We decided to try out the “make your own bokeh shapes” trick today, but sort of aimlessly. We really just wanted to see what the lights would look like, and are very excited to see what awesome pictures we can eventually create with this effect.

I’m almost that desperate, but “The Shield” is pretty good, so I think I’ll stick with that. Heh.

And that’s the dining room chandelier, not string lights. String lights will work better, but I figured I’d test the homemade lens hood first before bothering with lights. The string lights will happen, mark my words.

This picture is seriously cool. I’m blown away that a chandelier is what made those shapes.

And I watched all of a couple minutes of the scrimmage. It was so nice to see real hockey, but the repeated buffering of the feed did me in.

I love the picture but I’m with Patty, this whole bokeh thing is befuddling me. Not that that is very hard to do.

I watched a little of the scrimmage but the buffering thing did me in. It was pretty darn cool to see Morrow and Robi on the ice again. Not that I actually saw them do anything but it was still cool.

I want my hockey, now…

The homemade lens hood just makes it look like it does! I don’t understand the physics of SLRs but to get this effect, all you do is punch a hole (in this case, a decorative leaf punch hole) in black cardstock and fit that over the 50mm lens. Open it up to it’s widest aperture and away you go! (I was going to say the chandelier is normal shaped, but… it’s really not. Here’s a picture from pretty much the exact same vantage point as the one in this post: LINK.)

I think if I’d watched the scrimmage, I would have died from wanting hockey back. I watched a few of the press conference video thingies with Beaks and Milan and Getzi and the rest of the gang, and I could barely handle it!

The romo(u)rs are really silly on the Marleau front, like the Sharks are up against the cap so, Bergfors, Greene and a pick for Marleau. Then the Sharks could go get Heatley with the money they’d have.

I ain’t buyin’ it.

If Heaters does whine his way to SJ, I think the Vancouver deal just set up Cheechoo leaving to clear cap room for that, but again I think all this is kinda redonk.

I had no idea he had played for so many teams! And every one of those guys said he was just there for half a season.

I was also pretty shocked that Gretzky played only a half season in St. Louis. I figured it was years.
