Oh. You Again?

This season has been an especially nice and mellow one for us. After the shock and trauma of the first half of last year, and the craziness of the second half, we’ve found a pleasant even keel where we thoroughly enjoy the wins and immediately forget about the losses. It’s a delightful way to be a hockey fan, because it seems like the sun is shining every day. Every day, that is, except the last time the Devils played the Bruins. That’s a loss we will never forget. So, that said, who’s on the docket for tonight’s installment of “2011-2012: Chillaxin’ With The Devils”? Oh crap. It’s them. Well… it can’t be worse than last time, can it?

Well, it was LeBrun that said NJ was fun to watch. He’s always sort of liked them. Burnside still wants the entire team and its history wiped off the face of the earth, and the Cup wins awarded to Detroit, Dallas and Anaheim.

I went to a CHL game in Indiana last week. I heard on the radio they were having a special guest so I bought two front row seats. I spent 1.75 hours in line and missed the whole first period, but I think it was worth it. I emailed Puck Daddy and got a “Pass” for wearing an NHL jersey to a CHL game.

I remember telling my boss I needed to take time off from work because, as a partial plan subscriber (back when I could afford that), I was invited to take my picture w/the Cup (in 2000), but it was during work. She just laughed and told me to make sure I didn’t schedule any client meetings that day.

I left work early in 2003 to get to do the photo-with-the-Cup thing as a STH. I was an hourly temp with no paid time off, and I’d just started in that job. I made it very clear to my new bosses that there were priorities in my life, and the Cup came before them. I don’t understand why they kept me on. :P

I remember thinking I was just about at the end of my rope with standing in line when I finally got close enough to see a glimpse of it and in an instant every little annoyance of standing in a dank arena for hours on a school night went away.

At the time, I was supposed to have 3 people reporting to me and I think I had 1, and my work hours were 8am to 11pm – I pretty much left the office to sleep, for my birthday dinner with my parents and to go to the playoffs. So, when I told her I wanted to go, she knew I meant it.

Yep. I know Cam had a shift that made him look like a real NHL player tonight (two quality shots, a good hit on Ference), but that’s no reason to play him when the team is down by 2 late in the 3rd. But DeBoer always does this. When they are down by 2 with about 7-8 minutes left, he’s still rolling 4 lines.

Cam had a shift that made him look like a real NHL player tonight

What I loved about that shift was that it was SO remarkable that Chico was able to confidently declare it his best shift of the season. I feel like when you can say something like that, with that kind of assurance, it’s speaking volumes about the quality of the rest of his shifts.
