Today we decided the very best way to honor Marty’s 104th shutout was to commemorate it in gingerbread form.
Yes, those cookies are every bit as breathtakingly awesome as the game last night was. But nothing’s too good when it comes to telling the world how great we think Marty is. Devils fans are just so lucky to have been able not only to get to see some of Marty’s career, but to have seen all of it. Really, how cool is it that when you look at a video retrospective of his career, the only sweater you see him in is the Devils? That’s our deep thought to add to the Marty discussion — we think he’s rad, and we love that he’s ours.
Meanwhile, in other gingerbread cookie news, we had a whole bunch of leftover dough after making the 104, so we cut a bunch of other holiday shapes. We aren’t really into the whole “cookie decoration” scene, so we went about adorning them with sanding sugar half-heartedly. A Christmas tree here, a glittery star there, an ax or two, and of course, some gingerbread men. After taking them out of the oven, we discovered something shocking about two of the gingerbread men:
They look exactly like CoreyPerry (CoreyPerry) and Getzi!
We swear, this was completely by accident, but seriously, isn’t it an incredible resemblance? There’s golden-haired CoreyPerry (CoreyPerry) on the left (sure, that’s supposedly a gingerbread woman, but CoreyPerry [CoreyPerry] seems like the kind of guy who enjoys wearing culottes, right?), and balding, cranky Getzi on the right.
It’s uncanny.
You know, even if the balding and cranky Getzy weren’t right next to him, I’d have figured the one in the dress to be CoreyPerry. :D
And WOO! for Marty! It really is nice to have a great player all to yourself for his whole career.

I’m happy that Modano made all his highlights wearing a Stars jersey. I never like seeing pictures of Zubov in a Rangers jersey (although that’s generally true of all players) and I’m REALLY not going to like seeing pictures of him in a KHL jersey. (Although it’s better than nothing.) (Well, not better than a picture of him in nothing, but better than no pictures of him.)

Those are good points, Schnookie. I actually decided at the time that I preferred that, because it would have been terrible to see him wearing a Kings jersey or something. The one drawback is that I don’t get to see him at all. :(

i’m a couple days late to the party, watched the game on a 24hr dvr delay. which created a very tough day at work yesterday considering it was a complete self-imposed Devils media blackout. so my normal workaday browsing was limited to shopping online. And perusing PeopleOfWalmart.com – fluctuating between laughing and dry-heaving.
and great looking cookies. when i was a kid – stop me if i told this story before – my mother, who immigrated from Germany when she was in her early 20s, baked a beautiful authentic german gingerbread house completely decorated, for my kindergarten class. i gave it to my teacher, hoping we could all dig in after nap time, and the biatch wouldnt let us touch it, she took it home for herself. 40 years later, and i obviously never forgave her.

Senor Spam had to readjust his expectations once it became apparent that the IPB Irregulars were a moral-free bunch. We’ll totally make a shirtless Getzi next time we make gingerbread cookies (i.e. next Christmas). As for the ax cookies, the ax cutter is included in the “cookie cutters for all holidays” set I gave the household for Advent (it’s the same set Schn and I had as kids). I’m assuming the ax is for Presidents Day. Because that’s a big cookie holiday, traditionally. :P
Ken, a very similar thing happened to my Dad’s kerststol when I was in 1st grade. The teacher’s argument was that there was marzipan in there, and as there were kids with nut allergies, she’d have to exclude them and that’d be sad! Except there wasn’t any marzipan, which she would have known if she’d read my Dad’s card. I think my whole family is still mad with her.

That’s always fun! My favorite is “picking vacation for next year day”. Every year we have to submit our vacation requests in January and then vacation gets doled out based on seniority. So I like to spend allllllll day considering which little days to circle on the form, even though I know that a) I always request the same weeks, b) things always change, and c) the forms aren’t processed until March so I don’t have to rush.
