I know TG reported he was going back to LW, but I don’t have the sound on, and can never figure out who’s skating where, so I’m not the one to ask. (I’ve been watching this sport my entire adult life and I’m still like, “Guys all skating around in a jumble! I have no idea what’s going on!” I’m an idiot.)

Man, I am SO glad to hear that I’m not exceptionally obtuse about this. I don’t think any of my perception of this is helped by the fact that the Devils always have C’s move to the wing and wingers move to C, and that all our wingers seem to be puck-possession guys anyway–

I didn’t see it, but it’s my understanding that he was also cross-checked by McDonough and at least roughed him in retaliation (from the tweets I’ve seen), and in that case they weren’t going to give McD 5 for fighting and Henrique 2 for roughing. They could have given McD 5 and 2 for the fight and the cross-check, though. And just 5 for Henrique.

Well, Rupp will fight…Avery won’t. But then again, Avery just made an ass out himself and riled people up, he usually didn’t actually try and injure people. If anything, he’d pretend he would fight and then refuse to do so, leaving the other guy to get the 5 minute major.

Report from the Rock: I felt guilty about missing last game – I blame myself for the loss. But the crowd was good again – appropriately apoplectic about Rupp. The big story from today though was the train ride up from DC. I grabbed the 4:00 Acela – sit down at a table with my laptop and look up to see a man in a suit , and circle beard who looks very very familiar. Turns out it’s this guy. I’m sitting there, wearing a filthy Brodeur jersey (can’t wait for the playoffs to be over so I can wash it), with a hideous and patchy playoff beard, and trying hard not to stare and also trying to think of something I could conceivably say to him when I realize that I have no idea how to say his last name. So instead I just sit and sneak glances. I caught him staring at me – I imagine him thinking “Damnit! A hockey fan in DC and he doesn’t support the Caps! Drat and double drat!” Leonsis gets off in Philly, passing me on the way to the exit. As he does, he taps me on the shoulder and says, “Good luck tonight, man.”

I ended up so early to the Rock that I spied Vanderbeek hanging out in the Ice Bar as I was walking around filling up on the all-you-can-eat-because-you-already-paid-for-it-food. I considered telling him I ran into Leonsis, and maybe he should check in to see if he’s trying to trade someone to Philly, but let it go. Anyway, the point is: today’s game was double-blessed by NHL owners.

Anyway, I’m sort of surprised that Ted takes the Acela and not, like, a private jet or something.

If he’s going to downtown Philly from downtown DC, Acela is probably faster than a private plane, or at least more convenient, because he doesn’t have to go out to the airport to leave and then go into downtown Philly from the airport there. Depends on whether he is OK dealing w/the public.
