We interrupt our constant stream of hockey blogging content with this important update: the residents of stately IPB Manor all took a day off today to head into New York City to see “Infinite Variety”, the stunning red-and-white quilt exhibit at the Park Avenue Armory.
The Devils might be missing the playoffs this year, but you know what? The world is still a beautiful place. Maybe next year the Armory can have an exhibit of red, white and black quilts instead.

The best pictures I have seen of this exhibit so far. And I have seen a few. I will try to get some passable ones with my phone on Wednesday.
Red and White quilts – Red Wings?!? I still hate Bertuzzi. I know that’s nonsensical, but sometimes the Bertuzzi hate just overwhelms everything.
You know, you never see black in antique quilts, so you will just have to hope for a contemporary red, white, and black quilt show.
Aw, thanks Tram! Your ears should have been burning today, because we mentioned you a few times during our conversations at the exhibit. :D And holy yowza, but it is AWESOME. It’s a quilter’s dream, an art enthusiast’s dream, and a photographer’s dream. Just brilliant. I’ve never seen anything like it! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it. (And no, I don’t think it’s a sign about the Wings. That would just be silly. It could have been a sign about the Devils, though — that would have made perfect sense. :P)

There is nothing nonsensical about hating Bertuzzi. In fact, I think it would be nonsensical NOT to hate him. I mean, come on. It just Bertuzzi.

You’re such a buzzkill! :P
Also, I should add that it’s especially fair to hate Bertuzzi tonight — that was a magnificently stupid penalty. Maybe you’ll get lucky and he’ll get a long suspension?
Yes, the stupid penalty opened up the festering wound of Bertuzzi hate.
“Maybe you’ll get lucky and he’ll get a long suspension?”
From your lips to God’s ears. God does hand out the suspensions, doesn’t he?

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I think if there’s one thing hockey fans have learned over the years, it’s that there is no God when it comes to suspensions.
Those Red Wings quilts are very beautiful despite their unfortunate associations. Wow, that display is (awesomely) surreal. Was it like staring into a starry night full of quilts?

Yay! Know what else is a bitchin’ color combo? Blue & gold! Hop to it, Armory.

Amen(?)

Enjoy the show on Wednesday, Tram! Pictures do NOT do the exhibit justice — it’s just stunning.
Was it like staring into a starry night full of quilts?
That’s a great description!
I think the Armory would get even more people to show up if they had 30 exhibits, one for each team’s color combo. Now they just need to find someone with a collection of 650 quilts for each team…
Apparently the woman who owns the quilts went to the same Oxford college I did and is on the board of the college’s American Friends organization. Maybe I should try and find out if she understands the hockey color symbolism of her quilt collection.

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I think the hockey world needs to know what she meant by this! (And could you ask her if she wants to give me any of these quilts?)
I think the hockey world needs to know what she meant by this!
I’ll see what I can find out! Would you mind if I pointed the college to your lovely photo collection? They were the ones who alerted me to the exhibit, unfortunately, I couldn’t go.

Mind? We’d be delighted! There are SO MANY people posting photos of this just on Flickr, let alone all the other avenues for photo sharing on the interwebs. I think the college would like ours the best, though. :P
This Ducks game is extremely sad so far.
Sorry I’m so late to the party, but WOWZA! What a beautiful display! I’m embarrassed now by the way they display quilts at the Fair.
It really is gorgeous (it can’t hurt to have the Park Avenue Armory at your disposal of course) as are the quilts. Judging from the pictures that is. I haven’t been myself.

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Don’t worry — half of the buzz surrounding the show is the amazing, innovative way they’ve displayed the quilts. :D
Meg, if you’ve got some spare time tomorrow, the show is totally, totally worth checking out, even if you don’t like quilts. I know you’ve got lots of spare time these days, right? :D Also… IN YOUR FACE, PEONS! EAT ‘SOXER DUST!!! That’s right, the ol’ 7-2 upset! WOOOO!!!!
So I’m currently online with Blime Warner tech support because Center Ice isn’t working properly. My assigned tech sounded like Ned Flanders and this was our dialogue:
Tech: “What seems to be the problem today?”
McG: “My Center Ice channels aren’t functioning properly.”
Tech: (in an overly fake disappointed voice) “Oh No! Well that’s unfortunate! What exactly is the difficulty?”
McG: “Well for example, channel 535 is supposed to be playing the, uh, repeat of last night’s Rangers/Panthers game but instead it’s a blue screen.”
The conversation should have ended like this:
Tech: “So you’re calling because you can’t watch the Panthers/Rangers game? Really?”
McG: “I’m gonna go now.”
Instead Flanders went on to check all the Center Ice channels with me over the phone, announcing EACH TIME “Oh no, it looks like the Blue Jackets game isn’t working either.” First of all, yes, I fucking checked every channel before I called. I didn’t really want to watch the damn Rangers/Panthers game, it just happened to be the channel I randomly picked. Second, his voice was so fake and last night’s games were such crap, that it sounded like he was making fun of me for wanting to watch them. I can almost hear him hanging up and saying “Oh we better get this fixed because I know one unhappy camper that wants to watch the Senators/BOLTS! game!!”
And my DVR didn’t record last night’s Sabres/Leafs game. So I am actually an unhappy camper about that.
Ookies, I heard back from St. Hildas, they said the photos were beautiful, they are sending the link to the owner of the quilts, Joanna Rose.

:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I’m sorry your DVR and cable are being such dorks!
SueNJ97, that’s so cool! Thanks for sending our photos to them! ::blushes::
Those quilts are just…wow. The craftsmanship and display both play off each other so nicely.
So I am actually an unhappy camper about that.
Crunchy waived helplessly at a Phaneuf slapper, Goose was speared relentlessly in the Gooseberries by Phaneuf and Crunchy had a leaky five hole on the winning goal. The end. :-)
That quilt show is so dreamy, I posted it on Pinterest. That’s amazing! It looks HUGE, or YUGE as they say in New York. Right? Everyone must talk like Donald Trump in the NYC. I’m sure of it.

WORD. And it’s even better when you’re a Canucks fan right now. Hellz yah. Delicious!

:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Amy, you should do the Shootout. (Random thought: even though I type “Amy”, I always say “Aim” in my head because that’s what I’ve always called my friends named Amy.)
I would have like to see the Goose/Komi “roughing” and the 24 minutes played by Butler.
The quilt exibition is completely beautiful by the way. It’s a good thing there’s no blue though. That’s one step away from being an ode to the Rangers.
And my cable is back to normal, so I was just about to say all the NYS teams are playing each other tonight… but, yes, I caught myself in time and remembered NJ is not NY.
