So, is this the point where all of our “tra la la, we’re so happy the Devils just managed to get this far!” gives way to heartbreak?

So, is this the point where all of our “tra la la, we’re so happy the Devils just managed to get this far!” gives way to heartbreak?
Yah, probably. Although, with our luck, they’ll win, and lose at home and make me watch another team hoist the cup on our ice.
I hadn’t considered that angle, Gunner. That would… I’m not sure there are words for how much that would suck.
What, is Quick having a chat w/his goalposts? Does he think he’s Patty Roy?
Volchenkov’s fired.
They’re all fired except Mustache Man and his sidekick Hank “Who Knew That Guy Was Lucky?” Talinder.
So, Henrique took one in the nuts in Game 6 against the Rangers and Clarkson took one in the nuts tonight. Ouch….
This is sports, Sue, I believe the technical term is “midsection”. ::snicker snicker::
Oh, well, here comes at least a double-minor. Who am I firing?
Bernier’s fired.
…we’re boned.
I’ve been making myself busy canning cherries. Doesn’t sound like I’ve missed anything exciting. ::gnaws on non-existent bloody stumps::
I don’t blame the refs on that one. Bernier should have known better. He should have gotten that for stupidity. Is Clarkson infecting his team mates with something other than the inability to stay upright?
Well, it was fun while it lasted! Looks like you won’t have to worry about G7, Gunner.
For once I fire someone, and they leave. Oh, and bleh.
Fuck. Well, that’s it. They aren’t coming back froim 2-0. It’s been a nice season, guys.
This is the way the world ends: This is the way the world ends: This is the way the world ends: Not with a bang but a whimper.
It’s been an AMAZING season. I mean, seriously, they made this series respectable, even with getting blown out tonight on a major penalty!
I hope Bernier apologizes to the rest of the team, not that it wil mean much.
Aw, man. Well, I agree with Pookie, unsurprisingly. It’s been a great season, and a pleasure to share it with you guys!
Well, I guess it’s a bang in LA.
This hurts a lot guys
Yeah, 40′sGuy, it’s kind of surprising how much it hurts. Why’d they have to go and do a stupid thing like win Game 5???
Do we have to keep watching?
They really ought to pull Marty, this is now just a rout. Might as well let Hedberg finish up.
We’re certainly not watching anymore. Summer viewing commences tonight!
The linesman will get an assist for that, right? he definitely put in the sacrifice to help his favorite team score on that play
I’m being unnecessarily bitter, sorry everyone!
No, no — bitterness is definitely welcome. That was the play that really made us hurry up and turn on a DVD. Life’s too short, man. Heh.
I watched ’til the bitter end in 2001 and in hindsight, really wish I didn’t, so it’s “Law & Order” for me. (That’s right, “Law & Order”. I’ve never seen it before! It’s like a whole new world out there! Or something.)
Okay cool, I was hoping that I wouldn’t be the only one who has lost interest in watching more NJ penalty killing… and unknowledgeable bandwagon Kings fans being rewarded by the performance of a bunch of ex-Flyers. It’s just not my thing, I guess…
40′sGuy, you’re definitely not alone. I give you my blessing to find something else to be watching, so you don’t have to remember this season this way. Heh.
The kid scored. 1:31 to go in the second. 4-1 Kings.
I think the “bunch of ex-Flyers” thing is unfair. Most teams don’t somehow win with all homegrown players now. Hey, if NJ had won, we would have done it with a defense where only two of the guys playing tonight (I’m not counting Larsson, he’s a scratch) were actually signed by NJ out of college or juniors. All the rest of them came from somewhere else. That’s what happens these days. I realize you are disappointed but you have to be realistic.
The bunch of ex-Flyers thing also reminds me that either way it went, it was going to kill Flyer fans.
Oh, and good for Henrique!
Henrique is clutch! Only four more to go!
either way it went, it was going to kill Flyer fans.
There is definitely a positive to take away here either way. :D
I didn’t mean to regard the entire Kings organization as “ex-Flyers”, I was only referencing the fact that L.A. does have 4 highly-skilled offensive players from Philly, 3 of whom played with one another personally in Philadelphia, which isn’t exactly common.
Unless things change, I’m punching out at five minutes to go.
It may not be common, but it’s not like LA broke any rules in acquiring them. The Flyers were more than happy to get rid of 2 of them (Richards/Carter) and they didn’t even trade them both to LA, originally. Gagne has had a series of injuries over the last several years and this is his second team after Philly. Williams played for the ‘Canes for over 4 years before he was traded to LA and he’s been there for several years. If LA has been able to acquire all of them over time (and it has been over time) and make it work, that’s their business.
It may not be common, but it’s not like LA broke any rules in acquiring them.
Yeah but is now any time to be reasonable about the opponent? :D
I feel as though I made the right choice to not watch at all tonight. It really stinks.
Yeah but is now any time to be reasonable about the opponent? :D
Bah. I’m more pissed off at Bernier than I am at LA – ex-Flyers or not. That was just incredibly dumb.
I hate them so much….I accepted defeat after Game 2 (yes, Game 2). Then they go and lose Game 3 and I barely flinched. Then those jerks win Game 4 and it’s “oh they’re delaying the inevitable.” Then they win Game 5 and make me believe. So now I’m back on board, and this. UGH
My god this game is crawling now. It’s lie they don’t want me to leave.
It certainly IS their business, and by no means did I imply that any of their past acquisitions were in violation of any rules. I was merely stating my heightened dissatisfaction with those particular players and highlighting the fact that they happened to be teammates on the Flyers fairly recently, which I found odd. Not to mention that the Kings General Manager is a former Flyers scout. All of that aside, I was just trying to express my disdain for the Kings. They’re a team I never expected to despise, but I’m grateful for the circumstances that made it possible
I guess 5 wasn’t enough for the Kings huh?
Cross-posted on the original thread:
I didn’t get a chance to look back at the boards for a while :( and then they kept winning…so got all superstitious and decided that as long as I stayed away from IPB, they would keep it going strong. It worked…until the finals. Shoulda come back during Game 1.
Poo.
Pics to come…if only in a futile attempt to cheer everyone up with the sheer ridiculous-ness of my hat.
They’re a team I never expected to despise, but I’m grateful for the circumstances that made it possible
That’s the spirit!
Nell, I’ve been wondering about your hat — can’t wait to see pictures!
See:

It cheered me up a little.
Great season, y’all!
I started hitting fast forward after the second goal and just kept going until the end of the game as it was a disaster. Bernier should definitely be fired, and yet I must temper my anger with the fact that the fourth line was a huge reason they got to the finals at all.
I can only hope I’ve seen Brodeur’s final game as a Devil but I’m sure I won’t be that lucky, why he was left in so long is beyond me. I think pulling him could have provided a spark but leaving him in basically waved the white flag. So I am finally getting my bitterness at Brodeur in after keeping it inside this whole round, now I feel a little better. My offseason to do list if I was Lou is don’t resign Marty, sign Zach, and release/trade Bernier, who I do think is the most expendable out of the 4th line.
Nell, that hat is fantastic!!
Bernier should definitely be fired, and yet I must temper my anger with the fact that the fourth line was a huge reason they got to the finals at all.
The fourth line giveth, the fourth line taketh away.
I may have to fire Lou. NJ is holding onto this year’s 1st round draft choice and not using it to satisfy the last of the Kovy contract penalties? I know Lou says they expect to win every year, but Holy Larsson, it’s #29. Unless he’s got someone who will take Janssen/Boulton plus the pick for a real player….
Sue you are 100% right, Lou is an idiot for not paying the draft pick. The good news is this must mean that Lou expects to win the Cup the next three years which obviously means Marty is on his way out. Obviously!
