So tonight we made one of our extremely rare trips to Newark to see a Devils game in person, and we brought Patty (In New Jersey) with us. As a special treat to reward her for traveling all the way from Dallas to watch them play, the Devils won 2-0 in what could definitely not be termed a barnburner. Of course, once the game was over it seemed the whole of it was greater than the sum of its parts as a hockey game, and the experience of being there in person was truly delightful. We’d write some kind of statbitty, analytical discussion of everything we saw, but it’s 12:30 in the morning, we’re exhausted, and it’s just a lot easier to put up all our pictures from the game. Because a picture’s worth a thousand words, right? Right?
We brought the Devils logo bokeh filter that Schnookie made up to the arena, and she had a blast taking it for a spin before skatearound.
Yes, we bought food from concession stands when we arrived at The Rawk tonight. And then we got to our seats and found out that “club seats” means you get free food. Whoops.
During skatearound.
We were pretty sure that Patty would have come all this way and we’d end up seeing Danis, so it was very exciting to see Marty lead the way out for skatearound.
From our seats, with the 18-250 at its zoomiest, we could just catch a glimpse of Chico in the broadcast booth. His rug looks so lifelike!
The wide angle view from our awesome, awesome seats.
Our seats were only accessible through the Fire Lounge. Who knew?! Life in the Fire Lounge is swanky and wonderful. If the arena weren’t a bajillion hours away, we could be easily talked back into season tickets if we could sit in section 18 all the time!
This is our favorite bit of artwork at the arena. If the Devils ever decide they don’t want it, we’ll take it off their hands.

You can take your cameras in the arena whenever you want? And free food. WHAT IS THAT? We pay $27 for a burger and a drink from the concession stand. And no cameras. There is no justice. My human rights have been violated.
I *HeArT* the Devils bokeh maker! That’s a nice touch, guys.
They don’t let you take cameras into Canucks games? What is that vileness? Those bastards! Not only did we take cameras into the game, we took extra lenses!
As for the free food, we were stunned. Of course, we also paid *garbled, muffled admission of an exorbitant amount of money* dollars for the seats. To call the food “free” is very misleading; it’s more a case of getting VERY pricey seats with which food is included. And we didn’t realize that until AFTER we’d spent $27 on drinks and crappy pizza. But don’t worry — we ate our money’s worth of free chicken fingers and fries and peanut butter cookies and soft pretzels too.
I am SO pleased with the Devils bokeh maker. I never in a million years thought I could manage an X-acto knife well enough to cut out a tiny, accurate little Devils logo that I’d drawn myself! I think you could TOTALLY do one with the Canucks logo, couldn’t you?
This first picture is great. And you look fantastic in front of this Devils wall!
And bravo for the shutout, I’m glad the devils did not decide to suck in front of you and Patty…
Did you see any Fire Clowns in the Fire Lounge?
It sounds like you guys are having a great time! I definitely would have taken the cost of the tickets out in peanut butter cookies. I think my teams lost yesterday, but I’ve been too drugged out to notice. And there’s no hockey today, so I’m gonna take a few more shots of Nyquil, and I’ll see everyone Monday! :D
Thanks, Grrrreg! I’m glad for them not sucking, too, because we’ve seen some real disasters in the last few years when we’ve accidentally ended up catching the Devils/Hurricanes.
And mcguffers, the only fire clowns in the Fire Lounge were us. Heh.
I’m sorry you’re not feeling well! I hope the Nyquil works wonders and you’re back up and at ‘em on Monday!
What fun! Club seats! Fire Clown Lounge! Shut Outs!
Uh Oh, Hub, we may be in trouble.
Hey Patty, maybe you should go watch the highlights of the Dallas Game again and again and again. Did we mention that Fistric played forward last night? Um, that Brunnstrom had a really good game and a very cute smile? That the Captain scored again? That you get to sit with us at every game?
Patty(in Jersey) is living the high life. Great Pictures. I’m jealous with you guys in the “club” at the Rawk and we are home listening on the radio because we don’t get the alternate FSSW channel.
Pookie,
Sorry about being so brutal about Huet since we weren’t expecting much from the Stars after last night. I guess that’s how the puck bounces.
By last night I mean Friday night.
It is DEFINITELY the high life around here. And I’m about to go make Patty some homemade buttermilk waffles for brunch before we head out to look at open houses. Heh. She’s SO not going back to Dallas. :P
Hub makes some fantastic homemade chocolate chip pancakes!
Schnookie’s homemade buttermilk waffles…Hmm.
On second thought, Hub, have you looked at any more job prospects (in Jersey)?

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: When you guys live next door to us, we can have brunch swaps, where Hub makes chocolate chip pancakes for us, and we make buttermilk waffles for you!
Fistric was playing forward? I heard Razor mention that a d-man was, but I assumed it was Woywitka. That’s so COOL! Did he do well? I will have to watch that game again when I get home.
The Rawk RAWKED! That was such a fun game! We rode the train and everything!
I took a few pics, too, but I will probably wait until I get home to post them all. I’m sure you’ll all be on pins and needles.
I didn’t get to actually see the game, Patty. It was on FSSW+ or something like that and FIOS doesn’t carry that channel. So I’m not sure how he did. I know in the previous game he was really showing his puck handling skills we know and love. :)
Oh! Brunch swaps! Oh, Hu-ub!
They don’t let you take cameras into Canucks games? What is that vileness?
Not only do they not let you bring big cameras to the game – they look through your backpacks. Ah boo!
Waffle brunch swaps? I want to move next door, too!
That is a really cute picture of the two of you.
they look through your backpacks.
They do that at Sabres games as well. Women’s purses are searched, men are patted down, and you have to walk through the ticket line with your coat unbuttoned and open, like you’re selling counterfeit watches. Do you know how difficult it is to do that and make sure nothing falls out of your purse at the same time?
We got wanded (that’s what she said!) and then they pawed through our camera bags, but they really didn’t mind the cameras at all.
And we just came back from looking at open houses. There are so many houses around here that are nicer than ours! BOOOO!
Wow ladies, the black seats! I’m impressed, you high rollers!
what kind of camera do you have? and how did you make and use the filter? I’m so intrigued and want to make one with the kings logo!
Staples Center lets you bring cameras as long as they’re not those super professional cameras.
I see we’re going to be Looch-less for a few weeks. He’s been put on LTIR w/a broken finger.
I’m impressed, you high rollers!
It was pretty darn fancy, I gotta say!
kms2, we have a Canon XSi, and we love it. (Although, I might start to hate it once I get a chance to play around with Patty’s XT1 that she brought with her. Heh.) Here are the directions for making your own NHL logo filter: LINK TO BOKEH FILTER INSTRUCTIONS. We actually don’t ever bother with making the lens hood; we just cut a piece of paper big enough to hang over the edge quite a bit and then we just hold it up in front of the lens while taking the picture. It works like a charm!

That’s a common problem when you don’t kill your lunch before eating it.
Happy Monday, everyone!
Good morning!

Excellent. I’ll give it a whirl – I was using electrical tape to hold it in place thinking I couldn’t have any light leaks. DUH.
Carol’s got a picture now! How spiffy!
Very swanky photo’s, -Ookies and Patty! I’m glad y’all had a good time at the game :)
cool bokeh. so you get the entire picture through a little hole in the paper? how that work? i believe you, but i dont believe it.
so the Devils put Corey Murphy on waivers.
that i believe.

that i believe.
And, although I agree with it, I am not more hopeful. Bleh. Double Bleh.
so the Devils put Corey Murphy on waivers.
that i believe.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: It’s the end of the Corey Murphy Era, eh? How sad. Heh.
And as for the bokeh trick, it SEEMS like it shouldn’t work, but then all of a sudden, if you’re like us and holding the “filter” up to the lens, you’ll hit it just right and it’s like the most amazing thing ever. It’s photography magic!
And we just got back from an exhaustingly delicious day in Princeton. Dude, lemme just say, this is WAY better than being at work.
I KNEW I saw you guys there on Saturday. But I didn’t stop and say “are you the Ookies” because I didn’t KNOW know and I woulda felt ridiculous if it weren’t actually you.
ZOMG Josh! You totally saw the Ookies IRL? SQUEEE! And Patty, too! I am jealous. Totes.
Also, I totally love that bit of Devils artwork as well, as it reminds me of my grade school notebooks. Seriously, I love that Devils logos as drawn by a 7th grader constitute art in the arena. Makes me wish I held onto mine.
Josh, are you kidding me? You saw us at the game and didn’t say anything? Curses! Next time, don’t be shy. And if you go up to some strangers, they should be FLATTERED that you thought they were us!

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I know, I know. I totally shoulda checked her before the game, then I woulda known, but the reason I wasn’t sure was because you guys are never at games!
At least you got Club Seats. I love Club Seats. I need to be rich one day, just to get season tickets there.
We actually forgot to say anything about going to the game ahead of time, so it was a big fat guessing game for everyone involved. Including us guessing about how much was included with our “club seats”. The tickets should come with an explanation about the free food!
And yeah, those seats are WAY nice. We were all, “We should TOTALLY get season tickets here!” Then we sobered up and laughed and laughed. :P
Chaz and I hit a Devils game last year on a hockey trifecta road trip. Credit Chaz Post from March 5, 2009. http://ishmtc.wordpress.com/page/4/
Anywho, enjoyed the game alot! Question for you – did the Devils do a Type-A, OCD thing and group all the pucks into a pile during warm-ups ?
