You know what the best part about Thanksgiving weekend is?
Stuffins!
But you know what the second best part is? Wall-to-wall hockey. So join us please for an open thread for today’s hawt Devils/Islanders action, as well as all the other games on slate for Saturday night.

You know what the first shift of this game has taught me? It’s taught me that the Devils’ fourth line BLOWS. And you know what a 4-6 week injury to Clarkson means? More Egg and Peters. You know what more Egg and Peters means? More alcohol for me. Which is, I guess, not necessarily a bad thing…
Schnookie, can you pass some of that alcohol my way? I just got back from the mall and Macy’s looked like a bomb went off. The dress department was an explosion of satin, taffeta and whickety-whack trim.
Also, Gel-O needs to enunciate the word “shift” more. He said it, and my father and I both looked at each other an wondered if he said shit.
I just got back from the mall and Macy’s looked like a bomb went off. The dress department was an explosion of satin, taffeta and whickety-whack trim.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: You are SUCH a brave soul being out and about shopping this weekend!
And I have yet to not think Gel-O’s saying “shit” when he says “shift”. He’s been hosting our games for years, and I still think it every single time.
Oh, and WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Oh how the stuffins are calling to be. Would it be wrong to make stuffing just so i can make stuffins?
(and I have to compensate for Dad’s failure to make anywhere close to enough stuffing this year. I was heartbroken.)
and I have to compensate for Dad’s failure to make anywhere close to enough stuffing this year. I was heartbroken.
You have my DEEPEST sympathy. My greatest fear is ending up with too little stuffing at Thanksgiving. And that’s not hyperbole. That is by far my greatest fear. I don’t think it would be wrong at all to make stuffing just for stuffins. :D
And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoa. Halischuk looks even more like a Waldorf kid than Travis. Where is Lou finding these guys? :P
Okay, any time now that the Devils want to actually get those shots to go in the net works for me. Stupid goalposts. Grrr…
What’s with all these early games, Devils???
What’s with all these early games, Devils???
I know! This is fricking weird.
You’re telling me, Myra. I had to get out of bed early today to be up in time for a 1:00 start! :P (And that noon start yesterday was BRUTAL.)
Actually, back when we had season tickets, the Devils had a zillion Saturday matinees a year. Now they don’t have very many Saturday home games at all. This is the only Saturday matinee that they’re playing at home all year. Thanks for changing to this new schedule AFTER we gave up our tickets, Devils. ::Eyeroll:: (I hated the Saturday matinees, because we’d have to leave the house at 10:30 in the morning and wouldn’t get home until after 6. For one stupid hockey game. That’s, like, your entire weekend GONE!)
I’m not a big fan of afternoon games either. Especially not early afternoon.
I’m especially not a fan of early afternoon games when there is no other hockey until 7. I wanted to make marshmallows BEFORE the hockey, not BETWEEN it! Why didn’t the schedule-makers consider this??
I really thought the Devils had a 3rd goal. What happened to our 3rd goal? (And not the one that got waived off. I remember that. I was so sure someone like Bergfors had gotten one.)
There’s that 3rd goal! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I can’t believe the Devils managed to score on their game-losingly bad 5-on-3! Sure, it took the entire PK unit and the goalie losing their sticks, but I’m not complaining! (Yes I am complaining. But I’ll take the goal. :D)
I think that’s not how you draw up defending Zach.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! That’s the deadly combo of Zach and Andy “Game Over” Greene! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
And there’s that 5th goal I really had never thought the Devils had ever scored. Heh.
Did an Islander just punch and/or shove Zach after his goal, or am I seeing things?
Yowza! And the less-deadly combo of Applemotherfuckingsauce and Brian “Worst Hockey Player On Earth” Rolston! I love it! :D
hah, poor islanders
Did an Islander just punch and/or shove Zach after his goal, or am I seeing things?
He shoved him, but it was his attempt at making it look like he was playing defense, when actually he’d just been standing there watching Zach hammer away at those rebounds while saying stuff like, “Could you not do that? Could you please not try to score here?”
Jeez, I walk away to take a shower, and the Devils score 3 goals. Listen guys, I can’t stay in there all the time! I’ll get all pruney!
“Could you not do that? Could you please not try to score here?”
“I’m sorry, excuse me, I think I was here first!”
Listen guys, I can’t stay in there all the time! I’ll get all pruney!
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Well, one hopes that these three goals will be enough, so you took just enough shower for this game! :D
“I’m sorry, excuse me, I think I was here first!”
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This game is nutso! It’s been worth losing a whole afternoon! :D
The Islanders are SO ready for this game to be over
“Could you not do that? Could you please not try to score here?”
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
It’s now time to go get the Christmas tree!! Or, rather, it’s time for my father to get the tree, while I fight with 150 years of family heirlooms in a 6 ft by 6 ft storage unit.
Oh, and as long as Looch isn’t around, you guys are Bruin’s haters? *reapplies duct tape to his mouth and shoves him back in trunk* Good to know…
*reapplies duct tape to his mouth and shoves him back in trunk* Good to know…
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Have fun in the storage unit! I’m about to head up to the attic to get some of our Christmas stuff out!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Devils!!!! I loved this game! (Except the first period. I hated the first period. Heh.)
And that is SO exciting that the mcguggs family is getting out the Christmas decorations! I’m about to make marshmallows. And Old Fashioneds. The former is a Christmas-season thing, but not the latter. Heh.
I was all “Bah Humbug” to the incessant playing of Christmas music last week, but ornaments and marshmallows are making me all warm and fuzzy!! (Figuratively speaking. It’s -23 degrees here.)
Oh, and “Ms. McGuffers” made me giggle :D
Yay for a Devils win!
Also, DVR alert! Tonight is Sandra Lee’s first holiday special on HGTV. I don’t know how snarkworthy it’s going to be, since Sandy is helping a family throw a party for a family member returning from a stint in the Peace Corps.
I predict Sandy will go ethnic in the direction of whereever that lucky, lucky person was Peace-Corping. So very snarkworthy.
Oh, that’s right, Amy! Thanks for the reminder! The tivo is all set for it. I can’t wait!
Oh and I meant to add:
I predict Sandy will go ethnic in the direction of whereever that lucky, lucky person was Peace-Corping.
Totally! Like all those non-kosher Hannukah desserts she makes every year!
WOOOOOOOOO! Marshmallows made! Stuffin and Old Fashioned in hand! The living room bedecked with the first of the Christmas decorations! Sandy’s holiday show on HGTV tonight! Life is GRAND!!
GAH!!! Why are a bunch of fifth-graders holding a rally for Todd Bertuzzi?

Ew! What the hell??? That’s a travesty!
The mcguggs family tree is both straight and full. I’m worried. It’s probably carrying swine flu.
Congrats on the “it’s quiet. TOO quiet” tree, mcguggs!
Congrats on the “it’s quiet. TOO quiet” tree, mcguggs!
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: That’s exactly it!
Our living room is terrible for Christmas trees (which is funny, because “good place for a Christmas tree” was one of the five things we required from a house when we were considering buying it), so we put off buying ours as long as we can without feeling too bereft. It’s so sad being us. We make up for it by putting out presents outrageously early. *Gazes over at the ever-expanding pile of loot on the windowseat, and sighs happily*
Wooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We’re giving the Furrycanes flashbacks :p
The Stuffins are in the oven.
[...] what the broadcast squad said. I was only listening as I was in the kitchen constructing stuffins. That picture was starting to whisper sweet nothings in my ear. Watching only the third turned [...]
Stuffins? I had NO idea about them. They’re amazing!
Man, it’s been quiet around here this weekend! Kathleen, I’m so glad you went for it with the stuffins! And WOOOOOOOOOOO! for the Sabres! Carol, my mission in life is now to spread the word of stuffins far and wide. People, believe me — they will change your life!
No kidding! I think I’ll make some stuffing on December 24th to take to my aunt’s on Christmas day. She’ll be so impressed.
Canucks were creaming the Oilers, but now…not so much. At one point it was 5-1…now it’s 5-3.
I love the stuffins idea. I think I’ve already said that but it bears repeating. I do that with meatloaf for two reasons, it cooks faster and I like the crunchier edges. So similar translation to stuffing.
And the Stars WON!!! But not after losing a 3-1 lead in the last 5 minutes and had to go to overtime to win it.
Grumble. Grumble.
But hey, a win’s a win!
I’m having a lovely sunday.
It started with a big flood in my basement. A water filter broke during the night, and water flowed directly on the floor for a few hours. It took me 3 hours to clean up the mess with the help of a neighbor and an electric pump. Then, once I finally was able to have my breakfast and turn on my laptop, I was happy to learn the habs lost to the caps yesterday after allowing the tying goal with less than 20 seconds to go in the third period.
DAMN IT!
Oh, Grrrreg, that sounds like a TERRIBLE day. I’m so sorry!
It feels better now… The mess is cleaned up in my basement, and well, the habs still lost, but there’s nothing I can do about this mess, so I’ll live with it! :P
I have a travesty to report that is almost as devastating as Grrrreg’s morning. While unwrapping the creshe, I discovered our headless wiseman, the amputee donkey, and the faceless sheep are missing!! Technically the decapitated wiseman was the fourth one, so now we’re historically accurate, but the donkey and sheep will be dearly missed!!
I think you should call CSI Buffalo immediately. Don’t let this crime unpunished. What soulless person would rob an amputee donkey? I bet it’s a Rangers fan.
What soulless person would rob an amputee donkey?
*suspiciously eyes the cat*
I bet it’s a Rangers fan.
Heh. An ass stealing an ass.
I bet it’s a Rangers fan.

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Oh my gosh, those are amazing! I’m Canadian so we celebrated Thanksgiving in October but these are on the list for next year!

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: And that’s an even worse tragedy than Grrrreg’s awful basement flood! How can you have Christmas without the amputee donkey and faceless sheep??? It’s just not the holiday without those!
Speaking of the holiday, we’re watching Sandra Lee’s Holiday show from Saturday night now. All I can say is HOLY COW.
Ivonne, I’m so glad we could give you some inspiration for your Thanksgiving menu just a few months in advance of the holiday. :D
Remember, Ivonne, stuffins can be made year round! I intend to have stuffins with every meal. *looks at Schnookie, the chef* Right, Schnookie? RIGHT?!
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: to all the creche/ass/Rangers stuff!

Please tell me you’re going to blog all about it. Or do you think it’s on yubetube already?
*someone at my office calls it that. She actually thinks that’s the name and I won’t correct her due to the silliness of it.*
Sorry about the basement AND the amputated donkey. Sheesh. This is quite the trying day.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Yubetube! I love it! (Sadly, I don’t think we could do the Sandra show justice blogging it. We couldn’t really even verbalize what was so awful about it, other than “It just… Sandra.” It wasn’t like her regular show [sadly], and was really weird. She was helping throw a surprise Christmas party for a family whose daughter was home from the Peace Corps. Only the family was in North Jersey, and the few flavoring shots they had of the exterior of the house featured bright leafy green trees. The participants in the party did a moderately good job of pretending it was actually Christmastime. Heh.)
