Yeah, it is so so nasty out right now. I was actually excited to go to work this morning since there’s air conditioning here and I have none at home.
What exactly happened to the camera?
Two things. First it met the improperly closed container of glazed veggie skewers I’d made to take to the team BBQ. That was my fault. The LCD was kind of a mess, but it was otherwise ok. Then I gave it to Jip (6YO) to take pictures of the party with, with the instruction to keep the strap around her neck so as not to drop it and to stay away from the fire pit and the pond. Then (for reasons unknown to anyone) she got in a fight with her brother Douwe (8YO), who pushed her… right into the previously mentioned pond. And thus Sarge the Camera was carried away by a flood of tears and accusations.

I can’t even IMAGINE living without AC right now, Meg! How horrible!! We had to replace our AC a couple of weeks ago, and after the initial “oh my GOD” sticker shock and fury that such a large unexpected expense came up (immediately on the tail of the large unexpected tree-removal expense), I’m SOOOOOOOOOO delighted. The new air conditioner is IMMEASURABLY better than the old one, and stately IPB Manor is reaching levels of comfortableness that it has never even considered before. That’s my story. I’m wearing a sweater right now in the office because it’s so overly air-conditioned (on an “energy alert” day, no less, when we’re all supposed to be closing our blinds and sitting in the dark to save energy), and when I go home, it’s going to be positively delightful inside. Some days, it’s really grand being me. :P

I got caught in a small monsoon while running to Joann Fabrics on lunch. I am now running around the office in flip flops due to my heels being soaked through. So I’m kind of in violation of the dress code, but dry feet beat wet feet any day.
The wet feet were totally worth it since I got some super cute fabric to make fabric circle art for my living room wall.

All my time was eaten by covering for my two slacker co-authors on our Financial Instruments paper (I told on them and got an A+, in case anyone cares. They didn’t get grades at all. Vengeance is mine!) and the Marketing paper. It’s ok. I’ll do the resit in August, but in order to be eligible for that I do have to take the first exam. I’m actually looking forward to a big fat F.

A customer asked if I could help her import data from Access to Publisher so I said I’d give it a whirl and let her know. I used to use Access a lot, like, five years ago, so I figured it would come back to me. 20 minutes later I finally had created a form, but couldn’t figure out how to enter data into it. So being that I work in a library I said, “FINE! I will go get a book off the shelf about Access, are you happy, Universe?!” So I grabbed “Access 2007 for Dummies” and guess what the 3rd title in the Table of Contents is? “Foolish Assumptions”. Very funny, Universe.

I have to say of the Modano situation that if I was a Stars fan, I wouldn’t begrudge him the right to continue playing elsewhere if that’s what he wanted, but I wouldn’t be happy about it either. I would not want someone with that kind of history with the organization I love to go somewhere else to tack a few extra years onto his career, because I would know that the fans of his new team would NEVER love him as well as I did. That would make me very sad, the thought that this player who is above reproach in my eyes would be seen so differently by his new team’s fanbase. (This is something I think about with Pando fairly frequently. It’s so tough being the corrupt ruling priest-class of Pandonation, because now that our emperor-god pretty much sucks, we’re in a constant state of wondering when the other shoe is going to drop, and how painful it’s going to be. :P)

Dude, tell me about it! I’m not much of a hat wearer, so it’s not something I’m normally coming up against, but on the rare occasion when a hat is required, it’s brutal. We went to a dude ranch a few years ago, where one of the big activities to kick off the stay there was to customize your own straw cowboy hat. And the staff scrounged high and low everywhere on the property and still couldn’t find a hat that fit me. Finally, on our last night there, one of the staffers made a special trip into town to get me a suitably outlandishly-enormous hat. It was like a big, teary deal for the entire group when I was given a hat that fit. :P

Don’t you hate when you suddenly realize you’re wearing disgusting garments? That recently happened to me with my entire work wardrobe. I’m glad my bosses are polite enough that they haven’t confronted me about what a slob I am. (Also, about how enormous my noggin is. :P)

That’s interesting, because I wasn’t sure he could be bought out due to the CBA. Because he had surgery and is still recovering, he was supposed to be protected from buyout. I guess if you request it the CBA doesn’t matter.

As for hats, I have the opposite problem re:size. My head is too small for most hats. If I wear adjustable ones, I have to cinch them super tight and it just looks stupid and they still fall off my head. Hence my metric crap tonne of bandannas (with pirate-y patterns!) and a super cool pair of sunnies for running. I am fully committed to looking as absurb as I possibly can.

I love Modano, but he really needs to just hang it up. I know that’s awful and I wouldn’t freak out at him playing for a non-Stars team (although it would make me very sad), but I think there’s no better time for him to hang up the skates as far as his own personal track record goes, not because of what the fans want.
