Immediately following the conclusion of tonight’s Devils/Sens game we had a brilliant idea for a rule change. In the wake of the big realignment decision, we figure the BOG would be open to even more sweeping changes, so we’ll put this out there for them to consider. Now, we fully put forth that this rule change would help the Devils quite a bit in the immediate future, but looking long-term, this will likely be a benefit to all the teams. So here’s the deal:
In our new, improved NHL the first period would be 20 minutes, the second period would be 20 minutes, and the third period would be 19 minutes and 45 seconds.
We know. It’s brilliant. Think about it, BOG. We don’t even care if you flat-out steal it and try to claim it as your own idea. Just make it happen.

But, you have to make sure the Devils still think the 3rd period is the full 20 mins. Otherwise, eventually, it will sink in, and failure will move up 15 seconds.

Why not get rid of the third period altogether? There’s still way too much potential for bad stuff to happen in 19:45 once the second period is over.
Well actually, now that I think of it, as a habs fan, I’m not really fond of the second period either. And well, 1st periods tend to suck too. At this point, if I could, I’d just keep the warm-ups and the intermissions.
Oh, and sorry to keep complaining about my team, but they just traded a guy who is not super good at hockey but that I really loved (Spacek) for a guy who sucks at hockey and that I already hate (and who has a much worse contract): Kaberle. Sigh.

Grrrreg, I hate to undermine your mockery of your team’s PP, but for some totally inexplicable reason, the Devils actually have a good PK. The deal seems to be that the fewer Devils players are on the ice, the better the Devils play. Which, I suppose, does make sense.
It sucks because the habs have the exact same problem. Very good PK, terrible PP. Maybe they should just play 3 on 3 hockey today?

They almost killed off the time on the carry-over penalty from the 1st period when Henrique took a delay of game penalty. They managed to kill the short 5-3 but couldn’t kill off the rest of the Henrique penalty.
At this point, I’d be happy to see some 5-on-5 for a while.

I should have known things weren’t going to go well for the Devils today because we were planning to adopt a cat that we’d seen at PetSmart earlier this week. His name was Cuddles Fluffytail (no joke) and our plan was to change that to Zach Cuddles Fluffytail. But when we got back to PetSmart, our little Zach had been adopted by someone else. SURELY that’s a bad sign, right?
Gill is super slow but he’s decent, and he does a good job on the PK. And he has a nice deadpan sense of humor in his interviews.
Well he might actually be named Zach Cuddles Puffytails if he was picked up by a certain turtle of affairs for his master.
