Devils vs. Thrashers, 10/16/09 – Patty Party Open Thread!

There is much rejoicing at stately IPB Manor today because Patty is officially now (In New Jersey). We’ll be watching the Devils/Thrashers in real time and then the Stars/Bruins on tivo delay, while enjoying a bacchanal of staying up late, putting on make-up and talking about boys, as girls do at parties. So no game diary, but we’ll be here for an open thread.

Know what’s a downer about putting the bank line back together? Now instead of tote bags we have to make do with mini-lolipops. And all they ever have left are Rum Punch and question marks.

Clarkson tried to pass backwards, and the incredible challenge of it knocked him off his feet.

That was the most hilarious shift EVER. He was so desperate to do a wraparound, too, and the Thrashers looked to be the first team since he broke into the league to defend against that play. They just loaded up to the goalie’s right and let Clarkson wind himself down. Heh.

How sad is it that I think I’m developing a total fangirl crush on Clarkson? I may cringe every single time he tries to stuff the puck in on the wraparound, but it feels like he’s the only Devil who’s scoring when they need a big goal. Patty needs to recover from his mysterious lower-body surgery before Rob Niedermayer, Travis Zajac and David Clarkson become the driving force behind the Devils offense.

Two thoughts:

1. The first was typical of a certain kind of Devils’ period: one where they completely dominate play but still can’t score. At least Marty didn’t let a softy in.

2. Does anyone really think Marty offered to take the twins to Chuckie Cheese instead of the Thrashers’ game for their B-day due to superstition??? Please!!!! There’s FOOD involved!!!!

Is it possible to have dual citizenship in two player nations?

I think you can have citizenship in one player nation, and then you can apply for visas to other player nations. For example, my passport is for PaulieMartinNation, but I’m on a working visa to BeakerNation. :D

A couple of seasons ago, in a different league (far far away)I drafted Brodeur. After the first month I traded Marty for Miller and everybody thought I was crazy. I ended up winning that league (and Brodeur started playing a hell of a lot better).

Yeah, I’m really glad that I can’t draft Devils, because I would be sentimentally attached to them, but also completely convinced that my hanging on to them was dragging them down.

I haven’t done a fantasy league in a few season’s, but if the league I’m in doesn’t have specific rules on which player’s you can draft, I have one rule: No Rangers.

One year I had Jagr when he was a Cap and they traded him to the Rangers and he went on the block, immediately.

Am I the only one who noticed that Parise made sure he was, like, three feet away from the empty net before he finally shot the puck, lest he commit a Langer-like faux pas and miss. It’s incomprehensible to me that a team is 2-0 on the season in shoot outs can’t lob the puck into the empty net. When there’s no goalie actually defending it. Whatever.

And yay! Marty got a shutout! He actually looked like Marty tonight.

Meanwhile, my impression of the game is that Paulie was totally awesome tonight and Travis deserves a better group of forwards to be randomly shuffled amongst at his lunatic coach’s whim. That, and the Devils seem to have perfected the soul-killingly awful 5-on-3 PP. And Marty was really reassuringly excellent. And that’s my story. In case you were all wondering. That, and the fries in the Fire Lounge are shockingly tasty.
