1-2-3 Hockey: 38 of 45
After the hand-quilting class I left one of the practice muslin-batting sandwiches in its hoop on the dining room table. Rollie decided it made a nice little nest for her this evening while Boomer and I trimmed up some more pies and tarts. My jury duty experience finally came to an end today, with a very satisfactory ending. Schnookie was totally right — jury duty rawks. — Pk.

I cordially suggest to the NHL that they rethink that spot with Ovie, Getzie, Zach, J-Staal, etc. being all stoic and sweaty while gripping their sticks. Unless their intention was to make me chortle and snort my drink up my nose, in which case they succeeded admirably.
Aww, Rollie’s such a cute kitty!
I’d say that jury duty being over combined with pies & tarts makes for a nice day overall.

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Sadly, they’re not food pies and tarts. Only fabric ones. Food ones would have been so much tastier!
Oops, I wasn’t thinking when I wrote the description over on Flickr that “pies and tarts” does sound very misleading. Sorry! But jury duty was pretty awesome. I’m sad I have to go back to real life today.
Oh man, I really want a meat pie now.
The only thing that will come of Iron Boar complaining about ear problems is Whitey smacking him around while yelling “I can’t see! I’m still out there every night! I think! It’s hard to tell when you can’t see!”
Oh man, I really want a meat pie now.
I have been hankering SO HARD for shepherds pie lately. So I know how you feel, sort of. And that’s my story.
“I can’t see! I’m still out there every night! I think! It’s hard to tell when you can’t see!”
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: So is that what starts those annual Langer/Whitey fights, too?
Ooops. My bad. That’s what I get for thinking with my stomach, LOL.
My mom makes the BEST shepherd’s pie (the key is daddy’s/HP sauce), but I’m really craving chicken pot pie or something on that line right now.
Mmm, chicken pot pie… I’ve started caving and just buying the premade crusts in the refrigerated section at the fridge, because making crust always leads to me talking myself out of things that sound good. So I think we might have pot pie for dinner tonight! Thanks IPB, for helping plan dinner.
I enjoyed my jury duty experience pretty well also! We even got to have an interesting debate about levels of assault and sentencing! Frankly, it was a lot more interesting than my job at the time.
Mmm, chicken pot pie…
I haven’t had chicken pot pie in a loooong time. It’s one of my favorite dishes, but usually seems like too much effort to actually make. Now I really want some, too.
Dude, I would kill for some chicken pot pie right now! Mmmmm… Sadly, we’re in that transitional season stage of our farm share where we’re getting lots of tomatoes and the early fall green-and-leafy stuff. So I have too much non-chicken pot pie ingredients, and not enough days in the week to cook it all. No, I’m going to have to wait for my pie. DAMMIT! (And that’s my story.)
Karen, I’m glad to hear that you also had a great jury duty experience. I was on a jury in a very short trial in January, and I was so excited for Pookie when she got called, because I loved every minute of it. I mean, it’s just such an interesting thing to be a part of that process, and it’s a little bit of unexpected time away from work. I don’t get why everyone freaks out about how sucky they think it is. Anyway, Pookie freaked out at first, but also ended up enjoying it. Jury duty rawks. :D
green-and-leafy stuff
Speaking of green and leafy stuff, I had chard for the first time a couple weeks ago. I think I might have to try it again in order to appreciate it more. And that’s my story.
How was the chard prepared, Amy?
How was the chard prepared, Amy?
It was sauteed with a little olive oil & garlic. It wasn’t bad, but I think there were parts of it that needed to be cooked a little more.
Hm. I’m sorry it wasn’t as good as you’d hoped. I’m a big fan of chard (as you know), but I’ve had my share of sub-par chard, and when it misses, it’s pretty blah. Bummer!
We even got to have an interesting debate about levels of assault and sentencing!
Whoa, cool! We heard all kinds of stuff about how to figure out damages, but it was all moot because none of us thought the guy deserved any.
The only reason I was slow to warm up to jury duty was because the voir dire took FOREVER. I had to sit through something like 4 1/2 hours of the same 40 questions over and over and long breaks when the prospective jurors were taken out for a sidebar. The attorneys tossed so many people off that they had to bring in a second set of jurors to go through. It was so excruciatingly boring. But the rest of the experience made up for that.
i have a curiosity about jury duty, not saying i’d go out of my way to volunteer, but if i get selected i’d serve.
photography sidebar: have you ever seen the tiltshift technique?

pretty interesting looking shots.
teasing me with a couple of preseason games, then not sharing the rest is not nice at all. not nice. makes the regular season seem so far away. again.
kenF, I completely agree that this “here are some games… WHOOPS! No more games! PSYCH!” thing is BRUTAL. I feel like hockey for reals will NEVER be here. :P
And I think tiltshift is SO cool. I think Carol Browne has played around with it a bit, and I’m always like, “DUDE!” Pookie managed to get a bit of a tiltshift effect with a lot of her pictures with the lensbaby in The Netherlands. It was so weird, but also not something I’m complaining about! Anyway, I think we need to tiltshift some hockey pictures… :D
