Don’t worry about it. When Marty’s a sieve or when Clarkson’s, well, Clarkson, you’ll have something else to watch. Can McCoy prosecute Clarson for stupidity?
I should be more excited about the fact that they are going to play, but I had accepted the fact that there wasn’t going to be a season and I have all these books lined up to read. I’m sure when the games actually start I’ll be more into it.
Can McCoy prosecute Clarson for stupidity?
It’ll be McCoy’s easiest case ever!
I’m also not that excited. I liked the last lock-out better — coming off a normal off-season made it a little easier to be raring to go. This time it’s like, “Ugh, but I’d just gotten into the rhythm of having my life revolve around something other than the NHL schedule!” I’m certainly not going to be one of those people who refuses to watch, but I’m definitely annoyed at both sides enough that I’m feeling very “meh”.
Yeah, I can’t say I’m jumping for joy either. I’m just getting to really enjoy life without hockey. Oh well. Like Pookie said, we’re hardly going to be those people staying away on principle, but… we might end up being those people who take a long time to warm back up to the idea of an active NHL.
I’m just glad we’ll find out what’s going to happen to Luongo now. The suspense was killing me.
Also, when my friend told me she was tired of, “hearing about the billionaires VS. the millionaires” I have to agree. Blech. I’m tired of the money talk. Please just play and punch each other now. Thanks!
Please just play and punch each other now.
The playing and punching is definitely going to be better than following the stupid business news. I can’t say I was hanging on every word of all the lockout reports, but I was paying enough attention to know that the details of CBA negotiation are things that are utterly, mind-numbingly stupid and useless to the kind of fan I am.
And Luongo! I’d forgotten all about that guy!
Excellent, my plan of causing a lockout to anger everyone against hockey so nobody will want to play a fantasy hockey league this year and thereby extending the championship reign of the Elias Sports Bureau to two years has worked to perfection! I must confess it was rather easy to talk both sides into it.
Mike, you’re a diabolical GENIUS! I can’t believe we all fell for it.
The kid would also like to think Mike for his diabolical plan. The center ice and ticket budget along with more has gone into goodies for the music bag. Sorry NHL but the band geekness force is too strong in this one.
Yes, I’m afraid band has almost completely supplanted hockey. But hey, the Kid qualified for State with her flute solo last year as a Freshman and won 3rd at All-State on piccolo this year.
So….Hockey, what have you done for me lately????
(The Kid got a piccolo and an upgraded flute for her efforts, thus causing us to broke, but very proud.)
But hey, the Kid qualified for State with her flute solo last year as a Freshman and won 3rd at All-State on piccolo this year.
Wow. Congratulations!
My hockey viewing time was replaced with NCIS reruns. It’s going to be hard to trade Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly for Crunchy and the rest of the Scooby gang.
Mike, you’re a genius! A mad, mad genius!
Congratulations to the Kid, who is a mad, mad piccolo genius, apparently. :D
Amy, I’m already kinda dreading trading in the Law & Order crew for the Devils. I was really, really banking on getting through all twenty seasons before the lockout ended. Can we all ratify an agreement that both sides just go away until September?!
Wow! Congratulations to The Kid (and, of course, her proud parents) for being such a superstar! Band geeking sounds like it’s way more fun than hockey.
Ooooh, Amy, thanks for reminding me that NCIS should go on our list of shows we’ll probably thoroughly enjoy once L&O is over for us! (I am, needless to say, very grudgingly dragging my feet on the prospect of getting excited to go back to watching the Devils. Especially if all these rumors of Kovalchuk not coming back turn out to be true.)
Kovalchuk will be back in all his turn-the-puck-over-at-the-blue-line-when-he’s-playing-point-on-the-power-play-which-I-still-say-he-shouldn’t-be-doing glory, have no fear, there’s too much money and trouble for him to risk not coming back.
And congratulations to The Kid, I wish I would have tried harder in high school to do something constructive.
OK, hockey really is back. How can I tell? It’s not that the owners have ratified the CBA…no, nothing like that.
No, it’s that the Flyers are sniffing after yet another goalie. Yes, they are running after Luongo.
Hmmm…someone get me some popcorn. The circus is back in town!!!!!
Oh, and not that I blame the Leafs for firing Burke…but they couldn’t have done it a year and a half ago before he testified as an NHL GM against Kovy’s contract?
After all, they should fire him when it’s most convenient for us…not them.
Kovalchuk will be back in all his turn-the-puck-over-at-the-blue-line-when-he’s-playing-point-on-the-power-play-which-I-still-say-he-shouldn’t-be-doing glory
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Well, when you put it that way, how could I not be excited for this season??
…but they couldn’t have done it a year and a half ago before he testified as an NHL GM against Kovy’s contract?
Man, the Leafs REALLY suck!
Man, the Leafs REALLY suck!
AGREED! :)
And Marc Bergevin basically just stuffed Gomer into a giant cannon and shot him to the moon. I like that new GM already!
My official response is that I was really enjoying not having to face Rick Nash as a Ranger. Ick.
Beyond that, I’ve moved to the west coast (Portland) and while I’m still not local to a team I’m thrilled the games won’t be on so late. I’m really loving Pacific Time for sports.
Seattle is supposed to get a team in the next couple of years for us northwesterners to root for (because rooting for the Canucks is obviously out of the question :) )
Because the NHLPA complained that the Rangers couldn’t send Redden home w/pay when he was healthy enough to play, both he and Gomez will be bought out now, and become UFAs, instead of waiting until next summer. But, their cap hits will stay on NY’s and Montreal’s caps, no matter what happens.
OK, someone make sure Lou is unable to use his hands. He cannot sign anything while Gomez is still available. You know how irresistible he finds any kind of former Devil, whether its a player or coach. About the only one he has been able to resist is Butthead, and, well, that just goes to show you the evil that is Butthead.
My official response is that I was really enjoying not having to face Rick Nash as a Ranger. Ick.
Ugh, I’d forgotten about that. Here’s hoping he’s as big a bust as all their other big-name acquisitions. (And I hope Portland’s treating you well! Mike In Idaho is right, though, that no amount of geographical proximity makes the Canucks worth cheering for.)
OK, someone make sure Lou is unable to use his hands. He cannot sign anything while Gomez is still available. You know how irresistible he finds any kind of former Devil, whether its a player or coach.
I have been UTTERLY CONVINCED since the first news that the lockout was ending that we’re getting Gomez back. I mean, come on. There’s NO WAY that doesn’t happen. None. ::shoots self::
Acorns can buy a LOT of acorns with that shiny new contract!
I know, Alix! I’m so happy for him! It’s raining acorns!!
He’ll be able to create his own currency – golden acorns.
The more I think about this season, the more I like it.
First, it looks like Gomer is gonna be someone else’s problem very soon. (Note: if he’s paid around 1million, I don’t think he’d be a huge problem to have. But still…)
And then, sure, the habs are gonna suck, but they’ll just suck for 48 games! And we still are gonna get a nice draft pick for that. It’s like a bargain draft pick: you only have to suffer through 48 games to be rewarded this season!
And finally, we don’t run the risk to get a stanley cup with an asterisk on it because of the short season, like the 1995 cup. Err, wait, no, that’s totally not what I meant. It really was a legit cup. Ahem. La di la di laa, see you later! *runs away*
He’ll be able to create his own currency – golden acorns.
:^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
You know, Grrrreg, I was all, “Ha ha ha! What an amusing comment!” until I got to that last bit. Why I oughtta…! (I was grousing to Pookie the other day that this season BLOWS because I can’t deride whoever ends up with the Cup because of the ’95 precedent. So in the likely event that someone I hate wins it [Rangers? ::shudder::], I can’t be all, “Yeah but it’s only half a Cup, you losers!!!” Also, we don’t get to keep our first-rounder this year, so when we end up sucking for 48 loooooooooong games, it’s with no reward at the end. Also, probably with Scott Gomez. Yay. :P)
Schnookie, you reminded me about the draft pick fiasco, I cannot for the life of me imagine why Lou didn’t give up this year’s first round pick. And why he’s not signing Sykora. When he resigns Gomez, I may even tap my foot a few times to show my extreme displeasure. I hope everyone still boos him at home.
I plan to approach the inevitable re-signing of Go-Homez with the “Green Eggs & Ham” strategy: “I will not like him if he assists, I will not like him if (yeah, right) he scores. I will not like him even if he (practically impossible) pretends to say all the right things. I will not like him, Chico, I say. I will booo!!!!!!”
Oh, and we have a shiny new Captain…it’s the Iron Boar era. Maybe he’ll kick the crap out of Go-Homez. I was very, very happy for Bryce until I realized it’s now his job to try and lead, well, the Devils. Poor guy.
When he resigns Gomez, I may even tap my foot a few times to show my extreme displeasure.
:^:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Yeah, none of us can really stay mad at Lou, can we? (But I’m staying at least mostly miffed about him keeping the stupid 29th overall pick. Lou, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but we’re not getting a lower pick than that this year. It’s… not happening. ::headdesk::)
Sue, I’m so excited for the Iron Boar Era! His little iron hoof marks will be all over the franchise now. Assuming he’s not out for the whole season with a concussion or anything… (And :^::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: to the Green Eggs & Ham.)
(But I’m staying at least mostly miffed about him keeping the stupid 29th overall pick. Lou, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but we’re not getting a lower pick than that this year. It’s… not happening. ::headdesk::)
Wait…that means you are predicting that NJ will at least make it back to the Cup Finals this season. Wow…I’m not nearly that hopeful. My only (faint) hope is that they can somehow screw up the Rangers’ playoff run again. Line up the sacrificial virgins so Henrique will keep crushing Lundqvists’ dreams!!!!
So how many people think picking the Iron Boar as captain was De Boer’s genius plan to not ruffle either Elias’ or Kovy’s feathers? Or maybe he just wanted to pick someone that sounded like his own name?
Mike, I’m not sure about De Boer’s strategy re: The Iron Boar, but I am getting really annoyed that Lou’s continued fascination for Cam Janssen is leading them to sacrifice offense. They are waiving Bulter and haven’t yet signed Darche, but they have two goons on the roster. Hell, we know you can’t stop Clarkson from punching people (if he can stay upright). Isn’t that enough?
Butler being waived is causing my faith in Lou to waver a bit, I thought he was supposed to provide some offense that the Devils will sorely need. I hope he is about to do a trade because even bringing Gomez back is not going to fill the offensive holes in this team, although it has the side benefit of making us all angry which you know Lou secretly loves to do.
Speaking of Gomez, I am now annoyed at the lockout ending because I have tickets to this weekend’s ECHL games against Alaska in which I was hoping to boo Gomez some more. Guy can’t do anything right.
Lou’s continued fascination for Cam Janssen is leading them to sacrifice offense. They are waiving Bulter and haven’t yet signed Darche, but they have two goons on the roster.
I enjoyed Darche as a hab, but frankly, I hope you were not counting too much on him to provide offense… He seems to be a decent person, and I actually liked having him on the habs because I liked his attitude. He seemed genuinely aware of how lucky he was to have had the opportunity to play in the nhl relatively late in his career, and so he always looked like he wasn’t taking it for granted, which was quite refreshing. If it doesn’t work with the devils, I hope he gets a job somewhere else.
Now I realize that the only good stuff I said about him are about his attitude and perceived personality. Maybe that says something about the player, unfortunately! :P
Grrrreg, apparently you haven’t seen Janssen’s stats. Some enforcers can actually play, as well as punch. He’s not one of them. He doesn’t even punch much anymore.
I think we can all breathe a sigh a relief. Gomez is now a Shark, Lou resisted temptation. Apparently it’s Larry Robinson’s doing, so he gets to try and babysit Gomer. Best of luck to Larry with that job…notice I’m not wishing Gomez luck.
