This Whole Crazy Season Is Suddenly Making Sense To Us

Remember back a bunch of weeks ago when the Devils were catastrophically bad and seemed to be completely unwilling to make the drastic changes that obviously needed to happen? And we were all utterly puzzled by Lou’s inability to just fire Johnny Mac already? Well, Gulitti’s column today about Langer facing off against his old team post-trade shed a new light on the situation, and it’s all making sense to us. Gulitti reports that Langer was asked to waive his no-trade clause way back in training camp, but for whatever stupid reason he decided not to, and now we understand that the entire first half of the season was just Lou doing everything he could think of to get rid of the erstwhile Captain Fuck This Shit.

Tons of injuries? Weren’t enough to get rid of Langer.

Heaps of losing? Wasn’t enough to get rid of Langer.

Rock-bottom, shitty coaching? Wasn’t enough to get rid of Langer.

The threat of veteran players being humiliated by getting put on waivers? Wasn’t enough to get rid of Langer.

Being forced to play games in horrible, stranding-players-in-their-cars snowstorms? Wasn’t enough to get rid of Langer.

Lou tried everything, and none of it worked. Langer’s stubborn petulance was more than a match for Lou, who has clearly lost a step. The only thing he could do was pick up the “in case of emergency break glass” hammer and bring in the Angel Summoner. Can you even imagine if that hadn’t worked?

The amazing thing about the former CFTS is that he admits he spent the months after he refused to waive the NTC brooding about the fact that they didn’t want him anymore, and he admits that there were a bunch of things that he had an issue with last year that he won’t discuss, but he still thinks he handled everything well and nothing. really, had anything to do with him.

It is amazing to me that his former teammates do still seem to love him but we have noted that we love this team but many of them aren’t very bright.

I am watching the Rangers play the Canes and I am stumped as to which team should win.

It’s really amazing, isn’t it, that the iconic former Devils player Langer ended up being most like was… Blobby Holik. Back when he was first given the C I would never have believed that. ::sigh:: What a waste.

1. Larry and Jacques trying hard not to laugh as the huge toolbag Engblom comes onto the bench for a mid-game interview.

2. The epic douche in the background during the postgame on ice moose interview

Baby steps. You’re only four points back of those that are five points back. Work on getting into the Buffalo/Atlanta fight. Then focus on eighth place. And there are members of the Buffalo media who feel that if the Devils keep going on their current streak that they will make the playoffs. The only thing that is not in their favor is that other teams have games in hand.

Last night excepted, of course. Wow that was a bad game! I don’t think 1-0 games are necessarily bad (last week’s game against the Rangers was great) but this was a bad one. I am almost believing the Devils can make the playoffs if they can win games playing like this.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m actually more excited today than I was for Pegula Day – today is the first gmae of the Pegula Era. The players sound super excited too, which is great. The only downside is that if tonight’s game isn’t at least as awesome as that time when they trashed the Thrashers 10-2 it’s going to feel like a letdown. (Not that I’m setting my expectations too high or anything.)
