Remember the other day, when we were wondering whether a baby turtle was a good sign? And it turned out to be one, what with Marty getting his 600th win and 110th shutout and Zach scoring and all that good stuff? Well, you don’t suppose it’s a good sign that Schnookie got a letter today from the Small Business/Self Employed branch of the IRS saying she’s being audited, do you? Especially considering she’s neither a small business nor self employed? Or how about whether it’s a good sign that Pookie had to return to work today after a two-week vacation? Yeah, we didn’t think so either. But join us for an open thread anyway, won’t you?

Ah the clockwork like precision of the United States government. It is truly awe inspiring.
Best of luck to your boys tonight.
I am truly impressed by our government’s diligence. I mean, of all the small business/self employed tax returns to pull at random, mine’s probably their best choice. Heh. (My accountant was NOT laughing. :P)
And thanks for the good luck wishes. :D
My accountant was NOT laughing.
I should think not.
My wife is my accountant, so if we ever get audited I’m just going to hide behind her.
So I went to Versus for the Sabres/Bruins game ON VERSUS and instead there Sports Soup. Then I come here and see that it’s the IRS to blame.
The Sabres game is now back on MSG. What Versus? Sabres/Bruins aren’t as exciting as a Wild/BJs game??
Or maybe it’s the local blackout rules.
I’ve never been really good with blackout rules. I know I’ve been tortured with Versus before, I was just curious why tonight would be different.
For some Versus games the local broadcast takes precedence, meaning that Versus is only broadcasting out of market.
My wife is my accountant, so if we ever get audited I’m just going to hide behind her.
To be honest, the first thing I thought was, “I wonder if Tracie can help me with this?” So there you go — I’m hiding behind your wife too! :D
Sabres/Bruins aren’t as exciting as a Wild/BJs game??
Well, this IS Blersus you’re talking about…
I don’t like Doc saying we wish Clemmer good luck tonight. NO WE DON’T! We wish him misery and woe! Come ON.
Really? Misery and woe? That’s not a little harsh? Why not wish him pestilence and tragedy?
I always thought the hockey gods would punish that sort of sportsmanship. I think the least you can wish an opponent is “I hope you don’t die.” Wishing anything worse than that only tempts the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing.
Well, it was a hockey sort of misery and woe I was wishing on him, hardly pestilence and tragedy.
I’m wishing him misery and woe in the goals against department tonight. I really wish Chico would quit it with the “the only storyline tonight is how much we all love Clemmer” thing.
I really wish Chico would quit it with the “the only storyline tonight is how much we all love Clemmer” thing.
Seriously. It’s like Chico thinks we’ve all forgotten the whining. Heh.
And poor Travis! He’s an innocent victim!
(My accountant was NOT laughing. :P)
At least you have an accountant? That helps, right?
At least you have an accountant? That helps, right?
Yeah, it really does. Of course, if I didn’t have an accountant, I might understand what went into my tax filing. So on the one hand, the fact that he was all, “Just fax me the letter tomorrow and sign the power of attorney form I’ll send you” was reassuring. On the other hand, the fact that I have a better idea of how sausage gets made than how what’s being audited got filed is a bit disquieting. Heh. I’m like, “Please, IRS, don’t ask me anything, because I don’t have any answers!!!”
I’m like, “Please, IRS, don’t ask me anything, because I don’t have any answers!!!”
Yeah, I do my own taxes and I’d be like that too. I, uh, should probably have an accountant.
Yeah, I do my own taxes and I’d be like that too. I, uh, should probably have an accountant.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Yeah, I talk a big game, but I bet I’d be just as flummoxed/freaked out if I had prepared my own taxes. Of course, I probably wouldn’t have accidentally filed as a small business… :P
And what is UO with this game? I go to the kitchen and the Devils score, then I come back in here and the Panthers score. It’s going to be like that, is it?
Well that was poopy.
Well that was poopy.
The Devils and Sabres are fighting over 2nd place…
“You take it.”
“No, you take it!”
“No, I said you!”
“You take it.”
“No, you take it!”
“No, I said you!”
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The Devils think they may have just cast the decisive move in this particular battle of the wills. :P
Oh, wait, I just realized that the Sabres game went final. Heh. Okay, so they’re matching each other move for move. :D
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! That shift was hilarious, because Chico said it was all Clarkson, I said it was all Pando, and Pookie said it was all Paulie. It’s kind of all things to all people, I guess.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! That was the first time in ages that I knew the Devils were going to score on that shift!
Well, so much for my theory that the Devils would be totally fine if they could just draw a non-playoff team in the first round…
So much for misery and woe in the goals against department.
Eh, Bruins win = Rangers lose!! I am totally okay with this. I think maybe the Sabres did it on purpose ;)
Woah. Clemmer was really having a “Fuck you Devils” night, I guess.
I think the IRS is looking into Schnookie’s piles of unreported income she got from being in cahoots with the Lowell kid and his cayenne pepper smuggling racket.

Yeah, I didn’t want to be the one to say it, but… :D
And you’re so right, Kathleen! Sestito Puente is using me to launder his cayenne money!
I’m happy I forgot about this game. 3 goals on 18 shots against Marty. Also, this proves I am not the curse against the Devils!
Why am I so sleepy? I think the dog put something in my (one!) beer.
Good morning, everybody! I hope everyone’s having a great Friday, one that’s free of both tax audits and losing to the Panthers.
I hope everyone’s having a great Friday, one that’s free of both tax audits and losing to the Panthers.
My Friday is good (so far). I have a nice hot cup of coffee and was proven right in an argument with a co-worker. (That smoking email will get them every time.)
I’m having a fabulous if not a little groggy morning. Last night’s Stars game was the best sports experience I have ever had.
Amazing, amazing send off for Mike Modano.
Storybook ending.
and was proven right in an argument with a co-worker.
Ooooh, that’s always AWESOME!
And I’m so happy for you Stars fans that you had such a great game and got to give Modano such a nice send-off.
Good morning, everyone!
Congratulations on the great Stars game and the fabulous goodbye to Modano!
The whole Modano tribute was incredibly classy and moving. It’s not that often you hear about a guy playing his entire career with one organization. Regardless of what he’s done on the ice, that alone is worth celebrating.
you cant be audited if you dont file. well, thats my theory at least. or is theorem? axiom?
and losing to Clemmenson? really? 42 million thousand shots and just 2 measely goals? the Devils can make the goalie from The Mighty Ducks movie win the Vezina.
you cant be audited if you dont file. well, thats my theory at least. or is theorem? axiom?
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Good thinking! I’ll try that next time… :P
the Devils can make the goalie from The Mighty Ducks movie win the Vezina.
Ugh. It’s so true. But at least the goalie from The Mighty Ducks movie never played for the Devils, so we wouldn’t have to spend the whole game hearing Doc and Chico fawn over him and blathering on about how much Devils fans love him.

So wait, Kevin Weekes isn’t Goldberg? What?
I’m still in bed :D
So wait, Kevin Weekes isn’t Goldberg? What?
He ISN’T! Say it ain’t so!
I’m still in bed :D
Slouch.
Slouch.
Hush your face. I filled out a job application today, AND weirded out my girlfriend. Again. Hadn’t done it since….12 hours ago.
I filled out a job application today, AND weirded out my girlfriend. Again. Hadn’t done it since….12 hours ago.
That’s an NHLPA-member-calibre day right there. Except without the whole “going to gym class for pay” factor.
I’d write a list of everything I’ve done today, but “studying for midterms” doesn’t compare to weirding out a significant other.
That’s an NHLPA-member-calibre day right there. Except without the whole “going to gym class for pay” factor.
two hours of answering e-mails for pay comes later.
Habs are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
I’m so angry at them today. They needed one little point to clinch with 3 games to go, and what do they do? They lose two in a row against the freaking Isles and Canes. Because it’s always so much fun to give your already eliminated archrivals a chance to end your season at home on saturday (you know, exactly like what happened just 3 years ago).
Uuuggh.
Sorry about that, that’s it, my rant is over.
Don’t apologize, Grrrreg! Now is the time of year for ranting! And losing to the Isles and Canes when all you need is one point is… well, REALLY rant-worthy.
Habs are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
I’m really sorry about this, Grrreg. And I’m afraid I just may have this same sentiment about my own team a few short weeks. UGH!
Also, losing to the Hurricanes? SNORT!
I mean, poorly played Habs. Ah boo!
Uuuggh.
Sounds about right. I’m sorry Grrreg! Carol and Schnookie are right, ranting is ok, and that really poor form by the Habs!
They’re going to get it though*. They have to.
(*actual results may vary)
I’m counting on the Rangers and the Flyers to be stupid enough to kill each other with their home and home series. Betting on the Flyers and Rangers stupidity is always wise anyway.
Oh, and Mags, if you’re still around, I’m drinking a Dutch alcohol right now. It’s called Juttertje, it’s apparently from an island called Texel, and it’s urprisingly good.
Alright, see you later, the Juttertje is calling me!
it’s apparently from an island called Texel, and it’s urprisingly good.
Being (unfortunately) blessed with the knowledge of what Texel is like, I’m not at all surprised. I’d make sure I had something good to drink away my sorrows too.
Betting on the Flyers and Rangers stupidity is always wise anyway.
That it is. I really want the Rangers to be out after reading a “woe is us” article in the New York Times regarding the financial impact of not making the playoffs.
the financial impact of not making the playoffs.
Man up, princess. So you won’t have money to burn next year. All that fire is bad for the environment anyway.
I really want the Rangers to be out after reading a “woe is us” article in the New York Times regarding the financial impact of not making the playoffs.
Ugh, seriously. I mean, as if I needed another reason to not want the Rangers to make the playoffs… Of course, last year the Flyers just needed to beat the Rangers at home in their last game to get home ice in the first round, and they blew it. I am HIGHLY confident the Rangers are sweeping this weekend’s series.
OK, so Farts is coming through that door! Come on, Flyers, you can do it!
Good start, Flyers. Keep it up!
Bad, Flyers! BAD!
I’m still deciding on if I want to watch hockey tonight.
I’m wishing I hadn’t turned it on. Beaks scored the awesomest goal EVER in the first 40 seconds, but then it’s been all downhill since then.
Then I’m definitely not watching. I don’t want to watch last night’s game again with different uniforms.
I don’t want to watch last night’s game again with different uniforms.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: This game has NOT been easy for me. When the Rangers went up 3-1, we immediately decided we had to change the channel, but then our zapper battery died, and we were STUCK. It was the worst, most interminable minute of my life, before the Flyers scored again, and the pain lessened slightly. I just… I think I need to not watch the EC playoffs this year. I’m in no condition to be watching games that matter featuring teams I loathe.
I’m in no condition to be watching games that matter featuring teams I loathe.
I suggest you invest in blindfolds. Or a zapper that works.

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: What is this “heart” of which you speak? :P
There’s a player on the Rangers called Jody Shelley? That’s nice of them to help women through the NHL’s glass ceiling. Good for them.

I think the only reason Manon Rheaume didn’t stay in the NHL was because there were too many whiny bitches in men’s hockey. Marc Savard wears more make up than I do.

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
And this game was DISGUSTING. AND WE STILL CAN’T CHANGE THE CHANNEL!
