for saying no to that for Hank Panky and Danny, Gillis.
12 years?!?!?!?!?!?!? Hossa would be 42 at the end of that sucker.
Where will he go next? Toledo?
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Toledo’s like, “We can’t wait for that Chicago deal to run out, so we can have our crack at a then 500-year-old Hossa! WOO HOO!”
The Mets have me on the brink
Tim, please don’t, not over the Mets. They just aren’t worth it. And I’m a Mets fan.
So, Greene didn’t become someone else’s probalem after all.
I’m not convinced the NHL will even be around in 12 years!
Matt Walker went from Chicago to Tampa Bay.
I’m not convinced the NHL will even be around in 12 years!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Not at the rate it’s going!
12 years, $5.2 million per for Hossa in Chicago.
HAHAHAHA!!! That’s awesome. I really hope next year is great for Chicago because when Kane, Toews, Keith, and Seabrook all come due for raises that team is totally boned.
And hey all! Long time no talk. Hope everyone is having a great Canada Day.
I’m not convinced the NHL will even be around in 12 years!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Well, if it is, Hossa’s got his bases covered.
And I’m secretly kinda happy about the Greene re-signing. I think I might be “d-man we’ve never seen before”-shy after the whole Havelid thing. I feel like at least I already know what I’m going to get from Greener, and that’s reassuring. :P
I really hope next year is great for Chicago because when Kane, Toews, Keith, and Seabrook all come due for raises that team is totally boned.
I’m calling dibs on Keith.
Hey, andrew!
Are the Sharks going to sign Roenick again?
I think I might be “d-man we’ve never seen before”-shy after the whole Havelid thing.
Crazy EJ Hradek was making that same point. How signing somebody you never lived with for these long deals is pretty risky. More risky than a team signing their own guy for the long deal.
I call dibs on my local little arrogant shithead. Regier seems to have a jones for signing the local guys. What’s one more in the fold?
I’m calling dibs on Keith.
Too late! I already did!
I’m calling dibs on Keith.
Are you sure? Keith is going to command, like, double the money that they’re throwing at Bouwmeester. Also, Bouwmeester is over rated.
Craig Anderson to Colorado for 2 years at $1.8m per. That is a fantastic deal for the Avs. He’ll probably take the starting job in a walk. Now they have cap room to continue bleeding money on Hannan and Smyth.
Too late! I already did!
Please! I called dibs on Keith AGES ago! I TOTALLY saw him first! He was an original Marauder. That means he was mine first. You need to find some other foxy RFA d-man to covet next summer. :PPPPP
Hey Patty!
Are the Sharks going to sign Roenick again?
Don’t know. It’s still a bit up in the air. Things are a bit crazy in tealtown, DW is throwing papers and staplers and shit right now. I wouldn’t mind having JR out there for one more year….at the league minimum, of course.
I call dibs on my local little arrogant shithead. Regier seems to have a jones for signing the local guys.
Boom. You said it Amy. I’d be alright with Kaner rocking the Sluggalo.
Isles have signed Roloson for 2 years to save them from having to prop Pretty Ricky up in the crease.
Craig Anderson to Colorado for 2 years at $1.8m per. That is a fantastic deal for the Avs.
And fantastic for me! Yahoo always auto-drafts me the Avs goalies! Woo-hoo! Things are looking up for the PanBoxers!
I TOTALLY saw him first! He was an original Marauder. That means he was mine first.
You can’t call shotgun until you’re in sight of the car!
Also, Bouwmeester is over rated.
I agree. I’m relieved the Stars didn’t go after him.
Panger just said something very profound. Talking about teams making splashes for the splash’s sake and not really getting the guy they wanted. He said, “Don’t marry yourself to a player you’re not in love with!”
You can’t call shotgun until you’re in sight of the car!
Oh yeah? WATCH ME! :PPPPPP
And I was about to say something about the Devils salary structure, and whether I’d mind if they threw bazillions of dollars at a guy like Duncan Keith (I think he’s really hott, so I probably wouldn’t mind, to be honest. Heh), and I suddenly found myself mentally running down the Devils roster. *Shudder*
And fantastic for me! Yahoo always auto-drafts me the Avs goalies!
That really has shackled the Panboxers over the past few years, hasn’t it? This is your year, Pookie!
Talking about teams making splashes for the splash’s sake and not really getting the guy they wanted.
*cough*Rangers*cough*
What? Like tying up $14 million on a 2nd line center and a 3rd line center is a bad idea? Psh.
and I suddenly found myself mentally running down the Devils roster. *Shudder*
Don’t look at the roster! *pushes Schookie away from her computer*
He said, “Don’t marry yourself to a player you’re not in love with!”
The problem is, Panger seems to be madly in love with an awful lot of players. Personally, I think Panger’s going to be starring in “Big Love – NHL”
The Isles have signed Roloson for two years. How’s that deal with Ricky Di going?
What? Like tying up $14 million on a 2nd line center and a 3rd line center is a bad idea? Psh.
Well, as long as Bob Gainey’s still running a team, there’ll be someone to help bail them out. Sigh.
Don’t look at the roster! *pushes Schookie away from her computer*
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: This is not the first time I’ve completely forgotten about Rolston and Zubrus. Like, to the point where I’m not entirely sure it’s true that they’re Devils when I’m reminded of them.
The Sabres just signed Montador. Is that good?
The Sabres just signed Montador. Is that good?
Hm. Good question.
The Sabres just signed Montador. Is that good?
Spec is that it’s the end of Spacek in the Buff.
Good lord. TSN claims that NJ is in the hunt for Nieds. Don’t do it, Lou. He’ll string you along, be unable to make up his frigging mind and in the end, he WON’T sign here.
Please…find an alternative. He doesn’t mean to do it, I understand. But, we know the dance by now and find an alternative.
The Sabres just signed Montador. Is that good?
That is good. Decent defensive defenseman. He did pretty well with the Ducks/Bruins last year and was a fixture on the Flames blueline during their cup run in 2004. Did you catch the terms?
Detroit just lost Kopecky to Chicago. Man, the Hawks are raiding the pantry aren’t they?
Spec is that it’s the end of Spacek in the Buff.
That would be kind of a drag. I like Spock, wouldn’t mind seeing him stay in Buffalo. I think he was a bit of a scapegoat in the last few years. He had 45 points last year…that’s no slouch.
Did you catch the terms?
Two years, $1.55 per, according to TSN.
Oh, and from what the Twitteratti are saying, Montador is like Timmy in the off-ice extracurricular department. This could be hours of fun for the blogging community!
This is your year, Pookie!
Damn straight! The rest of you might as well just not sign up. The Craig Andersoxers are going to go wire to wire.

Two years, $1.55 per, according to TSN.
Sounds good to me. Hopefully he’ll bring some toughness, help Rivet clear out the effing crease once in a while.
The Craig Andersoxers are going to go wire to wire.
That is easily the best team name I have ever heard.
Huh, Knuble to Washington and Brashear to the Rangers.
That is easily the best team name I have ever heard.
It’s going to be especially awesome when Yahoo auto-drafts for me Huet and… um… who’s another shitty WC back-up?
The Craig Andersoxers are going to go wire to wire.
Well, The Wonky Eyebrows might have a thing or two to say about that.
It’s going to be especially awesome when Yahoo auto-drafts for me Huet and… um… who’s another shitty WC back-up?
Whoever the Stars get, probably. :P
Pookie, if you don’t name your team the Craig Andersoxers, I’m never speaking to you again.
Brashear to the Rangers
That should be interesting…all those fans who were calling him evil incarnate will now start telling everyone he’s really misunderstood.
Whoever the Stars get, probably. :P
I was thinking it, but you’re saying it! :P
TSN says Scott Niedermayer is staying a Duck. Wheeewwww!
Pookie, if you don’t name your team the Craig Andersoxers, I’m never speaking to you again.
Great! The Good Time Family Fudd Band it is!

I’m having my Monty Python Oscar Wilde moment right now. I wish I’d thought of that!
TSN says Scott Niedermayer is staying a Duck. Wheeewwww!
I’d say something like “Thank heavens!” but what if Lou doesn’t have a Plan B? It wouldn’t be the first time. :P
Dudes, who the heck is Aaron Rome?
I didn’t want to dislike Chicago but now I do. Stupid Hossa.
Are the Sharks going to sign Roenick again?
The way things are going, Patty, the Stars will sign him and Scott Clemmensen currently. I’ll spend the rest of the season hemmoraging into my vodka-filled shot glasses.
what if Lou doesn’t have a Plan B
Lou’s Plan B is to stare at us until we get so uncomfortable that we all leave him alone.
On the bright side, at least I don’t have to pretend to love Scott Neiderdick next season.
Uhhh, Andy Greene is Plan B.

Uhhh, Andy Greene is Plan B.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I’m not sure which one I prefer. :P
(And I didn’t mean to imply that I wanted Lou to sign Nieder. I’m just imagining he’s like, “Welp, that was the guy I wanted. Now that he’s not available, I guess I’m done with free agency for this year…” :P)
I’ll spend the rest of the season hemmoraging into my vodka-filled shot glasses.

Brian Boucher makes a return as a Tranny Bride.
Brian Boucher makes a return as a Tranny Bride.
Bummer to see him leave SJ, but everyone knew it was happening. I hope Greiss is ready to step into the spotlight when the fans inevitably kill Nabokov.
I love it. TSN just called Gomez “A huge problem for Montreal” and he hasn’t even played a game for them yet. Hey, I agree with everything that was said, but Scott hasn’t hit the ice for the Habs yet. Once again, welcome to Montreal, Scotty.
Spacek to the Habs for get this 3 years $11.5 mil.
I leave my desk to get a FedEx and find out Spacek’s gone. He’s good, but not that good. Now go find another big mean snarly d-man, Darcy!
Biron hasn’t hooked on anywhere yet, has he?
Biron hasn’t hooked on anywhere yet, has he?
Nope. Both Edmonton and Toronto needs goalies. I’m sure he’ll be playing somewhere.
OK, maybe not Edmonton. Apparently Khabibulin is headed there.
First question for Bouwmeester in his press conference and I’m nodding off. :D
Yeah, Bouwmeester may be a fine strapping Western Canadian lad, but he really redefines “boring hockey player”.
Clemmer just got three years at 1.2 million per from the Panthers.
Well, good for him. We don’t have to listen to him now, so good for us.
1.2 mil for Clemmer. Wow. Good for him. But still…
Dude, if Clemmensen is going, who the hell are we going to get as back-up goalie? Please don’t tell me that Eddie Belfour’s been calling his old friend Joe, begging for a job.
Surely Belfour’s going back to Chicago. Tee hee.
Is Gainey printing money in the basement of the Bell Center? Hal Gill just signed with them.
1.2 mil for Clemmer. Wow. Good for him. But still…
Hey, they’re an AHL caliber club, right? He’ll fit right in!
Please don’t tell me that Eddie Belfour’s been calling his old friend Joe, begging for a job.
Surely Belfour’s going back to Chicago.
Ha. He can’t be bothered to pull himself from the bottom of the bottle of scotch that he’s currently working on. Lousy drunk.
Rupper signed with the Pens.
Rupp went to the Pens. I won’t miss him.
Number 17 is open again. Petr Sykora anyone?
Dives for cover.
Is Gainey printing money in the basement of the Bell Center? Hal Gill just signed with them.
Maybe that means the Pens will sign Bouche!
Rupper signed with the Pens.
Dang it.
Wait. Is Rupper a defenseman?
Rupp went to the Pens. I won’t miss him.
I will! Who will man the dressing room suggestion box now?!? OK, seriously, I liked Rupp. I thought he was a good fourth liner. He was tough enough to be Zach’s henchman without needing a goonier player like Janssen and without needing a good player like Clarkson racking up 5 min majors.
Hal Gill just signed with them.
He can barely skate anymore. He was OK in the Finals because they stopped calling obstruction.
He can’t be bothered to pull himself from the bottom of the bottle of scotch that he’s currently working on. Lousy drunk.
Surprisingly, he’s back in Texas working out and trying to find a goalie job. No lie. I know this because I saw it on Heika’s blog the other day; ergo, it MUST be true.
I would go a step further and categorize Eddie Belfour as a lousy drunk and a plain, shitty human being. I am probably one of the few in Dallas that doesn’t love Eddie the Eagle to pieces.
Tranny-brides just signed Laperriere.
So… Laperriere, Boucher, Pronger. Is Bobby Clarke running the Flyers again?
Petr Sykora anyone?
NOT. FUNNY. Not even REMOTELY funny.
Is Rupper a defenseman?
No, he’s the fourth liner folk hero who scored the Cup winner in 2003.
Tranny-brides just signed Laperriere.
That’s just nasty. Eww!
Ok if Gill and Spacek went to Montreal, then Komisarek is gone and going to get paid a crap load of cash. Therefore, ergo, i.e., to wit will not be signing in Newark.
I know this because I saw it on Heika’s blog the other day; ergo, it MUST be true.
Damn straight! :D
Also, I’m not a fan of Belfour’s either. There is NO WAY he’s in shape to be an NHL goalie.
No, he’s the fourth liner folk hero who scored the Cup winner in 2003.
I remembered the folk hero part, but not the fourth liner part. :D
I kind of like Laperriere. *ducks tomatoes*
Wait. Is Rupper a defenseman?
Nope. Ostensibly he’s a forward. Once they thought he’d be a power forward but mostly he fights – willingly, I admit. And he’s a decent human being.
Pookie’s description is basically accurate but if he was going to make over $800k per for 2 years it wasn’t worth it:
He was tough enough to be Zach’s henchman without needing a goonier player like Janssen and without needing a good player like Clarkson racking up 5 min majors.
He spent a lot of time in the penalty box.
I still think Lou should send Larry Robinson and Scott Stevens over to Komisarek’s house to say, “Son, you can sign for whatever you want wherever you want, but we can teach you how to be great.”
Is Bobby Clarke running the Flyers again?
It’s a possibility. Clarke resigned from his job as GM but was actually back with the team in some capacity about 4 to 6 weeks later. I always thought his wife called Ed Snyder and said that Bobby hadn’t been home on a regular basis since the summers when he was a player and if he was around the house she might kill him, so he needed a job that would get him out of the house.
Clemmer to Florida!
I was never sure if I was hoping the Stars would sign him as a backup, or hoping they wouldn’t.
I am probably one of the few in Dallas that doesn’t love Eddie the Eagle to pieces.
Also, I’m not a fan of Belfour’s either.
Two Dallas fans who don’t like Belfour? That’s insane! But I’m glad to hear it. He’s a dick. Not only because of the ‘99 SCF, but because he also burned the Sharks hard the year before. Bah!
Weren’t the Tranny Brides already over the cap with the Pronger trade, adding IL just puts them further over. I guess they can be about $5.6M over, because you can be 10% over the cap over the summer.
Not only because of the ‘99 SCF, but because he also burned the Sharks hard the year before.
Well, those are a couple of the rare things I liked about him. :P
Lou’s schedule for the rest of the day:
5:00 – Re-sign Bobby Holik
5:15 – Blow-off Reporters with non-answers
5:30 – Re-sign John Madden
5:35 – Sandwich
5:40 – Blow-off Reporters with non-answers
5:45 – Nap
6:30 – Explain to reporters why we didn’t pursue other free agents.
6:35 – Go home
Well, those are a couple of the rare things I liked about him. :P
Ha! I bet they are!
I love this picture of Gill and LaRose.
“Son, you can sign for whatever you want wherever you want, but we can teach you how to be great.”
Paulie Martin and Oduya are like, “Hey! When do we get to learn to be great?” Heh.
:^:::::::::::::: to Lou’s schedule!
I still think Lou should send Larry Robinson and Scott Stevens over to Komisarek’s house to say, “Son, you can sign for whatever you want wherever you want, but we can teach you how to be great.”
I can just picture how that conversation would go.
LR: Son, you can sign for… for… oh, Jeebus… where’s your bathroom? *runs off clutching his stomach*
SS: *Glares*
MK: …
SS: *Blinks angrily*
MK: …stop that. It’s creepy.
SS: What were we talking about?
MK: Fuck this, I’m signing with Boston.
Hmmmm….this should make Habs fans happier…Cammalleri to Montreal, 5 years, $6 million per.
MK: Fuck this, I’m signing with Boston.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Some things shouldn’t be allowed to happen, Vernon Fiddler has left Nashville. He’s signed with Phoenix, but that’s not the point. Someone named Fiddler belongs in Nashville.
MK: Fuck this, I’m signing with Boston.
:^::::::::::: Or you know, with Toronto
Someone named Fiddler belongs in Nashville.
:^::::::::::::::::: So wrong, yet so right.
Lose Higgins to Rangers. Bad.
Lose Spacho. Bad. To the Habs. Not Bad.
Habs get Cammalleri. Good.
Habs resign Kovi. Ok.
Sabres get some Bruin. Eh.
Rumor about Komi signing with the Leafs… When’s basketball start?
Habs resign Kovi. Ok.
Did they re-sign Kovi? His agent denied it. Did it happen later in the day?
Why the bloody heck did that link not work? Let’s try again. Mirtle says Komi has been snared by Burkie.
Yes, Mike K. has signed with Totonto. The last thing TSN’s Free Agent Frenzy did before signing off the air was gloat about how Burke was getting his kind of players and sticking it to Montreal and Ottawa (not that I think the 1st round draft pick was really his kind of player, but he liked sticking it to Ottawa).
It occurs to me that I don’t want Burke to get anything he wants.
Did they re-sign Kovi? His agent denied it. Did it happen later in the day?
I rechecked. You’re right. I think I saw they tried to resign him. I just got home and I’m trying to soak all this in. Last year was much more peaceful!
The Leafs.

hey all! any hockey news today?
I won’t even make any Looch jokes about Komi for a full week because I feel that badly for you.
A whole week?! Now THAT’S love!! :D
Thanks, Patty. I’m still catching up on the comments, but I just got to your invite to the Ice Dancers in Dallas. I’m so there! Get me away from these Northeastern Ass Clown teams dammit!
In AHL news, Ted Nolan is the new VP of hockey operations for the Rochester Amerks. Meh.
any hockey news today?
Yeah! The Devils re-signed Andy Greene! It was a thrill-a-minute UFA day! :P
hey all! any hockey news today?
None. It’s like the sport disappeared somewhere beyond Pluto.
Hey, it’s just occurred to me no one’s signed Gionta. Weird.
According to Gulitti, Gio’s agent said there had been multiple offers. Who knows..
Hey, it’s just occurred to me no one’s signed Gionta. Weird.
Perhaps it’s because nobody can find him. He’s awful small, and easy to miss after all.
(I’m very much with the easy humour today. I’m sorry)
I took a look at Battle of NY and they heard rumors that Lou is trying to sign Derek Morris. I wouldn’t be thrilled – even if it would force Greene to sit. However, since the rumor came from Stan Fischler (even though both Derek Felix and I have worked with Stan and we know he’s not quite the clown he’s made out to be) I’m not sure how to judge it.
I know the NJ blueline needs an upgrade. Maybe Morris was Plan B. If that was it, it wasn’t a great one.
We still don’t have a goalie. I’m picturing Les Jackson and Brian Burke in Sweden, each trying to knock the other guy down while they struggle to ring Gustavsson’s doorbell. :D

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The bouquets of roses they brought for him would get all tattered in the struggle to get to the door first…
Gaborik to the Rangers. Five years, 5.75 per.

Sounds like we’re just one Katherine Heigl appearance short of a romantic comedy.
Gaborik to the Rangers. Five years, 5.75 per.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Now if only they had a playmaking center…
They’re saying 7.5 per, now.
And Gionta to the Habs with the mythical 5/25 deal.
Have these GMs not learned that spending like a drunken sailor just gets you into trouble in a couple of years?
Rangers will probably put Gaborik with Dubinsky. It won’t be awful. It won’t be brilliant, but it won’t be awful.
And Gionta to the Habs with the mythical 5/25 deal.
I figured he’d go to Montreal once they traded for Gomez. But not for 5 years – and not that much per year.
Awww! Gio and Gomer, together again! Heh. I hope it helps Gomer score enough points that the Rangers regret letting him go. :P
But not for 5 years – and not that much per year.
Yeeeeeah. It makes me think maybe Brian Engblom is their director of scouting or something.
I mean, Lou paid him $4 million per after his 48 goal season – I know he was an RFA then, but NJ was up against the cap, waiting to hear about what they could do with the Mogilny and Malakhov contracts and Philly was calling Gionta’s agent, letting him know they were willing to offer him more than NJ could offer, at any time, with an offer sheet.
And now, he gets 5/5. GM’s are crazy.
I’m up from my nap. Komisarek really is a Leaf. I guess it’s good that’s real because I’d hate to know what would cause me to have such a fucked up nightmare.
as someone said to me some time ago, gaborik will be interesting to watch and to listen to on his between period interviews on MSG all the while he’s weariing his non-hockey clothing ’cause he is on the injured reserve :D
Aww, mcguffers, I’m so, so, so sorry!
gaborik will be interesting to watch and to listen to on his between period interviews on MSG all the while he’s weariing his non-hockey clothing ’cause he is on the injured reserve
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Yeah, I was vaguely concerned when the Gomez deal went down that Slats was learning how to be an effective GM, but I guess today’s Rangers signings have blown that theory all to hell. Heh.
Oh, and I see what an uproar the moving on of John Madden has caused here at IPB. I’m like, “Wait, he was still our property? I thought we’d ceded him immediately after G7 against Carolina.”
I’m at peace. I figure it’s pretty hypocritical of me to mock the Montreal media and inhabitants from almost 400 miles away, and then not understand why some guy who’s getting tortured by them wouldn’t want to leave. Besides Toronto’s closer to Buffalo. It’ll be easier to stalk him :^) (I’m sort of an optimist when I want to be.)
Besides Toronto’s closer to Buffalo. It’ll be easier to stalk him
That’s the spirit! And he’ll be so depressed about the fact that he’s a Leaf that he’ll be desperately hoping for a fetching aspiring-Ice Girl stalker to spirit him away from his glum, pathetic life. I think this can only end well!
Way to find the bright side mcguffers!
I see what an uproar the moving on of John Madden has caused here at IPB.
I think we knew he wasn’t coming back…and there’s really nothing in his deal to surprise me (hey, it’s not the one Gionta got!). Hope he does well in Chicago.
Funniest comment I’ve read on Habs stuff so far:
“Oh man! We ARE the new Devils!”
My tranny team isn’t looking so tranny anymore.
Funniest comment I’ve read on Habs stuff so far:
“Oh man! We ARE the new Devils!”
HA!
Well, except that Lou never spent that much money on those two.
Hi, IPB! *waves*
If I never read another comment on F&I it will be too soon.
Hey, Frisby! What’s going on over at F&I? I have a hard time reading the comments over there just because there are so many people over there who I suspect don’t end every Devils game with a soldering iron in their eye. It seems to foreign to me! I distrust it. Heh.
Hey Frisby! I was over on F&I a bit this evening, and holy crap. What is WRONG with those people????
I have no idea what is WRONG with those people! I look down the list of signings today and almost every single one of them fits into one (or more) of three categories:
A) Too much money
B) Too long of a deal
C) Too risky
Those “fans” over at F&I a couple of seasons ago were screaming for Vrana,Vrana,Vrana and have recently been complaining about Zubrus and Rolston being overpaid. Now that Lou is letting people go and saying he has players in the system to bring up to replace them they are all still bitching. I want to smack them in the face with a fish.
I want to smack them in the face with a fish.
I want to start with that and just keep moving up the pain scale. :P
And seriously, was there a SINGLE signing today that we can look at and say, “I wish that was us”?
*Looks down the list again just to make sure*
Nope, not a one. Not even any maybe’s.
Nope, not a one. Not even any maybe’s.
We clearly aren’t nearly irrational enough to comment over at F&I, are we?
I want to smack them in the face with a fish.
I want to start with that and just keep moving up the pain scale. :P
I want to start with that and keep moving up the food chain:
Fish (bass, catfish, etc.)
Coelacanth
Nurse shark
Squid
Dolphin
Fishing trawler

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
And for the record, I think they overpaid for Oduya. Not by a significant margin, but still overpaid. I’m willing to chalk that up as the price to pay to keep from getting into a bidding war and getting return from an investment.
Good morning, IPB! Happy second day of free agency to all!
I’m really intrigued by what’s going on with Havlat. Dude sounds like he’s ready to burn some bridges with the Blackhawks.
I’m really intrigued by what’s going on with Havlat. Dude sounds like he’s ready to burn some bridges with the Blackhawks.
I wonder if it was more than just getting kicked to the curb for Hossa and his insane contract – when the team looks like it’s getting ready to win (except for the goaltending).
But, yeah. Except for the fact that Central Europeans and NHL players generally don’t do it, I’m expecting him to go on Oprah.
Fishing trawler
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I think based on your recommendations, I’ll skip the Fire & Ice comments today.
Good morning, everyone!
As for Havlat, the panickers on F&I were all discussing (in as much as you can call “hysterical hyperventilation” a “discussion”) how the Devils now don’t have a second-line center (as if they did last year — sorry, but neither Madden nor Gio was filling that role, but again, these are people who need to be slapped in the face with a fishing trawler), and Havlat and Patty are BFFs, ergo, Havlat’s going to be a Devil. Never mind the fact that Havlat isn’t a center… So if you want to go by the word of crazy and generally mentally incompetent Devils fans, the Havlat question has already been answered. :P
In re Havalt: Argeed Snookie. Not a center. There are plenty of stop gap center solutions out there. Robert Lang, Justin Williams etc.
Now Lou is also talking about signing someone on the Devils reserve list, and I wonder are we looking at the return of Sergei Brylin? Do the Devs still have his NHL rights?
Hm. Brylin? Now that you mention it, I can’t see how that WOULDN’T happen, considering how Lou’s been running the team the last year. Heh.
Oh come on! Who wouldn’t be fired up for the Pando-Pelley-Sarge line!
Awkward silence…
Who wouldn’t be fired up for the Pando-Pelley-Sarge line!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: When you put it that way, I can’t WAIT for next season!
And I can’t believe Havlat signed with the Wild. Doesn’t he read Fire & Ice? He was supposed to be OURS! :P
The mystery player is: Ikka Pikkarainen. He is a Finnish tough guy. I kid you not.
Wait, what? Sigh. The life of the Devils fan is a flat, unwinding road, isn’t it?

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I’m happy to say, though, that we’ve already written our 2009-2010 season preview for IPB. Thanks to nothing ever changing for the Devils, we know EXACTLY what’s going to happen this coming year. So now we don’t have any blog homework to do until game diary time starts up again! :P
(And speaking of having no homework to do, how’s summer vacation treating you, Mags? :D)
Morning everyone! I just burned my calf with my hot tea. Yeah. That’s right. My calf. As in back of leg below the knee, not baby cow. I’ll let you ponder that one.
And speaking of having no homework to do, how’s summer vacation treating you, Mags? :D
It was a bit of a nightmare at first! I’m so used to schedules, appointments and assignments that I wasn’t sure what to do with myself for most of the day. I woke up at 6 am, ready to go running, before I realised that I didn’t have to. I didn’t have to get that in before I headed off to class. I could go running whenever I liked. It was bizarre. So I lounged around on my balcony reading and getting horribly sunburnt. I’m going to take my time to make dinner instead of rushing through it. Vacation is awesome.
Mcguffers, you are talented in ways no one else I know will ever be. It’s amazing. And I’m sorry. Does it hurt much?
I’m going to take my time to make dinner instead of rushing through it. Vacation is awesome.
WOO HOO! I’m so glad you’re enjoying a life of liesure! I actually feel that way every time the hockey season ends (because now that I’m a grown-up, that’s the only schedule I answer to :P); we get so into the languid napping lifestyle that by the end of the summer, we’re having dinner at 9 every night. Heh.
mcguggs, I am VERY impressed at your tea-drinking skills!
The life of the Devils fan is a flat, unwinding road, isn’t it?
Hey now! Maybe this Ikka kid will be pleasantly surprising!
If Lou thinks Ilkka Pikkarainen is the solution to the second line center issue he needs to seek medical help. I know he might bring some size and strength into the line-up but, essentially, he just replaced Rupp. Except I’m not sure Pikkarainen fights.
Somehow, when I was giving Eric medication last night, he scratched my face and I never noticed. That isn’t good.
Maybe this Ikka kid will be pleasantly surprising!
Maybe so, but do we really need another Arron Asham? :P
Mcguffers, you are talented in ways no one else I know will ever be.
That’s something else that is printed on my ice dancers resume. I amaze myself sometimes!
Somehow, when I was giving Eric medication last night, he scratched my face and I never noticed. That isn’t good.
We should start an IPB list of unusual injuries today. And no golf cart injuries. That one’s been used already.
I sadly have no mysterious or unusual injuries to report today, but I am staggeringly tired. For whatever that’s worth.
And that’s my story. Aren’t you glad I shared?
Maybe this Ikka kid will be pleasantly surprising!
I keep reading his name as Ikea. That can’t be good.
We should start an IPB list of unusual injuries today.
Concussion from a pork roast. My mother was placing a loaf of bread in the fridge, left the freezer door open, the stuff in the freezer shifted and the pork roast fell and conked her on the head. She was fine, but felt damn good cooking that roast for Sunday supper.
Amy, that’s amazing! To get beaned by a pork roast is one of my life goals! (Having already slipped on a banana peel. The falling frozen roast is the next slapstick high point I hope to hit.)
We should start an IPB list of unusual injuries today.
I have a scar under my lip from where I fell out of a trash can when I was 8.
This free agency thing is boring. Schnookie, I too am staggeringly tired. Yawn. Snooze. Snore.
Concussion from a pork roast.
Impressive. Really, really impressive.
I had the sun screen down a little too low and managed to walk into it not once, not twice, but three consecutive times. I have a bruise on my left eyebrow now. It’s really very sexy.
And I’m hungry. I felt you should know that.
I, too, am hungry. It’s terrible being us, isn’t it?
And the free agency thing promised to be boring long before it started because there are no interesting players involved. I mean, really. The Avs signed Craig Anderson? Oooooh. Thrilling.
I mean, really. The Avs signed Craig Anderson? Oooooh. Thrilling.
As future GM of the Craig Andersoxers, I would very much like it if you picked a different random signing to illustrate how boring UFA Day was, please! Like, say, Matt Walker going to TB or Greg Zanon going to Minnesota. Thank you.
It’s terrible being us, isn’t it?
Unimaginably awful, really.
Free agency has been a thrill a minute. I’m not sure I can cope. I might have to lie down and take a breather.
Antropov has apparently just agreed to some thing with Florida. Fascinating!
Truly, it is a dull, dull UFA period when, potentially, the most interesting stories are the idiotic trade that occured the night before or the petulant fool in Ottawa who demanded a trade and now won’t go.
Even the gig signings are: meh
So, the contracts are stupid. We’re used to that. It takes an extra level of stupidity to amaze us.
As future GM of the Craig Andersoxers, I would very much like it if you picked a different random signing to illustrate how boring UFA Day was, please!
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Sorry. And I should have picked Matt Walker or Greg Zanon, but I couldn’t remember what teams they signed with. Probably because I had literally not heard of either of those guys before yesterday. :P
I’m not sure I can cope. I might have to lie down and take a breather.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Good plan! You wouldn’t want to overtax yourself!
I have no idea what I was trying to write with the word “gig”, probably big.
Antropov has apparently just agreed to some thing with Florida. Fascinating!
Yeah, wasn’t he the one who’s agent was telling Sather, give my client $5 million a year or he’s going to Russia?
So, Florida has seceded and joined Russia now. Interesting!
Actually, it wasn’t Florida. He’s off to Atlanta for 4 years. $4 million per.
Actually, it wasn’t Florida. He’s off to Atlanta for 4 years. $4 million per.
I was misinformed *grumble*. Oh what the hell, Florida/Atlanta, big difference. Neither of them made the play offs in recent memory.
Florida, Atlanta, whatever — Antropov totally shifts the balance of power in the East! :P
Maybe he thought he was signing in the former Soviet/Russian Republic of Georgia. You just never know.
Antropov totally shifts the balance of power in the East! :P
I just about fell out when Pierre squealed that about Hossa in Chicago. :D
Hey, I was just put books in order on the shelf in the travel section and came across the books about NJ. One of them was titled “The Seven Wonders of New Jersey”, written in the late ’70s. It was split into seven natural wonders and seven built wonders. Guess what one of the built ones was? The Meadowlands Sports Complex! The book was raving about how the Giants and Cosmos play there and that there is word that when the arena is finished, it may feature an NBA and pro-hockey teams! :D
I just about fell out when Pierre squealed that about Hossa in Chicago.
So, when Havlat goes on a rampage to take revenge on Chicago, will he take out Pierre as well? (please, Marty, put us all out of our misery…we’ll testify for you, we swear!!!)
The Stars signed somebody! The Stars signed somebody!
Things. Are going to start happening to us. Now.

How fun! (Who are the Cosmos?)
(Who are the Cosmos?)
The soccer team Pele played on! I can’t remember what the name of the league was.
The Stars signed somebody!
Wait, what, who?!

Patty, anyone ever tell you that you do a pretty good Shatner impersonation?
Wait, what, who?!
I checked the awesome Trade Tracker page on TSN.ca and it said the Stars had signed Karlis Skrastins. A veteran defenseman, I hear.
A veteran defenseman, I hear.
This… doesn’t bode well for me, I don’t think.
$1.3 mil/year? Seriously? Who IS this dude?
I predict a trip to the liquor store is in my future.

Wasn’t he the regining NHL iron man for a long time? I think he set the NHL record for consecutive games by a denfenseman. So he’s got that going for him.
We’ll see. Hmph.
All I can tell right now from this roster photo I’m looking at is that we signed Viggo the Carpathian’s younger brother. Is this man the Scourge of Latvia?

From TSN: Dany Heatley felt ‘blindsided’ by the deal with Edmonton.
I think there are plenty of people who’d get in line to blindside him right now.
Peter MacNicol: “Yes, yes, a scourge, my lord!”

Start lining up the fishing trawlers.
I don’t have too much of a problem with Skrastins, but if they need a big defenseman that blocks shots, what’s wrong with Boucher? Nieuwy could SOOOOO get back in my good graces if he re-signed Boucher.
Does Dallas need to borrow the Statue of Liberty to unite the city in song? Or maybe after Skrastins creates a river of hate under the city, you guys can just trade him to the Rangers.
but if they need a big defenseman that blocks shots, what’s wrong with Boucher?
Remember, Nieuwy canned a perfectly good coach and brought in an asstard because he thought you needed a new direction.
That means it’s unlikely you’ll be re-acquiring former players (even if it was Hull who was throwing darts at the roster and said – OK, I’ll trade HIM today at the time). However, maybe that also means there will be no re-appearance of Belfour.

I don’t know. But I’m going to ask our arena music guy to play Jackie Wilson at every home game, just to be on the safe side.

I bet he could! (And he would be back in my good graces too; how sad is that? We haven’t even hit regular season yet and Nieuwy’s already out of favor. Ick.)
And, for this afternoon’s local weather report…no, no, wait…it’s pouring again.

And moving to the Dallas report, it was 102 degrees at noon. (I’m afraid to look now.)

Ugh. I’d rather have the rain.
Scuderi goes to Kings. 4 years, $13.6 total. So, almost $3.4M per.

Yowzers. That’s a good one. It was 105 or so last week out here. This week it has only been about 95 everyday, which is lovely. Certainly makes going for a run after work that much more challenging.

I will say this about all the deals since yesterday: I’m starting to feel a lot better about Oduya’s contract.

As for the weather, the KNMI (our weather people) have just informed me via the news that we’re experiencing a heat wave. Really? I hadn’t noticed. The 6 consecutive 25-30C days weren’t a dead giveaway. I love that that constitutes a heatwave though.
And now I run. Because I suspect everyone is about to kick my ass for our nice weather.

Haha. Proud product of the California public school system! Yeah, I was just messing around Mags. I figure if I’m ever in a position to need a C to F conversion, the innerwebs will take care of me. It’s not like it ever comes up in casual conversation.
Also, I would kill for some 75 degree weather.

I’m happy to play the role of the innerwebs today.
Also, I would kill for some 75 degree weather.
I think I might just start running again. Bye!
Tom Hicks had to borrow money to make the (Texas) Rangers payroll. This does not bode well.

Someone was willing to lend it to him? Which bank?? :P
<i.Which bank?? :P
The First Bank of the MLB. :D
Stupid tags.
One of them was titled “The Seven Wonders of New Jersey”, written in the late ’70s. It was split into seven natural wonders and seven built wonders.
and was IPB Manor listed under natural or built?
