It’s a full, delicious slate of hockey on Thanksgiving Eve, and we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the things we’re thankful for.
– Hockey! No matter how badly the season’s going for the Devils, it’s still great to have hockey on TV every night.
– Stuffins!
– That if the Devils were only going to have a scant few wins by this point in the season, at least they made sure one of them was a 5-0 romp over the Caps.
– Super Mario Brothers Wii, and a four-day weekend to play it during.
– Cranberry sauce in the shape of the can on our good china.
– The Devils’ very own miniature giraffe.
– In a season of really lousy Devils hockey, our secondary teams!
– And our tertiary teams!
– In that vein, the Blue Jackets’ Golden State Sweep!
– Christmas decorations in Palmer Square in Princeton today.
– The sleigh bell sale at Howell Living History Farm.
– Did we mention hockey?
– All of our family and friends, in person and online. Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!

WHY IS THE GAME ON C-SPAN AND WHY DOES THIS MAKE IT MORE EXCITING?!?
Oh, wait, that’s C-SPAN2. We couldn’t unseat some discussion in the House of Reps.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I’m not Thankful for games in non-HD.
I must try making stuffins at Christmas.
And I think I’ve said this before but I love your china.
Holy crap, Christine Simpson has the tiniest hands ever. She’s like the anti-Man Hands.
Oh, wait, that’s C-SPAN2. We couldn’t unseat some discussion in the House of Reps.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Yeah, I hate to take the buzz off our holiday cheer, but dude, C-SPAN2 is NOT making me happy. I especially love how they’ve made it worse this year by just stretching it to HD proportion, so it’s blurry and awful… and the picture’s all distorted to boot. SIGH.
And I think I’ve said this before but I love your china.
Thanks, Myra! I love it, too, but we literally never use it. (That picture is from two Thanksgivings ago, and was the last time we used it.) Boomer could not figure out why I wanted to keep it last time we moved, but dude, I can’t not have the china! That’s our holiday Limoges!
And I can’t stress this enough — everyone needs to make stuffins. :D
I used to be much better about using our china regularly but not in the last couple years. My domestic goddess status has slipped a little since I went back to work full time.
I only ever get to use my China to violently put down student demonstrations.

My domestic goddess status has slipped a little since I went back to work full time.
Yeah. Ours slipped a lot when we turned our dining room table into a quilt station. Who wants to move the sewing machine and all the fabric cutting mats for Thanksgiving dinner?
Did Chico just call Devils fans “spoiled” this season? Um… I don’t think that word means what he thinks it means.
Maybe it’s time to try the china in front of the tv?

Stick fruit next to rotten fruit and they’ll spoil pretty quickly.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Tedenby-eautiful!
WOOOOOOO!!!!
Stick fruit next to rotten fruit and they’ll spoil pretty quickly.
Good point.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! ::does little mini-giraffe happy dance::
I’m thankful for having stitching projects to be paying attention to instead of C-SPAN2 Devils hockey. Heh. I love that I was all, “WOOOOOOOOOOOO! HOCKEY GAME NIGHT!!!!” and then the game started and I was like, “::silently riffles through magazines::”
Yeeaaa….I’m reading an article about movies that were better than the books and I’m leaving soon anyway to meet people down the pub. So…go Devils…
Have fun at the pub, Tim! And have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Also, Chico just said the word “chuckle”. Shout out?
Shout out?
Totes.
Have a great time at the pub, Tim! Say hi to your friends for me! :D
Oh, you’re still here? Sorry about that. Heh.
I love Chico just referring to a wraparound attempt by the Flames as “the dreaded wraparound”. I suspect the Devils are the team least likely to be taken by surprise by a wraparound now, after facing them constantly from Clarkson in every practice.
So, watching the Flyers game here, I think the winner of Movember is Brent Burns. Yowza. That’s some impressive facial hair there.
Pookie, Dave wants to know if you are desperate since you just picked Arnott????
Yes, yes I am. Actually, I figured I’d try to send the Devils some good vibes to let them know I haven’t given up on them entirely.
Well, lookie there. The Stars won one on the road.
WOO HOO! Congrats to the Stars! They want you to have a happy holiday. :D
So, Dave leaves Saturday for a week in Stockholm, Sweden. Anyone have any suggestions for things to do while he is there, other than try not to freeze?
Whoa! That sounds like a ton of fun! I actually don’t know anything about Stockholm, other that that I imagine I’d have a lot of fun taking pictures there.
(Meanwhile the Devils want us to have a boring holiday. Yeesh. Going into the OT, Chico actually said that neither team deserved to win. Chico said that.)
Stockholm, eh? I got nuthin’. Sorry! Except, of course, to go see a Swedish league game!
Woah. Chico said that? That must be bad.
Dave & Grace are trying to set up a webcam on his laptop so he can video chat with us. I don’t think his computer is powerful enough to handle it though. Phooey.
I like the Swedish league game idea.
The only places I know in Stockholm are yarn stores and hockey places. I think we can only reasonably subject Dave to half of that.
Oh, and the palace. He should definitely have a gander at the palace. If only because it’s so delightfully ridiculously ornate in that way European palaces of that time are.
Happy Thursday y’all :)
Stockholm is totally riddled with runestones I think. He must check those out. Wikipedia makes Gamla Stan sound like a must-see as the Medieval part of town, and I dare him to try Surströmming aka rotten fish.
By Stockholm, I meant Uppland, which is just north.
I dare him to try Surströmming aka rotten fish.
Yes, on toast. But open the can under water, because the smell of it is so overwhelmingly awful that you will never stop smelling it.
(Have we been watching the same episodes of QI again, Tim?)
Happy Thanksgiving, Ookies! Actually, Happy Thanksgiving to all you American hockey fans out there!
It’s snowing in Vancouver in your honor. I’m enjoying this big dump very much. :-)
Carol, we had snow here too! Ok, it only last about 30 minutes, and it was gone 5 minutes later, but it was SNOW. I miss snow.
(Have we been watching the same episodes of QI again, Tim?)
(Yes we have!)
Happy Thanksgiving!
We got one night of snow a couple weeks ago, but it was all melted by the time I woke up and then it was 60 degrees out later that day.
Carol, we had snow here too!
Snow in the Nederlands? Awesome. I can just picture it now on the windmills…mmmm…dreamy!
but it was all melted by the time I woke up and then it was 60 degrees out later that day.
Ah boo! Ours is melting already. It’s rain snowing now. BLECH! But we did have snow this morning and it was lovely.
Hey everybody!
Thanksgiving at stately IPB Manor was like a dream come true. We had snow (for about a couple of hours, but none of it stuck), too! And our food was all scrumptious, and we watched tons of movies, and did tons of stitching, and just had a magnificent time. And today we get to do it all over again, only I don’t have to do any cooking! WOO HOO!
Wait…no shopping? I thought that’s what everybody does today in the States. In fact, some Canadians are crossing the border today do join in!
Thanksgiving at stately IPB Manor was like a dream come true.
Woo yay!
I’m very jealous. But my Thursday was pretty good as far as Thursdays go, so what the heck.
Shut out by the Isles. I just don’t even know.
I didn’t even know there was a game on. Go Devils.
I knew there was a game on, but I also knew better than to watch the Devils on the Island the day after a holiday. (We once went out there for a game the day after Christmas. ::shudder:: Not a pretty sight.) Yeesh.
We had a great Thanksgiving, too! No snow, which is good here because we wouldn’t have been able to go to our friends’ new house. It’s 10,000 square feet jammed packed with the most incredibly ornate atrociously bad furniture you can possibly imagine. Susan is a great pediatrician but her decorating style is….scary. But the food was great despite the fact that the warming oven caught on fire (the installers left some cardboard in it). They ran out of propane in the middle of cooking the stuffing. And Dave, my sister and Susan got stuck in the elevator (yes, doesn’t everyone have an elevator) when it broke down after they went to the basement apartment to use the electric oven to finish cooking the stuffing.
I wish I were making this up. Hee. And the craziest thing is we really did have a great time.
Myra, that is AMAZING. I wish I could have seen this place! And all of its attendant hilarity!
Myra, I wish I could have spent Thanksgiving with the Griswolds as well.
Myra, that sounds crazy!
I just got back from my sister’s in time for the game. We had a lovely time yesterday. I hope everybody else had a nice holiday.
(The best thing about it? I still have two more days until I have to go back to work.)
Y’all had snow at IPB Manor?! That’s pretty cool! We had 80 degrees Wednesday, then Thursday it was about 35 most of the day. Needless to say, some of us were caught without our coats.
