BTW, Ranger fans have decided that one of the reasons NJ hasn’t market Marty is that people don’t like him. Not that NJ doesn’t market anyone…but that he’s not liked. Now, we make fun of Marty, but he’s always been liked by his teammates, NJ management and by the media. It’s almost unfair the way he comes out unscathed in the media (except, of course, the way they decided to remind him of one OT loss 18 years ago for years). I know Prawn doesn’t like him, but I don’t see that as a failure on Marty’s part.

And I love that Rangers fans just don’t know how to cope with Marty. It’s like they just can’t deal at all with the fact that someone like him has chosen to not only play his entire career with NJ, but has thrived there and loved it. Their little tiny Rangers-fan brains just explode when they have to think about it.

And for the record, Grace and I both loathed the “Love You Forever” book. Someone had given her a copy, we read it once and never touched it again. But it was’t the ending that bothered her, young Grace found the boy throwing the watch in the toilet way too disturbing. Heh.

Hey all, I’ve been taking a break from hockey in general but the Devils keep trying to suck me back in.

Plus I’ve become one of those old people who has nothing to talk about but her medical aliments. Back problems (protruding disc/pinched nerve), diabetes, high cholesterol/blood pressure, menopause, you name it. I’m a joy to be around these days.

Don’t forget, Zach talked him into letting the team stay at their homes before home games! Lou really is going soft. If they’d fallen behind 3-0 in 2003, he would have locked them in the brig at Ft. Dix.

Game 5 after action:

Saw a lot more Kings jersey’s at this game. Most of the evening was spent chewing on the towel they gave out at the door and then trying not to throw up. What’s been most weird about the Finals for me is that Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly keeps hanging out in the Ice Bar above my father’s seats. He always seems to be miserable too. His smiles are, at best, wry.

Matthew Perry got roundly booed when they put him up on the Jumbotron.

Going into the game I was pretty much trying to find really really small positives: at least I’ll get to see the Cup in person again… at least I’ll finally be able to shave this hideous playoff beard without guilt… at least I’ll be able to stand applaud the team as they wave to the fans…

Now… now… I don’t think I’m prepared to be fully invested in Monday night’s game. We should be dead already – I feel like the moment I start believing in the team again, THAT’S when they’ll put up a stinker and break my heart. It’s as if the team is just lying in wait, like some damned Portia spider, luring me in with one and two goal victories and the fantastic vibe of defying history and probability. But I almost can’t help it… the power of the ‘stache compels me.

It’s horrible, but also wonderful, and, most of all, mustachioed.

Meanwhile, thanks for the report from the game. I bet Daly would smile more if he was at Madison Square Garden, that bastard. I’m impressed you survived this game tonight in person — that was very thoughtful of the Devils to give you something chew on while they somehow managed to successfully execute a period-long prevent defense for the first time all season.

This game capped off an excellent day long Boise Beerfest for me. I didn’t really believe the score until I checked it the next day as I was certainly drunk enough to have imagined the whole thing.
