A Perfunctory New Post

Well, it seems we’re going to be left hoping for the Panthers to suffer some sort of colossal self-inflicted collapse if we want the Devils to extend their playoff run, because our beloved boys in rouge, blanc, et noir appear to be midway through their annual perfunctory postseason fizzle. (We should be happy last year’s miracle second half fell just a hair short, so we can all remember the crazy regular-season run fondly, instead of being stuck with further memories of yet another one-and-done playoff appearance.) So here’s a going-through-the-motions new open thread for all of us to share in the misery of watching a team going through the motions of losing more games to Scott Clemmensen.

Yeah, Clemmer appearing on screen was my cue to step into the kitchen to tend to dinner. ::shudder:: (Although who am I kidding? Devils in the playoffs should have been enough to make me walk away from the TV.)

The disparity between regular-season PK and playoff PK this year is all the proof I need that the Devils just shut down as soon as they got to Game 82. That said, I love Dano’s report from the sidelines there about the Devils finally killing off a penalty, where it sounds like he’s all, “Problem solved, guys! Everything’s GREAT now!” Suuuuuuuuuure it is, Dano. It’s that kind of thinking that allows you to be shocked — SHOCKED — at the outcome of Game 3.

So, is this karmic payback for Clemmer announcing to the world today that he can beat any goalie in the NHL? I’m imagining goalies who aren’t playing tonight helping to will the pucks into the net behind Clemmer for NJ (except for Prawn, since we know he detests Marty).

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to yesterday’s game, good to see justice finally come to Clemmer! I would like to see yesterday’s game two more times.
But since we need something to complain about here, I’ll dredge up a controversy and ask what do you all think of Brodeur’s questioning of his being yanked in Game 3? I think it was absolutely the right move and it really pisses me off that he would question it publicly. It’s this kind of being bigger than the team entitlement mentality that I was just complaining about a couple of days ago that has helped drive the Devils to mediocrity the last 5 plus years. I honestly don’t think he has what it takes to make a full playoff run anymore and that Hedberg should get an occasional start. If he wants to prove me wrong and actually play well this postseason, I could listen to his point of view though.

Mike, Marty’s still an ass (an ass with 3 Cups, 4 Vezinas, and pretty much every goaltending record known to mankind, but, right now, an ass). I am still happier that they beat Clemmer like a rented mule in the 3rd than I am about anything else, and I don’t really care that it was Marty rather than Moose in net for the win.

I completely agree and realize I neglected to mention Clemmer’s even more idiotic and vain comments before the game. His comeuppance was awesome last night, I can only hope he starts again tomorrow but I can’t see it happening.

That game was a delight! I had predicted 3-2 Panther, with a Devils 3rd period meltdown, but I’ll take that game instead!

What’s really funny is that at Game 3, the PA guy kept begging us to cheer like crazy during the PP and PK…after they blew the lead. He’s like “FANS…YOU can get an assist on the powerplay goal!” It was so odd and kind of embarrassingly pathetic!

Did anyone else notice that the Devils’ goal horn sounded different in Game 3, like the one they had at the Meadowlands? I don’t remember if it sounded different last night too. Maybe I’m just being senile…

They brought in the CAA goal horn for Game 3. Jettisoned it for Game 4 after the Game 3 debacle.

PamCar…I’ve heard complaints about the new PA guy for the Devils from other people as well…NJ should know their fans by now and cut out that stuff.

I agree 10,000%. I know that’s supposedly mathematically impossible, but that’s how much I agree. I thought it was obvious in Game 2 that Marty should have come out after the second Panthers goal instead of waiting for the third, so he should just shut the fuck up. (I don’t read much Devils coverage anymore, so I hadn’t heard that he’d been bitching about it.) What gets me is that playing more in a tandem has made both Hedberg and Marty better, and it just doesn’t seem like there’s any hope of a long playoff run if it’s just Marty Marty Marty. But as we all know, that’s the only way things will happen until he’s retired, so I don’t know why I’m wasting all this typing about it.

That is HILARIOUS about the PA announcer. Hilarious, and pathetic and sad. What a shame to think there’s a whole new generation of Devils fans who might think that’s normal.

And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! for Henrique! Not at all a surprise, but still, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

WHAT?! I guess she didn’t like Nigel dissing her efforts to make “booty tooch” happen. And Mr. Jay’s photoshoots have been awful the last few seasons. I hope they bring in that foxy Italian photographer to replace him. Heh.
