We are excited to announce a new feature here at IPB: 3-2-1/1-2-3 Hockey! It’s not a new defensive scheme about to be sicced upon the hockey world by Jacques Lemaire, and it’s not the latest fancy “Torpedo” coming out of Sweden. No, it’s our countdown/countup to the start of the season. As of today there are less than two months before blessed hockey is restored upon us, a mere 60 days until joy returns to IPBville! We considered several methods for marking these 60 days — shouting from the rooftops every morning, installing a garish Blingybob count-down on the sidebar, tearing petals one-at-a-time off flowers while repeating “we hate Jacques, we love Jacques not” — but none of them seemed quite right. We cast about for some sort of time-tracking device and discovered one has been right underneath our noses all along! Well, all along as of August 23rd, 2008.
You see, Gentle Reader, last August we embarked on an adventure called “Project 365”, in which we (and 10,707 people on Flickr) take a photograph every day. The project is meant to be a record of the year but also a tool for improving photography skills — in short, a fun, ongoing creative challenge. A lot like IPB itself, but with fewer words and less Scott Clemmensen. Anyway, a few weeks ago we realized we’d entered the home stretch. Our first 365 is almost over, and it’s pretty much all we can think about. So we’re going to be using our last 21 pictures for this year as the countdown to August 23 here on IPB, and then we’ll use our first 39 of Project 365: II as the countup to October 1. No, most of the pictures won’t be about hockey, but the fact is that there’s nothing happening in the hockey world (Hudler’s KHL contract? Yawn. The Coyotes are moving? Let us know when they’re actually setting up shop somewhere new. Dany Heatley wants out of Ottawa? Potentially veeery interesting, but no one’s dishing the dirt, so… meh), and as far as we’re concerned, a lot is happening in the Project 365 world. So without any further ado, here’s the first installment of 3-2-1/1-2-3 Hockey:
3-2-1 Hockey: 20
It rained so hard this afternoon that the force of the raindrops created a layer of mist over the garage roof.
