I figure he’s got a long way to go before I’m willing to consider that, but that’s just because I was all, “We don’t need Rafalski — we have ANDY GREENE!” however many years ago it was that we let Raffie go. And then Greene went ahead and made me look like a complete moron. Although I suppose now it’s fair to say it was Brent Sutter making Greene make me look like a complete moron. That Sutter guy sucked! :P (Anyway, Greene is only just now getting back up to what I thought was his baseline. Emperor-god status is a long way up from here. :P)

I remember the season before Lemaire was axed, I started working with a trainer to get in shape to play HS football. He was a big Rangers fan. He told me that season, when the Devils were on one of their ridiculous winning streaks. “They’re peaking too soon. They’ll have nothing left for the playoffs.” And it happened, and I grew to hate him, because now, every season, whenever the Devils start playing well I worry…. worry that it’s happening at the wrong time of year.

And it happened, and I grew to hate him, because now, every season, whenever the Devils start playing well I worry…. worry that it’s happening at the wrong time of year.

Yeah, that’s creeping into my mind too, but it seems like the Devils lately have two peaks a year. They have one kinda early after a slow start (or they come out of the gate like a house afire before Marty gets injured), and then they go on an unholy tear that ends in the second week of March. It’s the one that ends in the second week of March that always breaks my heart. (I’m not going to be a happy hockey fan if, in June, I’m sitting here thinking, “Too bad the Devils played their best hockey in October and November.” Like the Sabres in ‘06-’07.)

There’s nothing like a Rangers fan being right to make you second-guess good things happening to the Devils. Fucking Rangers. :D I don’t think they’re peaking too soon, because I think they’ll lose on Saturday, and then will fall back to Earth, particularly when they start getting guys back in the line-up. Then they’ll do they’re usual tearing it up in January and February. And then they’ll lose in the first round. See? Nothing to worry about!

So, being a Center Ice newbie and all, are there certain games that fall into some mysterious blackout zone? I went to watch some of the Devils game before starting Grey’s Anatomy and the game was nowhere to be found. Is it because Buffalo somehow falls into Pittsburgh’s market radius? If so, that’s a heck of a big market.

That’s so weird that the Devils/Pens game wasn’t available to you last night, Amy. Was it on NHL Network? That’s the only explanation I would be able to think of for why someone outside the Pittsburgh/Jersey markets would get blacked out on Center Ice… (Although the Center Ice/NHL Network people have a history of not really understanding where Pittsburgh is, as they had one Pens/Leafs game [from Toronto] last year where we were blacked out on Center Ice because we’re out-of-market and had to watch on NHL Network, but also blacked out on NHL Network because they decided parts of Central Jersey were in the Pittsburgh market and had to watch on our “local” sports channel. Ahhh, good times.)

Actually, that is the very reason why it was not on Center Ice. I’ll skip my normal whining about how I don’t have NHL Network and missed the game. What I will whine about though is that I knew ahead of time so I spent all night looking forward to the game diary, and there wasn’t one. I was so disappointed, crushed, devastated even.

This weekend is all about trying to get as much done on Schnookie’s Christmas quilt as possible. We’re at the very end of the portion that’s right before the beginning of the stretch run, so it’s all very exciting. It’s looking FANTASTIC!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Christmas shopping! That makes up for cleaning the garage. :D

We have had the most glum, gloomy, inexplicably-bad-moody week at stately IPB Manor. Just a lot of self-perpetuating misery for no good reason. So we’re making a concerted effort to level back up to our nomal state of merriment this weekend. Lots of manufactured fun like stitching and playing MarioKart (which will differ from our usual routine in that it will also include forced happiness :P). Actually, this weekend we will also be putting out the first wrapped Christmas presents. Yes, it’s jumping the gun, but one of them is time-sensitive and actually has to be opened on December 1, and we REALLY enjoy torturing each other by putting gifts on display and leaving the gift recipient to guess what it is for weeks and weeks. So if we want to do this with Boomer’s Dec. 1 gift, we need to get it wrapped and set out before too much longer. It’s an awesome, AWESOME present, so I can’t wait! :D

Oh nothing too crazy. We have a group of girlfriends that we always buy Hallmark ornaments for. I know, cheesy, but they have come to expect them from us now. It wouldn’t be Christmas without them.

Then on to Best Buy to get Rock Band for the Kid/Family and look for some other fun things.

I always hold out for Black Friday. For some reason, I think fighting crowds is fun and with websites like slickdeals, I can make a great plan of attack several days in advance.

And Ookies, I was talking to Santa today and he says you all should cheer up. The Devils are winning, Clemmensen is making an ass of himself in Florida and the holidays are coming. I could understand your sour mood if you watched the Devils last two games on the Ducks and Penguins broadcasts (like I had to) but you got to see Chuck the Duck! Santa also told me you should watch The Muppet Christmas Carol to get in the spirit of the season, although I always wait until December to watch.

I did Black Friday at a giant outlet mall once. While we ended up with some awesome stuff with crazy, crazy prices (we got four Williams Sonoma past dishes for like, $2), it was sooooo not worth it! I’m ever so thankful for online shopping! You’re a better shopper than I, Gunga Mike! :P
